With Burns a bust, Hunter on IR, Conner out 4 who knows how long. Why no replacements?

I can't believe the other 31 teams are sleeping on the surplus of NFL talent currently on the market. A lot of GM's need fired.

I don't dispute that it can happen but what are the statistical odds of players in later rounds being superstars let alone even making the team? For every one you mention there are probably 50 who barely make a roster.(yes i totally pulled that number out of my *** with no evidence but I am sure it is close)

Throw out rounds 4-7. Hell, throw out 3-7, you are telling me that we cannot draft solid contributors on the defensive side of the ball in the first 2 rounds of the draft regardless of draft position? I don;t buy that our scouting department and GM have become that incompetent overnight, at some point a coach and his staff have to develop players, find ways to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. Put players in a position to succeed. Do you honestly believe that Bostic, Fort, Watt, hell any LB for that matter can consistently cover wideouts and run with them and be effective? If the answer to that question is no, then why do you have a scheme that asks a player to do something they are not capable of doing? Everyone in the NFL knows our DB's are awful, yet we continue to run a 2 DL set and give the QB 5 seconds to throw the football. It is not rocket science. Yet it NEVER changes.

A lot of GM's aren't fighting for a playoff spot, division title...etc. Again, CJ Anderson was signed by the Raiders AFTER the Steelers knew the severity of Conners injury and after our grand plan was promoting a player from the PS to the 53.

SELL, NO the FO (Colbert) has NOT done enough to justify not being cheap. I personally don't know who is out there for quality players to be brought in but you will NOT find out if you don't bring anyone in. TOMLIN has trouble sizing up talent but in general if a player is brought in I'd think many coaches, including Colbert would be watching. I'm afraid our last great talent evaluator has passed away and things are way less in that department (RIP Dan). I'm NOT saying hire just to be hiring but you MUST take a LOOKsie as doing nothing actually means you are going backwards.

You know its been a huge concern of mine since Dan’s departure from this earth. Does Art II have what it takes? I don’t see him having near the passion that his father had and I’m hoping that this is just not a business to him.
There just isn’t any sense of urgency from anyone but just business as usual, next man up.

The reality is, you have to weigh the actual possibility that the Steelers could even DO something down the stretch and into the playoffs if you DID spend money on some FAs. The fact is, it really doesn't matter WHO they add right now. They haven't beaten the Raiders in Oakland for over 20 years... Think about that. And then they have the P*ts and Saints.

Even if they DO make it to the playoffs, they would likely get the Chargers again. Is Tomlin going to go out and find a slightly FASTER linebacker to man up on Allen? Cause THAT's worth a few million in future cap space.

They have almost certainly pissed their season away in the last two games. They've been exposed and Tomlin and Butler are NOWHERE near smart enough to fix it.

Save the money and hope you can get somebody decent for next year. And further, hope that Tomlin just stays the heck out of the way.

I dont know what goes on with the DBs here. Seems like they are on the verge or breaking out then regress. I think it was Cortez Allen a few years ago he came on strong looked like he was going to turn the corner then he became terrible. Same thing happened to Burns. He seemed to be improving and he has just plain stunk this year. I dont know if its coaching or if we draft mental cases or what...

There's nothing available now. Unless they want to sign Kareem Hunt, there's now RBs out there.

Every team is looking for DBs. You are scraping the barrel now if you bring somebody in. Marcus Allen is a better prospect than anything available. Sutton may be back from his personal issues soon.

DHB is back and can fill in for Hunter as a backup WR. I think Eli Rogers may be coming back soon too.

YOU can "hope" in one hand and "****" in the other and see which one fills up faster. Point being wig, TOMLIN is going nowhere and will still have his hands all over this dumb ******* CMVLT "D". He hasn't relinquished anything to this point he sure as hell won't in the future. Speaking of future, Is this schematic of the "D" our future and if so.................we are in for some heartbreak as this scheme will NEVER win a SB regardless of talent.

I would like to see DHB get a shot at the Z. He can play all 3 WR spots, and was actually a Z starter 2 years ago before we promoted Hamilton. DHB hurt his ankle that game and never came back.

IF I was GM the Steelers would still have Bell because I would have payed him and we'd have Jalen Ramsey on the phone for next year.

I don't care how many draft picks it costs us.

You can't go cheap on elite talent

I owe you a bottle of vodka for this!!!

as much as edmunds looks like a good pick a more polished played like Ronnie Harrison should have been the pick, and I hope Marcus Allen pushes or beats out sean Davis as he looks like a faster as useless versionof mike mitchell.

But... Bell isn't elite talent. We've pretty much seen that this year. Conner has done more this year from virtually any statistical angle you look at it than Bell did last year. I can find no evidence that Bell is "elite".

And how much better would we be if we had BOTH!!!!

Go back to arguing over 3rd string scrubs, U better pray Ben plays one more year while the Steelers go cheap and squander away another season

I think you are near correct because BELL & CONNER are in the elite class, CONNER more on ability and "SPEED" where as BELL was more the quantity of touches and numbers. I would NOT pay either one of them the amount of money BELL was asking. A-N-D I think spike would well be on his way to bankruptcy I'f he was running the team.

First, While I agree 110% that the Steelers need play makers, are you confident that the Tomlin and Co. would be smart enough to design and defensive scheme and game plan to utilize their talents correctly? If they can't figure out any more smoke and mirrors besides having Bostic cover a #1 WR, I have little faith they would have the common sense to go man coverage with Ramsey and Haden.
Second, there is NO way the Steelers could afford to pay Bell and Ramsey without losing several key players in order to stay under the cap. If we pick up Bell and Ramsey and lose an AB, Pouncey, Ben...etc to make that happen then we are no better off then we are right now.

I dont give a goddamn about defense, they aren't the ones that will win games for us. Cut everyone on the DL and find waiver wire scrubs, they'd do just as well.
Their job is to do just enough stops to get the ball back to the offense. They just need to be average.

The money talent was on offense and we just chucked a diamond ring in the garbage because, stubborn

Can we hold off on labeling Conner as "elite" until we get more than a 4-5 game production out of him. The very reason that we claim that Bell was not necessary, because of our OL may be the very reason that Conner had his successes this season. People knocked Bell for not staying healthy, yet we have not seen Conner stay healthy now 2 years in a row. The way Tomlin treats his starting RB's, I don't know if any of them will ever be able to stay healthy for an 19-20 game run to the SB. I am in no way in favor of paying Bell what he asks, but labeling Conner as elite at this point is a bit premature IMO.

Artie Burns draft profile:
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/artie-burns?id=2555344

Pretty much sums it up - has been getting by on athletic talent for years. Came out early to look after his family which is laudable. My question is whether his heart is in it - he's been paid and has provided for his family. Maybe he doesn't have that drive to get better or maybe his mechanics, or lack of, are so heavily ingrained that he can't change them. Either that or he has to be completely broken down first and then built back up but hasn't got the confidence any more to build those skills back up and so regresses to what worked in college which was grab and flail.

From one write up:
Lance Zierlein said:
Miami CB Artie Burns
His stock has skyrocketed since defensive backs coaches have been able to dig into his tape. Burns catches like a wide receiver and is a championship hurdler, so you know he's athletic. The tape and technique are raw and uneven, and Burns appears to coast on his athleticism too often. Great potential, but a projection player with a lower floor.
