I think Snell is what he is at this point, a slower down hill type of runner who needs good blocking to get going.

McFarland has been a disappointment to me. I don't think he's even hitting the right hole at times. He goes down too easily. His footing has been an issue as well. The Steelers are calling plays for him to run up the middle. I'm not sure why.

It will be interesting to see what McFarland can do with 10 touches. Maybe the light bulb will go on.

with Conner out, I doubt he gets many yards.

It is starting to look like it doesnt matter who isat running back. the offense will go around Bens arm

It is impossible to say what a back can do on three carries in a game. Snell had ball security issues vs. the Giants when he had extended playing time, but otherwise looked good. First off lets hope JC is good, for JC the person. The upside is Tomlin is forced (and that is usually what it takes) to see if the run game is the running back, the blocking or the scheme. The other positive is Conner gets two games off to heal without injury and if his case is mild, would be as close to 100% at resumption (if there is at that time) as possible.

Better.... they won’t try to dance as much

Not sure I get where this comes from. I don't see that at all. Not every run is a sledge hammer dive. Some have to let the block develop. If anything that has been a criticism of JC, not letting play develop. But dance. Sorry, not seeing that at all.

Samuels is out as well. I'd go 50-50 on Snell and McFarland. Snell fumbles too much and really doesn't look like he improved from his 1st season. Give McFarland more touches and see what he can do. The way our run game has been sucking, even if McFarland hits the wrong hole, so what. Conner usually had no hole and got hit 3 to 5 yards in the backfield as soon as he was given the ball.

Tip of the hat to Falco.....Smallwood may get a lot of carries as he has the most experience of all active RBs.

Steelers are rolling with two backs. I’d say they’re not even gonna try to run.

Forgot about Smallwood.. He wasn't too bad when he did play for other teams.

Since weeks ones great performance againt the NYG's, SNELL is 38 carries for 82 yards 2.16 yards per carry....

I guess we are watching different games....ALL I HAVE SEEN all year is dancing with our RB's....Or running for their lives....LOL

I think so too. I could see the case for either. I was thinking Cain in the event they go for an air assault on the Ravens and just platoon out tight ends and receivers

Any time Conner gets the ball and has a bit of room to run he starts titty-shaking like he thinks he's juking people when in reality he's throwing away extra yards because he's neither athletic or elusive.

Snell will get stronger as the game goes on, McFarland will add explosiveness, and Smallwood (assuming he is called up) will add some versatility/pass-catching ability. Honestly I'm not too worried about it. They'll also run a lot of their pseudo-runs with quick passing. They'll be ok

Isn't that what she said?

Based on what exactly? The guy trips over his own feet. His mind and legs aren't on the same page and haven't been all season.

Based on his college tape.. the explosiveness is there, he just has to get it together. Maybe with more reps in practice and an increased role, we'll start to see it. Thinking aspirational here, lol

The entire running back room is trash. I predict Empty backfield.

Well, there should be plenty of good backs on the draft board at pick #32.

A lot of guys have great college tape. McFarland hasn't even given us a hint of any explosiveness in the NFL. Until he does, he doesn't offer it, because right now he isn't very good.

We saw it in the first NFL game he played. McFarland has amazing acceleration to the hole and plenty of speed. Speaking of the college tape, Randy F would be wise to call similar plays that worked for McFarland in college.

You're talking about 1 carry for 20 yards. Other than that run he has 47 yards on 19 carries.

James Conner lacks a final gear. At times his vision can be a little meh. Most of the rest of these criticisms are HORSESHIT. Think of the way 26 used to run. now that was ****** dancing. They've had global issues with the run game for several weeks. JC had it going last week and got pulled at a point where the run game could have taken over the game and he would have exceeded 100 yards. He is part of the pass pro that is very good. In fact he often has the most important job accounting for the blitzer. He catches well and runs after catch. That said, his absence creates opportunity for the next players. Let's see what they have. There is a solid margin for error.
