The Steelers trade their 1st round and pick to the Chargers, who want a quarterback to replace Rivers.

In exchange the Steelers get the Chargers 2nd, 3rd, and 5th round pick.

We now have two second and three third round picks, plus an extra 5th round pick.

pick #38
pick # 62

Pick #71
Pick #94
Pick #015
A relaistic mock here would look like this:

rd 2 Edge Willis - An edge rusher. Productive, very fast and has the right body type
rd 2 Cornerback Awuzie - Could play the slot or outside. Good coverage skills

rd 3 Safety Evans - A top coverage type of safety
rd 3 Inside linebacker Walker - Has starter ability, plus could also be a nickel LB, a need.
rd Tight End Shaheen - Has more upside and tools than James.

This is a pretty deep draft, meaning we could either find starters or quality role players with these 5 picks.

So we move down 8 spots and pick up 3 picks. Not examining who you would pick that looks like it would heavily favor Steelers.

But here is the problem.

Steelers really need a pass rusher

really.

So 8 spots could be the difference between picking a ok one or a really effective one.

I guess my ultimate yes or no would be who was left on the board.

There are plenty of solid pass rushers. Jordan Willis has excellent upside and productivity.

If Watt is there, maybe I just pick him, but if not, I'd take the trade down offer like this one and pick up an extra two draft picks.

Did you use the trade chart?

Coach, what and how you look at this does make good sense. Like others though, it does depend on who it there at 1.30. If Ben Rothlesberger had 5+ years then I'd say YES go for it. Unfortunately he won't be here that long and we are in the NOW mode. IMPACT players right now.

Who would be left in the board in this scenario?

Depends on who is on the board. If one of my top guys is still there, I'm not risking the chance losing him.

I'd trade to the future. Stockpile a couple picks for next year trade up and get darnold out of USC. Dude is a monster. we can still get a good db, olb, te in second and third... bring on Sam darnold!!!

I would do the trade but I don't think the Chargers would give up so much just to move up from #38 to #30.

Why would the Chargers go for this in any case? Who is available at #30 that would be a good QB prospect or are you thinking they would then trade this #30 and their original #7 and move up to the top 5? If Trubisky is the top QB in this draft is he considered top 5 material?

Trade as many picks as necessary to move up in the top 10 and take Webb.

I'm not sure any QB in the draft is worth a top 7 pick, but The 49ers at #2 or the Jets at #6 might take the first QB off the board. Its possible two QB's will be gone by then.

So the Chargers if they really want a QB to replace Rivers, might wait to see how the board falls, before pulling the trigger to get the guy they like. Just a hypothetical.

All this conversation about taking one of these QBs in the first.......waste...of....time. Pitt isn't choosing a QB in the 1st. They are all two rounds inflated because of lack of talent. All that matters is other teams reach and draft QBs in the 1st. So it pushes more players down to us at 30.

Ring, ring... "Hey Coach, Tom Telesco here. Hell no I'm not giving the Steelers a 3rd and 5th thrown in with my early 2nd to move up 8 spots to 30 unless my dream player falls. We all know in the dream player falls scenario there won't be enough time to have this call anyway as the Steelers will be sprinting to the podium only 12 seconds into their time on the clock."

New hypothetical dream trade scenario thread time.

.

Well... I will say this... all things being equal? We move back 8 spots and get an EARLY 2nd and early 3rd as compensation? No brainer. With the talent in this draft.. unless there is a MUST HAVE player for us at 30? Heck yeah!

And then I watch Tom Telesco get FIRED! Trading down from 30 to 38 should get us ONLY an early 4th or at best a late 3rd round pick (according to the chart that everyone says they never consult)... to get an early 2nd and 3rd? ALL DAY!

I believe the Steelers swapped 1st round picks, and sent a 3rd and a 6th round pick to move up in round one to select Troy Polamalu.

And they moved up from the late twenties
