Will Ben Take Less Pay or Break the Bank?

Well, you know Ben isn't playing for another SB. With Tomlin in charge that just isn't a possibility and that has GOT to figure into his thought process.

Basically, he's just playing for cash and stats at this point. This year was probably the last realistic shot they had and we all saw how super-coach managed that. With Brown either gone or in full on mercenary mode, with the OL coach off to a conference rival all they have to rely on is the superb coaching talents of the Special Teams guy and Butler doing his best impression of a guy who actually does something.

I have zero faith they have any shot at the SB. So I would guess if Ben has any sense at all he'll go for the cash.

That could be and Ben may realize that and take a $25 million per contract. It will say alot about what he is thinking and/or seeing from ownership.

I can see Ben signing for an average of 25 million per season covering 2019 through 2022 making him 40 when he retires. I said in an earlier post 22-25 million per but think it will be closer to 25 million per. Most of what he gets will be in signing bonus anyway but I thing that amount per season is fair to both the team and Ben and thats sure as hell not breaking the bank.

Good grief, we have a bunch of whiney beeeeeeotches on here. I just asked a simple question about Ben and his upcoming salary. If Ben goes all in and wants $25 Million per, that would hurt the team and absolutely hurt his ability in his final couple of years to get another ring. If he does that fine, he has earned what is his. But, if he does take less money and the team can sign a top free agent to shore up the D or something else, doesn't that show he is all about winning a ring and he would actually have a better shot at doing so? I don't want Bell back, I just used him as an example in my original post. As much as we hate Marsha and his potential reasons for not breaking the bank his last 2 contracts, him taking less money than other top QB's absolutely helped the Cheats and cannot be denied. No matter how you view Ben now or later and how you view this question, how much Ben demands in this contract will go a long way toward whether we win another championship with him under center. I don't see Ben playing any more than 3 more years so the window is very tight.

All in at $25 MILL? That's a bargain now a days.

That's what Brees signed for, 2 years 25 mil per. Was considered a discount.

Tomlin is the coach. There is no hope whatsoever for another ring.

if he had zero faith in being able to get back to the SB with Tomlin, I doubt he would continue to play for him and would ask for a trade. Otherwise, why restructure, just finish this contract and someone else will pay him a shitload, right?

He should squeeze the team for every nickel he can get out of them. Whats the F'n point in being fair? To keep the team together for another run at a championship? With this coaching staff?!?

If the Rooneys don't care about winning, then Ben shouldn't care. He should ask for the max possible and take no less.

$25 million would be a lot. Many don't put Ben in the top 10, let along top 5 QB's and based on last year alone, I'm not sure his numbers support top 5 but maybe top 10 money. So, $25 million definitely would not be a discount.

Sure it would be, especially when these other guys start to sign new deals.

Curios if all those saying he should take less than he's worth do the same when they're up for a raise or new contract.

If I was the 7th all-time highest earning player in the NFL with over $187 million, absolutely. I wouldn't even know what to do with that much money and I'd want to do all that I can to win another championship.

If I am Ben, I am getting all I can. Everyone else does. Why does Ben have to keep restructuring and taking less pay to accommodate a bunch of prima donna's? **** that. That ain't winning a SB with all the handicaps this team has, might as well get one last rich deal before riding off into the sunset.

Not how restructuring works at all. When players restructure it takes non-guaranteed base salary and turns it into a signing bonus. Restructuring actually works out much better for players because it gives them guaranteed money.

Oh, and one more thing....................He is playing as high a caliber as any QB out there.

The market for his skills is $30M+. It is what it is.

Personally, I hope he gets top dollar. The market says he's earned it.

Anything less than that and he'll be very underpaid. I believe he will probably just name his price then the Steelers will move the numbers around to make it work with the cap.

Or, they could sign him to a 5 year extension with a large signing bonus, fully assuming he will never make it past year 3, which I seriously doubt he will.

Career earnings are irrelevant. Just because you couldn't spend that much money doesn't mean that someone with that kind of salary and lifestyle can't. Would you walk into your boss's office and tell him to reduce your salary so someone else in the office can make more or to save the company money to bring in someone else? Maybe you'd forgo a raise to help someone else, but I have never seen anyone ask for less money for doing the same job. It sounds ludicrous to me when I think of it that way. The team has plenty of cap room to bring in a few players.

You asked a question, I answered it. I will answer it again. If I made that much money, because career earnings are 100 percent relevant, I would not demand top QB money to instead allow the team to allocate it to another position. Wouldn't be that big of a deal if my average yearly salary was only $27 million compared to $32 million.

I'd do two chicks at the same time.

You got the reference!

I get you, Lunar. I get you man.

Okay that sounded a little gay. How about some vintage Sam Elliott to straighten it up

I think he'll take as much as he can get, considering his tax bracket.

Oh yeah...I think he deserves it.
