Would you be for or against a draft lottery system for the non-playoff teams?

I would be in favor of a lottery, at the time of the draft. Draft starts with a the Non-playoff teams getting a single chance in the lottery. Pick ball #1, you are on the clock, Pick #1 announced, pick ball #2 , and so on.

Once you get to the playoff teams, it goes back to the order of finish.

I also would like to see ALL PRESEASON games played at different venues throughout the country. I do believe that would help to grow the base even more.

Raise the player limit to 70, play any that you want on game day.

Season IR and 8 game IR, not to count against player numbers, until their return.

the wheel is ******* idiotic

Why?

What really separates the NFL from any other league is that EVERY resource is exactly the same for each team. The salary cap system is as strict as they come. There is no "cheating the cap" in the NFL. You make stupid decisions with your money and you pay for it. If you are smart, you reap the benefits.

Why can't the draft be exactly the same? Why can't each franchise know ahead of time exactly what picks are coming to them (so they can trade them or not) and know over the course of 32 years, EVERY TEAM WILL GET THE EXACT SAME PICKS in terms of spots and value.

I am a big, big believer in keeping resources the exact same for every team in a league. Part of my frustration with every other league (from the Premier League in Soccer, to MLB to NBA to NHL) is the resources available to different franchises is hugely disproportionate.

I think it would make an amazingly interesting draft season(s) if we could look 3-4 years ahead and know where we are picking.

Give each team a extra 10 million in cap space but the extra cap space can only be used on players with 10 years experience or more. This way teams could keep older vets instead of cutting them to save cap space

I'd rather seem some formula, based upon longevity with the team, which reduces the actual cap-hit of a long-term veteran player.

System isn't broke. If the league feels teams suck to try and get the #1 pick he can penalize the franchise at his own discretion.

I am against a lottery system and always have been. There are extreme deviations that occur the NBA that allow the league to decide which teams get the top talent. It's why the Clippers never got #1 picks when they were terrible for a decade, and teams like Orlando with Shaq and 1 ping pong ball winning the top draft pick the following year. Also Cleveland was assured LeBron James as an Ohio product, and won the draft that year.

I would not be for any lottery process unless the fans are allowed to physically view the ping pong balls being dropped into a machine, and watch the actual pulls on the air. Otherwise, I don't trust the system, because it lends itself to a different type of unfairness.

Very good point sir. It would need to be 100% live on TV. Not the "accountants from Dewey Cheatham, and Howe " verified sealed envelope deal. Heck you can even youtube the very first NBA draft lottery where they did throw envelopes in the hopper that Ewing was the prize for and people say it was fixed for him to be with the knicks.

Totally for it. Why should perennial losers like the browns and raiders who do nothing with their top pics anyway continue to be rewarded for poor play, and teams like the steelers penalized for having winning records?

I would be against this. Sure as can be, if they did this, we would have a 2 win season and then not get the top pick!

The NFL gets it when it comes to the draft. They've already screwed it up enough by scheduling it in prime time and waiting until late April/May. No thanks to the lottery or any other system.

Lottery is need for 3 reasons in the NBA

1. Teams intentionally tank whole seasons to get a top pick because
2. The NBA draft is essentially over by pick 10, sometimes sooner. And
3. With only 5 starters, you only need 1 star player to be a competitive team.

Look at how frequently NFL teams trade out of top picks. That's because you can build a team with multiple 2nd and 3rd rounders. NFL teams also draft based on position. NBA teams just take the best player. This means the bottom 5 NFL teams may not even be targeting the same players in the draft. There could be 5 different #1 picks depending on which team had the 1st pick. And that top 5 could be completely different. Those bottom 5 NBA teams would likely only have a list of 2 players they'd take #1 and the top 5 players would likely be the same no mater what 5 teams had the picks.

It would be insane to have a lottery in the NFL.

I would be against the altering of the current draft. Equality in position of pick vs how you finish, record wise. INCENTIVE, is the key here. This draft system allows perity, as NO OTHER major sport enjoys. A franchise can make mistakes, in the draft or personal (coaches), but, their overall record ios a reflection of that. Good personal teams have a tendacy to stay nearer to the top, or, drafting lower consistantly. Same is said for BAD teams, worse records, drafting sooner. CHEATRIOTS, theuy can over come much, by their CHEATING flucking as@hole methodes. NOTE: Tommy boy didn't go to the whitehouse thingy, seems he was at the stadium................ checking air pressure, I'm sure.

Salute the nation

This is spot on. Rodger has screwed up the NFL enough. He doesn't need any more help.

The NFL has it right -- more thanks to Paul Tagliabue in the sense he had to work with players to prevent kids skipping college or the nonsense 1 & done road. He conceded a losing battle in 1989 with Barry Sanders challenge but kept it reasonable.

The NBA put a lottery in place for purpose of putting Ewing in NY. It's been rigged in other years since I bet too.

The screw up with the draft is that it should already be in the books -- too late into April

AND NO LOTTERY

I wouldn't be in favor of that, but I might be in favor of teams being able to pick where they draft based on a total number of points similar to the draft value chart.

So for example, instead of Tampa Bay picking at 1 and 33, they could opt to pick at 16 and 17 or 32, 33, and 34 (or whatever) until their points were gone.

Worst to first priority, New England would get whatever picks are left after everyone else uses all their points.
