With Conner out how will our run game look?

Like I said the ability is there. The lightbulb has yet to go on.

If the Steelers start calling plays that McFarland runs well, things can be different.

His timing and vision at this point are issues that hopefully go away Tuesday night.

Calling different plays won’t align his feet with his head and vision. He’s playing faster than he’s seeing things right now and the results are suboptimal.

Yeah Polamalu couldn't align his head, it was too big.

I hope we give McFarland at least several series, if not close to half the game. I want to see him play. Snell, not so much. I don't think he is our future starter. McFarland? the jury is still out since he's only had a few touches so far this season.

I think Snell is what he is at this point, a slower down hill type of runner who needs good blocking to get going.

McFarland has been a disappointment to me. I don't think he's even hitting the right hole at times. He goes down too easily. His footing has been an issue as well. The Steelers are calling plays for him to run up the middle. I'm not sure why.

It will be interesting to see what McFarland can do with 10 touches. Maybe the light bulb will go on.

It will look better. Lett Benny Snell Football hit the holes and stop this sideways running nonsense.

LOL, it might look better with McFarland running sideways, as he has the speed to beat just about any end or LB to the corner for positive yardage.

I don't think Snell is better than Conner, but McFarland if he finds his groove could be. It will be an interesting day after if McFarland shines. Fans should hope he should.

On Conner behind the numbers is this. He has played 5 fames averaging under 3.2 yards a carry. Sure he ran it well vs. the Jaguars, Texans and Broncos. Those are some really bad teams.

Conner runs with Ben and three very good receivers forcing the safeties and DB's to back off when the other team rightly so is expecting pass. His 4.4 yards per rush for the season in my opinion is a bit inflated because of that fact. As a pass catcher he's averaging just 5.8 yards per catch.

Conner might be the Steelers best back for now, but it's clear we need to upgrade in 2021.

Calling plays he's familiar with would help him. Running McFarland up the middle is as bad as running Conner outside the tackles. While this is on Randy, it would help if our head coach knew something about offense, and cut that crap out.

Kind of shoots your theory that he could be a lead back all to ****.

:uglyhammer:

McFarland has shown he is not quite ready for the NFL game. This is a guy who needed the offseason workouts with the team and he looks lost out there.

We are wasting gameday reps on him...

Smallwood has the same skillset as 26, and is a veteran with a Super Bowl ring..

Why not give him those reps tomorrow or next week?

I don't know if you've noticed, but they're not calling plays that any of our RB's run well. On top of that, we have an offensive coaching staff that has called the same stupid run plays all season long. Do you really think the bulb is going to come on this week to where Fichtner suddenly decides it's a good idea to start playing to our players' strengths?

It will be an interesting day after if McFarland shines.

No it won't. The Rats are basically missing their entire defensive line, a couple starting LB's and guys in the secondary. You will be able to glean nothing from beating a team missing 23 players that are mostly starters or 2nd string.

And somehow has 645 yards on 145 carries for an average of 4.45 per touch. Throw in 5 tds. Weird how that is. Seriously though. We should run out of the formations that work and strap the others. Third and one? Spread them out in shotgun with Connor at Ben's side. Let Ben decide if we run or pass it from what he sees. Live and die by Ben from this point on.

The running game is bad, the worst its been in Ben's entire career.
Everyone knows it, besides some of you idiots on here.

645 yards?? It's week 12
BOTH of the Browns Runningbacks have more rushing yards than Conner and 1 of them missed 5 games

Idiots....really? I quoted someone that stated he gets 30 yards on 20 carries every game. I simply posted Connor stats. Simple reading compression helps sometimes.

never mind. its not worth my time

Fixed it for you.

Fixed it for you.

If it was only that easy, Snell in his last five games which includes the Bungles, Cowboys, and Jaguars has rushed it 15 times for 30 yards, for 2.5 yards a carry. Alarmingly more than half of those yards came on one play. ( 17 yard run ) This means on the other 14 rushes, Snell is getting less than one yard a carry, or .928 yards per rush if you prefer.

Sorry, this flat out sucks. Something tells me the Ravens defense vs the rush is just a bit better. But hey if you can fix it, please do get a job with the Steelers.

The truth and fact don't matter for a select few poster here. Stick around you'll see. The problem is compounded by not using players correctly. Conner is too slow to run wide and McFarland should not be asked to run it up the middle.

And for the select individual (you), Truth and Fact are separated specifically.

The answer to the thread is we did not miss Conner at all.

Good place to drop this..

Steelers can't run the ball.
Steelers are 2nd in the NFL in time of possession or 4 minutes more a game than the Titans and Derrick Henry.

So the team is very capable of playing keep away even if the run game is average or in some fans eyes below average.

albeit through the courtesy of the defense.

IMO!!

We watched Cower run the ball and play posession and field advantage without a Franchise qb.

Now we have a qb who can play possession football, with a competent D, and no run game to eat the clock.

To beat KC we need to keep their offense off the field. With the offense the way it is , the question becomes can our defense do it alone.
