Your Best Ever Steeler Defense

I guess you can move Ham inside with a three four because he was great at everything including pass defense. They didn’t require him to rush the passer like Watt and Harrison (and didn’t keep sack stats) because of the defense they ran and the players up front. He is considered by many the greatest outside line backer behind Taylor and that’s because Taylor rushed the passer much more albeit he was better at that than anyone.

Ham had 32 interceptions, 22 fumble recoveries. The most take a ways by anyone other than a defensive back. 6 all pro first team. All 100 year NFL first team. Considered one of the smartest players ever to diagnose plays and Andy Russel said he was the fastest player on the team for the first ten yards. I don’t care if the defense is a 3-4 or 4-3, Ham is starting on any team’s all time defense.

I was thinking that …

For me it is hard to have an all time Steelers starting D list without a Ham and a Shell. Even with the Steelers having a full pantry in comparison to many others.

No offense meant to anyone, but I always felt Ernie stautner was a little more mouth than action. I know it’s just me and my take, but he just rubbed me the wrong way for some unknown reason.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved him as a Steelers player and all, just got a negative vibe as odd as that may sound.

We brought this BERT doll so you could describe where Ernie used a little more of his mouth than actions and where he rubbed you the wrong way for whatever reason...... Let the healing begin
Steeler nation is a safe place .......

Stautner retired before I was born, never saw him, but he was first team All Pro once and 2nd team AP four times. Big Snack never was voted AP.

Both gentlemen were 6’1”, Casey weighed almost 100 lbs. more. At 6’1”, 230 lbs, Stautner would be a safety or RB in today’s NFL.

They also played at a certain weight which was required.

They would certainly take advantage of the training and nutrition of today.
Both Lambert and Ham could easily add 20-30lbs to their frames.

Well Lambert would have to eat a cow because of his naturally high metabolism, but could certainly do it.

A great portion of today's NFL OL/DL are fat as ****.

I’ll have to go back in time and re-think it. It could be I’ve got the wrong guy, stranger things have happened……………

It is a great problem to have trying to figure out the top defense. Most teams would not have 11 to chose from
Caught the tail end of the 70s and then followed closely until last few years. There may be players with better all time resumes, but I'm finding a way to have Greg Lloyd on my defense as the tone setter.

Lambert&Lloyd playing together? The other team may not even come out of the tunnel.

3-4
LDE-Greene
NT-Hampton
RDE-Cam
LOLB-Watt
ILB's Lambert and Ham
ROLB-Harrison
CB's Woodson and Blount
S's Lake and Troy

Big Snack taking up two guys, with Greene, Watt, Cam, Harrison rushing the QB would be scary.
