With Bryant out for the year, how will Wheaton do?

It's from a Steeler reporter the mods do not want to be named here. Coates he says drops too many passes in practice.

Pm me the link if you have it

Is it written in stone yet that he'll miss all season? I know that was what was handed down originally but is he going to appeal?

Good point to consider. Brady lost his appeal and is appealing again - asking for a stay so he can play until the appeal is heard. Then he may appeal to the Supreme Court per a recent article I read. Maybe just run the appeals process and be granted stays until it's time to retire, at which point the suspension and appeal is moot. If I were a player, I'd appeal constantly and never take a fine or a suspension.

Ford, last year he had:

79 targets. 44 catches, 749 yards, ( 17.0 per catch ) 5 TD's

If I had to guess, a healthy Wheaton gets more than 800 yards. I'd guess 850-1,000.

Yes, but I feel Green, Coates, and James are the three that benefit more than Wheaton. Wheaton only catches 55% of the passes thrown his way.

How quickly we discount Heath...

He had amazing hands. Sure he wasn't quicksilver but he got 10 or 15 yards downfield and he CAUGHT the ball. And when he wasn't 10 or 5 yards downfield, what exactly was Heath doing? I can tell you what I bet Green WON'T be doing...

No, I expect Green will be alright, but let's not kid ourselves. He's no Heath.

Heath wasn't Heath toward the end

Green will stretch the seem, let's not kid ourselves into thinking he isn't capable of at least that.

fixed it for you....

plus setting new records for punt and kick-off returns by a rookie

If all that was wanted was to stretch the seam a 4th wide out would be the way to go. Not knocking the new guy on the team but Heath was able to block and catch. We have had lots of guys that did not block real well compared to Heath. The real value in Heath was the defense did not know if he was going to be a blocker for a run or a pass catcher because he was so good at both. The other guys are not at the point where they are very good at both but have a strong point and that tends to allow for a defense to focus on one or the other. So the pass catchers might get a different sub package than a player like Heath would.

Clearly Heath's blocking ability will be missed to a degree. Green's down field speed will off set that some as if Miller was down field, then he wasn't blocking. As for AB, people are selling him short as I see 1400yrds 110+ catches.

.
If Wheaton can catch a pass behind and between his legs doin a forward summersault, he'll do just fine! LOL

The thing is Wheaton had that one career game and nothing special besides that. I hope he can take it up a notch but only snagging 55% of the balls thrown his way and just to compare AB had 70% of his caught. I guess I am not expecting him to blow it up this year.

I guess what I assume is AB will get his passes thrown his way but after that I see the ball getting spread out. I doubt we have a second thousand yard receiver while AB wouldn't shock me to go for 2,000. We have Bell who will get carries and catches, Green who is not the blocker Miller was so probably getting him into coverage is the best option, Coates last years third round pick, DHB who looked good during Bryant's suspension last year, Jesse James who to me looked good enough to step in for Miller and now will only be the #2 TE. That's a lot of good players who all will need to get the ball so I just don't see Wheaton being the only guy benefiting.

Green is still hurt, and it's unclear if Haley can incorporate his best stuff into our offense. Remember, Green is used to Rivers on the money timing and accuracy, Ben operates a bit differently. It might take some time for the two to develop chemistry.

Coates may or may not be the answer. It was confirmed that he didn't look good in practice until the Denver game. His hands are not a given.

James is nothing but a 2nd TE, and by definition won't be on the field that often.

With Bryant out, I think Wheaton picks up a lot of those targets. It's a shame about Bryant. He had Randy Moss-like potential, and without him, our deep passing will suffer...even if Coates' hands prove to be reliable.

It has not been confirmed about Coates you are adjusting the quote to fit your argument..the quote was toward the end of the year Coates started to play better in practice it doesnt say until the Denver game..

Lets not kid ourselves... With Lev. Bell and A. Brown in the lineup, (Wheaton, Coates, Green) are non-factors. Honestly, I can see Green getting frustrated for lack of receiving attempts. Our offense is not super diversified when Bell and Brown are consistently getting all the reps. I'm not concerned about Wheaton, Coates, or Green stepping up more than I'm concerned about the health of Bell and Brown both coming off their injuries. For as much as they receive the ball, they are that much more increased risk for re-injury.

What are you talking about? Ben spreads the ball around like no one else.

Coates will have better stats than Wheaton by season's end.
Coats will also work the outside opposite AB while Wheaton plays the slot.
Write it down, take a picture.

Coates will step up. Put that down

Costs reminds me of a thicker Anquan Bolden.

Do you think Coats has put on some muscle from original draft prospect?? I wonder if he gets to much muscle will it slow him down and how close is he of being in danger of that aspect. Watching him last year, it seemed as this may be the case............

If he did put on some muscle it didn't seem to effect his catch radius or speed in the Denver game. We'll see this year where he's at.

Speed helps, but Coats has a nack for getting open. Hines wasnt very fast himself and he had a damn good career. I'm big on Coates. Even though he's an Auburn guy

he was already built like an ox since college

So you gathered all that from the handful of plays that he played last season?

Again...you gathered this in the handful of plays that he played in last season? I hope the kid is a stud but to say on way or the other at this point is fruitless.....

Last season and college. He was always a deep threat at Auburn. Gotta factor in defenses have to cover Brown, Wheaton, etc. Time for Coates to step up and I believe he will
