First of all, IMO, none of the listed players are worth 7mil+/yr.

Hell, Suggs and Dumervil out-produce most of the listed and average a bit over 5mil/yr. I know Suggs cashed in after his rookie deal to the tune of 10mil/yr BUT he had 40+ sacks in 4 years. Worilds still doesn't come close to that number in 5 years. As a team, we cannot get too much money involved in any one defensive player. History shows us what happens in this case.

I would sign Moats and Harrison and draft a OLB prospect (or 2) depending on how they feel (now) about Jarvis. If Jarvis cannot handle the job at ROLB, I move Moats over next season and play the rookie or best candidate at LOLB. No free agent is gonna be worth the money verses the production UNLESS they haven't been given the full opportunity to play like Worilds has.

For what it's worth, I ran the number of defensive snaps verses production (Tackles, Solos, Sacks, FF and FR) on all of the mentioned players plus a few more and Harrison and Moats (extrapilated to Worilds' snaps) would account for far better stats than ANY of the available talent. The only ones who are close are Mcphee and Graham.

For instance: Worilds at 978 snaps is 2.26 times Harrison's and 2.9 times Moats. based on there actual production, Harrison would have had 102 tackles, 66 solos, 12.5 sacks, while Moats would have been at 67 tackles, 49 solos, 11.5 sacks.

Graham would be at 1.96 times his actual snaps: 90 tackles, 69 solos, 11 sacks, while McPhee is 1.89, 51 tackles, 32 solos, 14 sacks

Nobody else is close. gimme Moats and Deebo and add a grown man like Odighizuwa who already has a higher number of tackles than all of the players mentioned final year in college.

You guys need to re-adjust what you believe players are "worth." NFL owners are printing money. The salary cap increased by $10 million again...in simple terms the NFL increased its revenue by half a billion dollars in one year! (if cap goes up by $320 million, that means revenues increased by ~$530 million since players get roughly 60%). That money has to be spent on players. So young pass-rushers are "worth" $8-9 million/year when they hit the open market even if they are mediocre. It's like the baseball shortstop who bats .240 earning $8 million per. It's hard for regular Joes to stomach but what's the alternative...for the owners to just by another 10 houses and yachts?

I agree with 6-7 mil/yr OLB and signing Moats for a few years. I dont think Harrison will be back. If he plays he will be in Tennessee. My prediction for OLB going into training camp is J. Jones, Moats, McPhee, Rookie 2nd or 3rd round pick, Howard Jones, and Shawn Lemon. Roosevelt Nix is listed but he's just a camp body.
 
There is not free agent OLB I want more than Silverback
 
I'm re-signed to the fact that they will all be out of range, though Graham is the name I've seen most associated with the Steelers. Not rumors, just a guy they could decide to go after. If McPhee is going to break the bank, give me Moats and Sheard and then draft an OLB in the second or third. No sense overspending on average players.
 
Yep, just because 'someone' will pay them big money doesn't mean we have to play that game (although we have been pretty good at overpaying unproven talent).

Most of the time an average+ type player gets paid by a team, they are released within the first few years of their contracts. We don't need to go there.
 
i read on nfl.com that most of the name you mention will find a 10 x money on the new contract ....hmmmm i will wait
