Zach Orr a Steeler?

I'm on the fence - I don't like anything that says "spine-related" injury. He would be a nice compliment to Shaz in the middle though - if he can get cleared...

I think that if he is willing to come back, he is worth signing.

Visiting Lions today.

Free agent LB Zachary Orr will visit the Lions on Thursday.

According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, as many as eight teams have reached out to Orr since he announced Wednesday morning that he's determined to play this season after suddenly retiring in January due to a neck condition. Teams will want to do extensive medical checks on Orr and clear him before signing him.

He's solid. I hope he goes anywhere besides the Ravens. I'd def take him in Pitt.

This is that acquisition the Steelers desperately need. In relations to calendar / season, you're not going to find anything better. FRONT OFFICE................let's get it done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zach Orr retired from the NFL at the age of 24 after being diagnosed with a congenital spinal condition that doctors said would end his NFL career. Now Orr said on NFLNetwork’s Good Morning Football that he is anticipating a return to the field after seeking additional opinions about his condition from other doctors. Orr has a vertebrae that wasn’t fully formed, but after receiving the positive news he seems intent on resuming his career.

Orr would have been a restricted free agent of the Baltimore Ravens, but because of the Ravens belief that he was retiring they didn’t tender an offer to Orr. Since the deadline has past to tender restricted free agents Orr will now become a free agent. Orr had developed into a budding star at inside linebacker for the Ravens. He earned second-team All-Pro honors will amassing 132 tackles, and 3 interceptions. Orr could fit perfectly into the middle of the Steelers 3-4 defense beside Ryan Shazier.

“When I first found out the news, it was definitely shocking and devastating, “Orr said. “Not only for me and my family, but pretty much everybody that kind of knew me. But just being around and doing other things, a lot of former players were telling me, ‘You might want to check it out. Because a lot of crazy things happen.’

“I had my mind made up. I was like man, the doctors told me I was done. This is a serious issue…but there’s no actual evidence or facts that I’m at a higher risk than any other player. And it’s actually been documented that a college player who had the exact same thing that I have that returned to play with no problems.”

As I’ve touched on recently on this web site the Steelers remain thin behind starters Shazier, and Vince Williams. If Orr has still been working out and is in training camp form he would almost immediately take Williams job. Even though it isn’t something Kevin Colbert may consider he should. Orr will visit the Lions on Wednesday as he begins to look for a team.

Gonna say pass unless its a 1 year incentive rich contract. High risk, high reward

We drafted Jarvis Jones with a spine problem and he was a combine reject. Orr can play.

Any rumor of interest by either party, or is everyone just wishing Tombert picks up the phone?

Eight teams contacted him. Lions and Ravens only known teams at the moment.

This is what is frustrating with the FO of the STEELERS. You and I both know we need this link to greatly improve but they seem to be slower than molasses in pursuing this. Obviously we are not in the day to day loop and maybe there is something broken with in Mr. Orr that we know nothing about but that being said, why not inquire ??

Not really. He quit cause he could become paralzed or die. Not because he is hurt.

He can become paralyzed, that's high risk. If he doesn't have any issues with his back then its probably high reward. I just wouldn't want to give him a long term contract. Too risky

I don't think anyone is saying to give him big money. Teams aren't dumb. He's gonna have to pass the individual teams evaluation with the team doctors.

Do I really trust our team doctor's to make the correct call on this guy after a certain TE was just thru here ?

This guy hasn't signed yet...interesting.

He probably hasn't been medically cleared by a team yet.
