Would you be for or against a draft lottery system for the non-playoff teams?

The NFL has increased the value of the draft by letting former players announce franchise picks ( Blount has ours in round two ) and allowing a fan to announce a later round pick.

But they do not have an NHL or NBA lottery system. Should the NFL get with the times and add yet another significant day to the off season? Two lottery balls for the top 14 slots I think would make the draft even more exciting.

Begin selfish and a homer I can't image the Steelers getting the 1st pick of the draft due to the worst regular season record.

hate what the colts did to get Luck. I think that kind of stuff taints the league so I'd like a lottery system

yes I would be against it.... worst team gets first pick and so forth

System works fine...why change it ...oh wait the name Roger

What Lexx said.

Any changes the NFL makes should be to make the game better, not to pander to "new" fans. This is why the evolving product is less and less desirable for longterm, hardcore fans from the past generation.

I am against a lottery system and always have been. There are extreme deviations that occur the NBA that allow the league to decide which teams get the top talent. It's why the Clippers never got #1 picks when they were terrible for a decade, and teams like Orlando with Shaq and 1 ping pong ball winning the top draft pick the following year. Also Cleveland was assured LeBron James as an Ohio product, and won the draft that year.

I would not be for any lottery process unless the fans are allowed to physically view the ping pong balls being dropped into a machine, and watch the actual pulls on the air. Otherwise, I don't trust the system, because it lends itself to a different type of unfairness.

I didn't think about manipulating the lottery on my first post. If it can't be crystal clear then I wouldn't agree to it either

I suppose fans could watch each team drop their lottery balls into a mixer. I do think some teams will tank their season in games 14-16 if it means getting the right player in the draft. A lottery system makes trades more interesting for sure.

The NFL has always claimed they want each fan base to believe they have a chance. Some teams are stuck in the 5-11 to 8-8 sycele and never improve much. Under a lottery system, things could change.

With two lottery balls the worst team would pick 3rd if they did not win the lottery.

this would almost ensure that the Pats somehow, someway win the Super Bowl and get the #1 pick the following year.

for years.

well they should pick first .

I'm with Lexx, leave it alone. Its worked great forever so please don't let the Fuhrer screw this up too.

No way....you only have to see the stunt the San Antonio Spurs pulled back in '96 to see how much this could skewer the league. The year before the '97 NBA draft, the Spurs won 59 games in '95...the big name coming out in '97 was Tim Duncan. The Spurs tanked the '96 season with 20 wins coming even below the new franchises. Even still, the lowly Celtics...by far the worst team, won only 13 games and only 23 the year before that. Of course, with a good chance the Ping-Pong ball goes their way....the Spurs get the overall #1 pick. Within 18 months the Spurs with their "Twin Towers" of Robinson and Duncan blow thru the NBA playoffs winning 16 of 18 games...the first of five NBA titles since the Duncan pick. Oh, and he's still going. That one year dip in the losing pool gets the Spurs a dynasty. Imagine the Pats pulling the same stunt if the NFL had a weighted draft? If they were to create a lottery, I would not allow a team who won a division title to be able to draft higher than #5 if they follow that season up with a tank job....I'm looking at the Indy Colts here.

I'd be against it, so I expect it to be instituted next year.

My other odd or not so odd ideas:

- Offer a 17th game, and add in an extra bye week to the season. The 17th game has to be played out of state. It could be an expand your base type of game ( Steelers in Mountaineer field ) or abroad to increase popularity of the NFL in Europe or Asia. 16 teams get even year 17th " home " games, 16 teams get odd year " 17th home games. Add more cap 1/17th more in cap space for the 17th game.

- Give each team a extra 10 million in cap space but the extra cap space can only be used on players with 10 years experience or more. This way teams could keep older vets instead of cutting them to save cap space

- Allow all 53 players to play on game day.

- Move kickoffs 5 yards back to where they belong

Watching Cleveland lose the lottery, and moved out of the 1st round pick would not appeal to you?

can I say it any other way ...worst picks first ..my hate for the Browns not withstanding ,,

Suck for luck was bullshit. A lottery for the top 3 to 5 would be a good thing.
