Will the Steelers Make a Move Today???

Wow i am simply AMAZED that the Steelers didn’t make a trade....

This team overvalues draft picks. They only make trades for project guys they liked in the draft...

Remember stepping out of the Steelers way got us Bettis back in the day

But every trade deadline we stand pat while bonafide star players get dealt for peanuts...

Exactly! Old way of conducting business. Tate or Thomas would have instantly improved this team. Nix would have been an upgrade.

The Steelers have had some real impact players from outside of the organization. Bettis. Hartings. Farrior. Clark. Haden.

You absolutely move mid-round picks for proven commodities when you have a team like the Steelers. NFL teams can turn things around in a single year with free agency and a draft pick or two and for how many misses they have every year, why not take a chance with someone who can help your team NOW.

"He will have to end his holdout before Week 10 in order to accrue an NFL season, which would make him eligible for unrestricted free agency after the 2018 season." This is per the Sporting News.

CORRECTION ........... Due to the STEELERS possibly using the roster exempt option (2-weeks) BELL might consider showing up week 9 as the exemption doesn't count towards acrue. Just a clarification.

Salute the nation

I hate to say it because I don't want to believe it.

This team is in it for participation trophies. Some fans are too so they fit well together.

They might not even realize it. But the old way is dead.

Hell even last years SB teams had significant free agents added.

When you know you have a weakness at corner you ADDRESS IT. Who gives a **** if you give up a draft pick. Our franchise QB is at the tail end, act ******* like it!

And fans say oh slash we can make due with this and that at this position.

History tells us well no we can't. As coming up short and one and done's don't scream that.

I mean if you are going to be a rah rah coach and not a X and O coach, be a identify the weakness and address it coach.

"We believe in our picks", Tommy Tom,

But a lot of fans eyes believe that some of these picks aren't cutting it.

But hey we got those participation trophies for having a winning season no worries.

When you see your best isn't good enough, why not tweak your ******* approach?

I have thought this for a while, we have the dumbest highly talented team in the NFL.

I think this has to do with the '74 draft and they are certain if they keep with the program, it will be repeated.

No its the old Dan Rooney takeaway from the pre super Bowl years when Steelers coaches constantly traded picks for vet players....
Dan concluded correctly that in that era why should you trade potential for other people’s problems...

That was true then... the only reason a player got traded was he sucked or had a major injury issue or character flaw

With modern free agency and salary caps good players get moved because a lot of reasons...

Like not fitting a system... or the team not going to make the playoffs and the player not going to be resigned... or cap issues... or even a team rebuilding or just wanting to get younger or cheaper at the position

Its a different league...

It takes two teams to trade, who is to say the Steelers weren't active and other teams just didn't want to see us get better or had a far greater value on a player they had than we were willing to give up?

Some people are saying why didn't we trade for Thomas or Tate? Really we want to trade for someone who would be #3 WR on our team. Thomas is 31 and under contract till 2020. You want to take that cap hit and pay him the $14 million he is due next year as well?

The only reason we didnt trade is because we are stupid. Can't be any other reason.

I wanted the Steeler’s to make a trade for an upgrade at corner but none of the multiple corners that were supposed to be available got traded even though multiple teams were looking for corners. (The Pats even put Rowe on IR today.). That either means they were not actually available or the asking price was way out of line. If 2-3 good corners got moved and the Steelers missed out, I would be more upset.

Imagine if we didn't spend 6 million a year on Vince Williams. Giving a poor player 6 million a year limits what you can do in getting other better players.

The Steelers 3rd was as good as the Eagles. ****** rights I'd want a third receiver like that. He has 500 yards for shitsville Lions. You know the coverage he would see here. Football is matchups. He makes for a matchup nightmare. You are talking about a third and the cap room you've saved on Bell.

Tate may be the best WR out there in the middle of the field after the catch. I see a lot of Lions games living here. Hell, even getting Dix for that price would have immediately upgraded our defense. I don't worry about the trade deadline, we rarely participate. If Haden and the rest of them can get, and stay healthy we'll be better. Ultimately if we get after the passer properly it will help the rest of the defense as well.

They sure wasn't aggressive in addressing their deficiencies.

Not sure how that can be perceived as smart.

I am sure they think they are smart, doing it a certain way.

That way isn't bringing home championships this decade.

How do you know they weren't aggressive? Multiple new sources said the Steelers were in the market for a trade. Just because none eventuated doesn't mean they weren't aggressive. You can be aggressive and it can backfire also. The Vikings were aggressive when they went after Herschel Walker, Cowboys ended up with multiple Lombardi's thanks to that aggression. Saints were aggressive when they got Ricky Williams also, how did that pan out?

For me the best value trade that happened was the Rams getting Fowler for a 3rd but even that trade isn't a given. His stats the 2 and a half seasons he has been in the league are basically the same as Bud Dupree's and many around here label him a bust. Going to the Rams is a perfect spot for Fowler with Donald, Suh and go on that D Line he should have the opportunity to shine as a situational pass rusher.

I would have like to get the GB safety, too. He is on the last year of his Rookie contract. Would eat up a few million of bbn our cap space (that we could roll over into next year) with no guarantee he is around after 1/2 a season.

Well they haven't been aggressive in some time. So sure I don't know that they haven't or have yesterday.

But really nothing for me to lean on to make me think otherwise.

Every fan saw what they did or didn't do in free agency. besides Haden falling in their lap, we have seen a plethora of borderline scrubs brought in.

If I am wrong no biggie, just really no confidence that anything took place but general inquires.

I drove semi's for a short time. In school they taught me to look ahead far ahead on the road.

So looking ahead how can anyone feel overconfident at one corner position and one WR position?

And with the pattern presented wonder if this will contribute to another season cut short?

I tend to agree with a lot of what you say. Although I don't feel WR is a pressing need. I honestly wouldn't swap our top 2 for any other pairing in the NFL. Just a matter of utilizing the rest of the bunch. Hopefully the rest can fill any holes we have. Hopefully Washington can develop over the later part of the season. You throw in Switzer, Vance Mc and James, Connor and maybe Bell and I think you have more than enough weapons in the passing game.

3rd receiver doesn't bother me at all. You can always bump juju outside and throw any TE, Samuels, Switzer,or Conner inside. We have weapons, just scheme mismatches with personnel.

And Tate was a good slot receiver, but I've seen him make plenty of plays on the outside. He would have been a big upgrade over whatever they have after Juju. Washington hasn't worked out so far. Not blaming him, but the numbers are the numbers.
