Redskins' Ryan Clark announces retirement
Michael Amato Feb 18 2015, 05:01PM

Washington Redskins safety Ryan Clark is calling it a career.

Clark made the announcement on Wednesday and noted he'll retire as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The undrafted free agent carved out a 13-year career, playing eight seasons with the Steelers and capturing a Super Bowl with the team.

Clark won't be leaving the game entirely, though: he'll be working full-time as an analyst for ESPN.

Clark wore the B&G well. Thanks for putting your body on the line. GL at ESPN.

He was a good hitter. Can't do that at his age. Nice body of work from that guy.

Talk about a nice Steeler FA pick up. He and Troy worked together like a well oiled machine. He will be an excellent analyst too. He is intelligent and speaks very well.

He was an awesome FA pick up and he would challenge the Rog every chance he got. He also spoke out against all the fines Debo would get. Said something along the lines the NFL treated Debo differently because he was a pure animal, or something to that effect. He was fun to have on the team for sure.

Clark was one of the great free agent signings and loved being a part of the team. I thought his comments got to be a little too much at the end of his career, but I liked him as a player and think he has a bright future ahead on ESPN.

thanks for all the hard work and help getting that ring. Have a happy retirement

Thank you Mr. Clark for your contributions to the team. May your life's work continue to be a success...

I was at a autograph signing in Harrisburg years ago. Right after Wallace's rookie year. Clark and Wallace were signing. Before they started Clark walked around and talked and shook hands with every single person. Class act person.

He definitely was an integral part of the SB win. Best Wishes Ryan.

Super great JOB for the B & G. Have a nice rest of your career Ryan and I'll long remeber the ratburd KNOCK OUT ! !!!!!!

I'll always remember that play....first the Troy P pick 6 and then the Clark knock out on McGahee to seal it. After years and years of home AFC Championship game disappointments we finally made the hurdle!

He was a pure Steeler. I liked the way he played.

Ryan Clark was without question one of the best free agent signings we've had since James Farrior. Colbert got I right when he signed Clark. Together with Troy, they solidified the secondary for quite some time. Relentless and always bringing "the pain" to whoever had the courage to wander into his zone! It was time to hang them up after 13 great years in the league. No need to get any more concussions this late in the game, maybe Troy should consider the same?

He was one of those guys that many didn't realize what we had until he was gone

Somewhere out there, Wes Welker breathes a sigh of relief

Thanks for everything, Ryan, you'll always be a part of the Black & Gold

if anyone made it up to training camp when clark was there, he always came out and entertained the crowd. always the last guy to leave. He gave a signed shoe to my son 3 years ago. good people

I gotta give Ryan Clark props as a football player....he gave everything he had on every play he played as a Steeler. I'll never forget Ryan Clark's playing days as a Steeler he really left it all on the field....damn some of the hits he took will resonate with me forever!

Best Wishes Ryan in your new career as a broadcaster for one of the many sports networks out there doing football!

yep saw him year after year after year...... when he left I was like great the one player who always hung out is gone........

for how much other players get highly touted, this guy put the time in with fans..............

Sometimes, one doesn't kn ow what theyve got, until that what they got, is gone. Ryan was a lot like that. Him and Troy complimented each other, in a very unique way. I've always thought that it was ryan's play, that helped elevate Troy and allowed Troy to be Troy. Thanks again Mr.Clark.
