Will Artie Burns Make the 53-Man Roster?

Totally different situation. If Burns gets his 800k roster bonus he is a Steeler regardless of how he performs it was the same with Uncle Jarvis and Dupree and about 19 other guys I could name. Follow the money.

I'd rather give Burns 800k, than Dupree 9 million.

I dunno Dupree despite his share of haters didn't have a bad season. Burns on the other hand had a dogshit season that he was burnt more times than not. If you pay 800k for a pile of ****,at the end of the day it still is a pile of ****.

Yes, but Burns doesn't start and can just be an emergency.
Dupree averages like 2 tackles a game and. .29 or some **** sacks per game for 9 million dollars. Dupree is the better player no doubt, but a 9 million dollar cap, hell no. We paid Moats like a million dollars and he put up better stats over the 16 games he started, and that's without TJ Watt opposite him.

I know the bleacher report had him going late first round to KC I think it was, had us taking William Jackson III

I may have my years mixed up but I think KC traded out of the spot behind us after we picked burns?

Burns was good his rookie year. He's just regressed since. I'd like to see them trade him. Get a 6th rounder and be done.

Not even sure Burns can be an emergency option at this point. Maybe an emergency if he sees the field in any capacity is more like it. Hell even last year in spot duty he was lit up more than a Xmas tree at Xmas. They couldn't even hide him for a play without him giving up a big play. He looked scary bad. I have zero faith any field time would end positively for the defense.

yeah, but a CB wasnt selected until the first part of the 2nd Round, so Burns absolutely, totally would have still been available well until the 5th. duh. more. on.

Figure Haden and Nelson are your starters. Hilton and Sutton are battling for the slot job and imagine they both make the team. Layne will make it by virture of draft round status. That is 5 right there. It is possible they keep 6 CB's but that means only 4 Safeties if you assume keeping 10db's. That puts Burnts pretty well on the bubble. Barring a major injury or the light bulb going off, I think Burnts has trouble making the final 53.

Kameron Kelly may be an interesting one to watch. I understand he got some first team reps at FS during last round of OTAs. Not sure if they see him as a CB or S, but if he shows anything in camp/preseason and can play both S and CB, Burnts is a gonner for sure.

I saw a few mocks that had him going to us, one I remember specifically was Charlie Casserly.

If Burns is one of the five best cornerbacks in camp, he'll make the team. This will be his last year as a Steeler, unless he's willing to play for veteran minimum next season. It would be cool if he rebounds a bit, and another dumb team makes him a substantial offer in free agency. I'll take whatever compensatory pick we can get.

There is no way to prove if the Steelers passed on Burns that he would be picked in round one. It's like Edmumds, if the Steelers didn't pick him, where would he end up being drafted? Anyway its clean swing and a miss on Burns. I'm more interested to see what Layne has to offer. I liked Burns video clips, workout numbers and conception level in college. They guy has good height and very long arms, a reason why he got his hands and broke up many passes. He could use an extra 5-10 pounds.

I hope not.

I think Kevin Colbert acknowledged the writing on the wall with Burns when he said (essentially) that his confidence was shot. Not a ringing endorsement. I feel bad for the guy in a way because of his family situation and obstacles, but he either needs to find a change of scenery or a new career path.
