Steelers re-signed LB Arthur Moats.
Moats, 27, can play both outside and inside linebacker. He spent 2014 on the outside, earning high marks from PFF for both his run and pass defense. He chipped in four sacks and two forced fumbles. Also a special teams contributor, Moats will try to earn back a place in Pittsburgh's linebacker rotation.

Some good news

YES!
move i was hoping for

Good. Now lets get a starter signed for OLB. Doesn't look like too many left though.

now bring back Harrison

Good news, and looks like a good contract.

I think we just did

That's what I'm afraid of, we just did. I think Arthur is fine to spot start and for quality depth but for any every game starter, not at all. I hope we have a plan here but the way these edge rushers seem to be getting sucked up, not much left. If they think they're going to sit around on their hands and let these guys see what the market dictates, then there won't be anyone left and that included Worilds. We'll end up having to sign a guy like Sheard.

Good price for sure, but I'm not sure if Moats is the long term answer at OLB.

I agree...and hope we can come up with better options ..but the window is closing..I have read even Sheard has 3-4 ( 3 to 4 )teams looking his way and we aren't on that list

We will pay Moats less in the next three years than we paid Worilds for last year. I hope they take Colberts tagging rights away because he should not be allowed to ever tag another player again.

I think this means as of right now JJ and Moats at OLB and probably a 1-4 round pick competing with them.

And hopefully Harrison.

Good signing. He played well when in games and still has upside.

Good. Now maybe they can work on extending Ben's contract.

The problem is if you start chasing after these guys that other teams are also interested in, they will have to way over pay for them. I don't think we have gotten a glance of what Moats can do as a full time OLB starter, because he never has been in the NFL as he spent most of his career at ILB. In his limited snaps he was very good, who's to say he won't be just as good a starter as these FA's? The market dictates price no matter whether your pro active or not, and teams are throwing money at guys especially as the pool gets thinner. Would you want to give 5 yrs 40 mil to McPhee? In fact Sheard is an unknown and hasn't been the most productive player to this point, so money is incredibly important no matter what the need is. I do understand our needs, but we can't just go all Dan Snyder and throw money at needs hoping that fixes the issue, with our cap we have to be smart and when you look at the contracts being given out at our positions of need, I don't see how we could have afforded these guys anyways.

Harrison won't play anywhere but Pitt and the only reason he will play is for a chance at another Super Bowl.
I think he knows our offense is good enough to contend and knows his help on defense might make the defense
good enough.

Well stated ianv2012. I think this is a good move and Moats has shown he has the capacity to be an effective OLB.

Moats wasn't really signed to be a starter. OLB will be addressed in FA or the draft which is deep at the OLB position where a player like Dupree should be available.

I'm thinking they plan on making their move in the draft then but to get one of these premier edge rushers they would have to move up from 22 and they just cannot afford to give away picks. I don't know what OLB'ers would be there at 22 though.

I sure hope they don't trade any of next years picks as they are likely to be lots better than this years picks, might be best in a decade. The only time I would trade away future picks would be if we were likely to be in a championship game or higher. The way the team looks now we could get lucky weird things happen but i would not say it was likely with the condition of the defense and the points scored by our offense on a game by game basis.
