So Howard, a tremendous player for MIA, has basically elected to hold out for a new contract. Forgetting he just signed a 6 year extension from his rookie contract. Yes, less than 12 months later he wants his contract, that no one forced him to sign, ripped up for a new one because he feels he out played it last year. (Led the league with 10 picks). Forget the fact MIA gave his opposite a new contract worth $7 million more, after giving Howard’s his. I hope MIA doesn’t budge one inch and let the new fines agreed on the last CBA kick in on each missed mandatory day ($50k per day).

Now mind you MIA could trade Howard with a minor cap hit ($1.4m this year), but you better believe they will want a bounty of prime Picks in return. Plus the team trading for him will have to pay what Howard wants (highest pads DB in the league). The Twitter freaks of the media are already floating trade rumors, so who knows.

One thing for sure, the guy is idiot for signing that multi-year extension if he felt he was better than what it was worth. Signing a 2 or 3 year deal so as to capitalize on all the extra cap room most teams will have would have been smarter. But nope, double dipping the system seems all some players care about. One thing for sure, we know why Coach loves him, being an idiot brings a connection to him.

ACCOUNTABILITY, hold him to the same dgree you'd hold any other player contract. These entitled ideiots are just that, the ability to throw / catch / run / etc but nothing up top above the neck.

On my team, NOT a chance in hell that contract would get renogatiated.

The STEELERS did the right thing by getting rid of little chest BUT they did the wrong thing by letting him keep the near $22$ mil without a fight.

Now mind you, I think is a different scenario than what AB did. I mean if Howard thought so high on himself, why agree to a 5 year extension from the rookie contract? Was it the up front bonus that was the dangling carrot? All agents push for up front bonuses with multiple years, it’s the SOP nowadays with cap management.

If he wanted more than what he got, should have done what Sutton did, get a two year contract with a nice bump and then play for the big contract when the cap will probably be $240 mil. Ego got checked when Miami paid their other starter more money. Great player, but two cent head.

Got that right. Thought he was “the man” after Miami cut everyone else loose. To bad he didn’t realize the first rule in contracts, you are only guaranteed what’s been put in your pocket/bank. Everything else is just numbers on a paper.

Ike, what's your take on the money little chest stole ? Should have the STEELERS tried to re-coup it............ I know we needed to get ride of him and at the time I kind of looked at it as just part of the price to pay to get rid of him. Looking back i'm kind of thinking maybe they should have tried for some of it (pro-rated) back.

it would have been tricky and they would have lost. Missing practice and not seeking treatment as directed by the training staff are two different animals. Veterans miss practice all the time for various non-medical reasons which aren’t released to the media. Sometimes they are excused or fined. AB‘s melt down that week and later deactivation from the game day roster was per his agent “a miscommunication between the agent/player and Front office/Coaches.” Tomlin called BS on the agent and AB and deactivated him Saturday anyway. AB didn’t even know he wasn’t even Active until he showed up that morning of the game. The NFLPA would have filed a grievance if PIT attempted to recover his prorated bonus for that season, and one game check.Besides, Art2 was trying to resolve the situation before deciding AB and the club should part ways. Eating the $22 mil cap hit was hard, but we did get compensation from a team in our conference for his headaches.

Pretty much summed it up.

“Great player, two cent head”

These guys don’t read the fine print or look for the quick money rather than the long haul

Thanks Ike for the recapand it makes sense. Initially i was correct in being OK with the departure so now currently I am OK as well in part due to the reminder of the bullshit that went down. Thank You

I‘ll give you a factoid Drink, AB is still in the league. But with all of our biases aside, can you or anyone explain why we don’t hear anything about him any longer? Prima Donna WRs with issues of the past stayed in the media‘s eye (i.e. Michael Irvin, TO) far longer. What has he accomplished production wise since? Forget the trophy, that‘s a team award, I’m talking about his recognition as a playmaker. Could it be Ben “made him”? All the off field incidents aside, what has he produced since walking out of PIT?

Excellent question and I've been a proponent of BEN has made him regardless of his (ab) perceived talent. Remember when all the talking heads came out against BEN being a poor teammate spurred on by little chest. Little chest made out it was him who made BEN........... HHHMmmmmmm seems the other way around and he even had the GREAT t*mmyb*y as his QB............. where is the production.

ONCE again the talking heads got it wrong......... I guess I'd be way more surprised if they ever got one right.

He was declining before he left. Throw Ben out of the equation and some time off and you get the here and now model. I fully expect his decline to continue this season.

slash
Any thought on where he might go ? Team that will sign him..? I don't see a long term contract, maybe 2 years tops and a team looking to move up from bottom to mid.

thanks in advance
