Will the Steelers re-think how they structure contracts?

AB showed players the blueprint.. get your guaranteed money from the Steelers early as they always do, then demand a trade and throw a hissy fit until it gets done, and bamboozle the next team into giving you more guaranteed money. So he is basically double dipping and getting huge guaranteed money from two teams. And he left the Steelers holding the bag - the $21M dead money hit that only exists because they’ve already paid out so much bonus to him already.

Will this situation cause the team to re-think how they structure deals for star players, or is this too much of a special case?

I know the Steelers were tired of the distraction, but sounds like to me that they need some better negotiators.
We are stuck with his 21 million anyways, i would have played harder ball than what the Steelers did, he wouldn't have
gotten all of the rewards, while we get a 3rd and 5th.

I think Colbert will not put himself in the same situation. He signed Brown and paid him when he didn’t have to and on top of it he gave him guaranteed money. I think for the ghetto rats on the team he learned not to give money upfront because they blow it and want more right away. Ben, JuJu, Watt are guys you can expect to spend money wisely and honor their contract. Hood rats don’t care. They get their welfare check on the first of the month and piss it away in a week then start stealing from any and everyone for the rest of the month. That’s what AB did and got away with it.

I wonder if Art Rooney II has learned anything?

The Steelers messed up giving him his last deal and knowing the type of person he was. Off campus apartment during training camp, missing meetings. missing walk throughs, FB living, his tweeting etc. Should have been a major red flag. Steelers just opened their wallet and handed him the largest contract for a WR at the time. Ryan Clark stated when told by a front office member that if Wallace turns down the contract offered to him they were going to offer it to AB....after hearing that he told that person that if they did that they would be creating a monster. That was after AB's 2nd season. Stuff has been going on for a very long time.

Sadly. we will not, Adjustments and change are not the strong suit of the ownership, front office or head "coach".

I'd say wait until we see what the new CBA looks like, I'm betting there will be some different language regarding tags and FA's as a result of Bell, Brown, and the Steelers, but as it stands now I'd say don't give anyone a contract longer than 3 years. Then if they become a problem they'll be gone soon.

I think all owners are looking at this and saying this needs to change.
