Wild Card at Best

Wildcard at best is right. At best. We aren't mathematically out of it but realistically we are. We'd have to win 4,5 or probably 6 in a row after the bye to get back into the hunt.

With the Ravens going into Seattle and beating them today, I think we can all agree that barring injury to Jackson, they are a lock to win the division. That fumble by Juju pretty much defined our chances this year. Sucks that one play had that much impact...

That said; if we go on a run, we will pretty much have to win every AFC game we have left.

You're not taking into account that we have the shittiest division in football. Looking at our schedule, there is a very real possibility that the Steelers go 8-8 and that may be just enough to win the division. Sad ******* reality aint it?

Wildcard at best (and then losing that game) is Tomlin's ceiling even when everybody is healthy. WITH Ben, Bell, and AB most years we had to win the last game then wait the rest of the afternoon to watch for someone else to win or lose so we could get in the playoffs was about as good as it got. Agree, the division is so bad that 8-8 or 9-7 might win it but whoever wins, figure us or the Ravens, isn't good enough to get past the wild card round anyway.

only chance we have is winning the division. the Ravens are not for real. teams will figure out put. 10 guys up near line of scrimmage and stop 1 person.

I noticed that up 2 scores with just minutes left to play in the game, they were letting Lamar Jackson run around still. Buncha geniuses over there. Crown their ***!

We've done that with multiple players including our HOF QB and season weary RB on multiple occasions. In fact we have a "run em till their wheels fall off" coaching mentality. Just saying

We wont win a wildcard spot. Our best hope is the division crown, and then its on the road for the playoffs with no bye week. That's the best we could hope for.

That's not happening, I hate Baltimore like everyone else, but their defense will keep getting better this season, like they always do under Harbaugh, and while I don't think Lamar Jackson will be able to do this many seasons, this is the only season that matters. We have to go 6-2 to get to 8-8, they have to go 3-6 to get to 8-8

The rats offense is a gimmick. That qb isn't going to last long doing that bullshit. Which is fine by me.

They are like a few other teams right now. They are a defense heavy team with a running game. Jackson is not a long term QB but he may not have to be. The Steelers are doing the exact same thing except their QB isn't as mobile. Play defense, pound the rock, and throw play action passes.

Lamar Jackson has outrushed the entire Steelers team!!!!

Some gimmick

Here's how we do it, we beat the Dolphins and Colts at home, Ravens lose to the Patriots, now we're at 500 and only one game out. The next 5 games we go 5-2 while the Ravens go 4-3, losing to the 49ers, Rams and Bills, perhaps even the Browns in Cleveland, but there's at least 3 losses in their schedule from there. For us there is one tough road game in Cleveland but the rest of the games are winnable, as we'll be playing the better teams at home. That puts us tied with the Ravens when we face them in the final game for the division championship, and with enough wins to at least earn a wildcard spot. By then it wouldn't be a surprise if Lamar Jackson is hobbling and ineffective, making the game winnable.

There, my friends, is the bottom line.....possible but not likely.

sigh...yes, very unlikely. the responses i read in this thread almost make me want to cry. all this wonderful optimism that's really nothing more than delusional homerism

Hey, you can't post that, you're going to steal my name tag of "local pessimist"

**** the Ravens. I still think we win the North before it's all said and done. ****, we damn near beat those pricks, so the division is far from theirs for the taking. One game at a time going forward, but I have a feeling we will be playing for more than pride when we play them again.

Joe

Everyone said Seattle was going to beat them too. The Steelers have beaten two teams with a grand total of 2 wins between them. We still have more horrible teams to play but the rats are playing well right now. They could beat Buffalo or SF. They might give the pats*** a scare.

Cincy almost beat Seattle, Buffalo, Baltimore, Arizona, and Jax, so they aren't far from being 5-2, that's the difference between good teams and not so good teams, good teams find ways to win close games, not so good teams find ways to lose those games.

I'm still trying to figure out what kind of team we are. Are we a defensive team now or will our "O" liven up with MASON's return.............

I think we had a HOFer go down early and before our #2 could establish himself, he went down. Low and behold our #3 took the reigns and won against a low level team, both using his offensive prowess and our dominating defense. THEN the BYE week. We've never really gotten to establish anything so we don't really know what kind of team we are. Most teams QBs have 6+ games under their belt, ours has barely 2 1/2. I hope we can catch a wave and sail up fast and get established with games being played and injury bug squashed out of existence.

Ravens are going to lose games they are suppose to win too. The key is for us to win games we’re suppose to and then a couple we’re not suppose to win.. not an easy task. I will say, this is the best our defense has looked since 2011 or so, it’ll be up to them.

I'n not disagreeing there, but this season is far from over.

They look ok going into the 4th. This defense is almost identical to last year's. The only difference is they are much better at TOs and much worse in yards. This year's defense is 14th in points and 14th in yards. The 2017 defense was 7th in points and 5th in yards. And this defense has played against some horrible offenses. I'm not ready to crown them just yet.

That injury to Ben derailed our chances. Any wins that we get this season are a bonus.

While I agree. This does not free the greatest coach that ever coached. Mike Tomlin has NEVER had a losing season, by God! (Or is it Ben Roethlisberger who's never had a losing season? I get confused sometimes.)

As it now stands, the Steelers are 'supposed to win' one game. Miami. That's it. Literally. Every other game on the schedule is a game they hope to "steal".
