Keenan Lewis trade idea...yes, I may get laughed at

We're 12m under right now, still have other moves to make, restructures and extensions. We're not that bad off.

You'd be pretty happy to leave a place that never even offered you a contract. I know I've read this AT LEAST ten times from Vader alone, and another dozen or so times from other people. Along with plenty of resources to back it up... but maybe some people have trouble reading.

LEWIS WAS NOT OFFERED A CONTRACT FROM THE PITTSBURGH STEELERS!

that is why he left.

Insanti,

What an athlete says and does when the money are up can be different. Circumstances change. Maybe Lewis would come back. Harrison was pissed at us and left for to play at Cincinnati. He came back.

Lewis said he wanted to return, they never offered a contract so when NO DID offer a contract, he took it. Pittsburgh was his first choice. I don't why this is so hard for people to understand. The coaching staff and FO didn't want Lewis, had nothing to do with NO.

If he was happy here why was he yelling at a coach. He can SAY he wanted to return, but that and a $4 will get you a small coffee at Starbucks.

Why is this post so confusing to people, I never addressed the idea of him coming back. This is all about WHEN HE LEFT. It's no wonder people can't grasp things around here, I'm beginning to think they can't read.

What does his situation NOW have to do with his situation when he left Pittsburgh?

I didn't even talk about the trade proposal in the OP, I merely addressed the wrong assertion that Lewis didn't want to be here to begin with...the one that gets brought up every single time Lewis name pops up on the board.

While I don't think the assertion he didn't want to be here is wrong, it is, indeed, speculation.

However, at the time he left, he had played for four years and had, I think, 1 interception. His last year he had 29 PD's (something like that) and, finally, played 16 games. We already had a CB that could cover and not catch over the prior several years. I think the FO wanted to find defensive players that could create turnovers and Lewis, at the time, didn't seem to be doing it. At the time, Cortez Allen looked to be that player. Allen regressed, considerably, last year, though.

and you quoted me to post this why?

I thought I was addressing your point about the point in time when he left rather than the OP's trade idea?

I know why he left, and why the FO didn't offer him a contract.

Allen and Lewis was suppose to be the **** in the burgh for years to come but just didn't happen. It set the defense back for sure losing Lewis. Look at the defense they planned on: heyward, ta'amu, hood on the d line. worilds, spence, Timmons, Woodley at linebacker. Allen and Lewis at corner, Troy and Thomas at safety. Interesting how things turned out.

On top of everything else, just heard from #Saints CB Keenan Lewis, says he wants team to guarantee final three years of deal or let him go.

He's a chronic malcontent. Decent player, **** attitude.

it makes sense. Maybe those rumors of locker room cancer were true?

The problem is that all of us armchair GM's don't ever have all of the information.

not an unreasonable request given how inferior CBs are now commanding up to twice his AAV on his current deal.

[h=3]CB Keenan Lewis unhappy, wants Saints to guarantee contract or let him go[/h]By Mike Triplett | ESPN.com

Uneasy and unhappy with the way his veteran teammates are being shipped out of town, New Orleans Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis said he wants the Saints to guarantee the final three years of his contract or let him go.

Otherwise, Lewis told ESPN he plans to skip organized team activities and minicamp and vowed, “I will be a distraction if they can’t do that for me, period.”

Lewis, 28, has three years and $13 million remaining on the deal he signed with the Saints in 2013.

The New Orleans native insisted that he didn’t want to come across as selfish and that he isn’t asking for more money, even though he feels his deal is well below market value compared to the deals being signed by other top cornerbacks around the NFL right now.

But he said he wants more security.

“I’m not happy. The team’s being broken apart,” Lewis said, pointing to the trades of Jimmy Graham and Darren Sproles over the past two years and the releases of Pierre Thomas and Curtis Lofton over the past week. “I want to be here. But if they can’t do that for me, (I’m not sure they feel the same).”

Lewis has been a key acquisition for the Saints, emerging as a No. 1 cornerback after signing a five-year, $26.3 million deal to come from the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has six interceptions and 22 pass defensed over the past two years, but his biggest value has come in being matched up often against the opponent’s No. 1 receiver.

Lewis was arguably the most valuable player on a struggling defense last year -- though the other defensive MVP was probably Lofton, whom the team ultimately deemed expendable because he was due $7.25 million in salary and bonuses this year.

The Saints D was utter **** last year and they're in total cap hell. Of course they are going to make sweeping changes. If he pitches a fit that quickly, screw him. Who'd want a whiny baby like that on the team?

Might be 20/25 people on the Board who have been complaining about the Steelers "not offering him a contract" for the past 2 years.

Not sure I want any parts of Keenan - he seems to have that "Revis-syndrome" and wants a change when things don't go his way...

This is all about money.

Lewis is scheduled to make $2.5 million (after pocketing $12.5 million his first two seasons in New Orleans) and he figures if he makes up some bologna about "the team being ripped apart" he can get his way and get released.

If I was New Orleans, I'd say "See you at OTA's"... Even IF I wanted to release you, why now? How about August 31st? Let's see how much you get guaranteed then....

A source with knowledge of the situation tells ESPN's Jeremy Fowler the Saints "appear" to have placed every member of their roster on the trade block "but Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks."

Fowler reports the Saints want a "complete retool." Everyone "but Brees and Cooks" is obvious hyperbole, but there's no doubt New Orleans is undergoing a massive makeover, having dealt Ben Grubbs and Jimmy Graham already, while allegedly placing rising star Kenny Stills on the trade block. From ownership on down, the future of the Saints is in serious question after a 7-9 year.

He is officially on the trading block. 3 mill is what this years salary would be.

I would make damn sure he wouldn't be a malcontent. A deal with heavily laden incentives is what I would offer. That way, if they get to mid season and he throws one of his patented hissy fits and demands a trade, I would tell him that not only will he not get traded but his choices are to sit the last 8 games and lose a bunch of bonuses or shut the **** up and play if he is interested in getting his money. Only way I would consider taking him back. Dude seems like one selfish Mofo.
