Why has Bell had a tough time running the ball lately?

I think this OL was way overrated this year. DeCastro and Pouncey not having their best seasons. LT is and will continue to be a problem with Villanueva whose just a stop gap. Plus they miss the blocking of Miller and Spaeth badly.

Pouncey has never been as good as he was his rookie year before he injured his ankle before the SB. DeCastro has been invisible for most of the year. I think the biggest problem with AV is his height, shorter DE are able to get leverage and a lower pad shelf and it makes it hard for him to seal the outside. Would love to see what he could do as a TE, but we have no one else to play LT. We sorely mill Heath's blocking abilities...probably more than his pass catching as well.

Watching bell last night every time he touched the ball he had a coffee and a cigarette looking for a hole to run through there's no way you going to get anywhere doing that every time you run the ball you're going to have to hit the holes quick sometime. It was like every time he ran the ball he did the same thing over and over. I am starting to think Bell is a bit of a flash in the pan.

He is becoming predictable which is giving defenses the time to close the gap. Reminds me of Mendenhall when he would spin into the hole and drive forward going backward into the hole.

I think it's a combination of several things. STUBBORNESS by the coaches. Sub par OL play. We really only have three legitamit starters. Gilbert at tackle, Pouncy at guard, Decastro guard. Bell is a thinking man's running back. He has great vision and it trying to make something out of what's NOT there. DWill with his physical style quick hole running wouldn't have done any better against the rats due to the stubbornness of the coaching. We can win but it will take a team effort and that includes both players and coaches so let's see if it can come together.

PS For those of you who think Bell was a flash in the pants or Dwill is better, you would have another thing comming. Bell is a VRY good running back and if this play calling or OL play would just step it up just a little, you'd see this fact displayed regularly.

That and they are very predictable. If I can call out when and where they are going to run before they do it.
I am sure a defense can.

They don't know who the hell they are. I cant fault the players so much as the coaching.

Last week they tried to play smash mouth with the Ravens for whatever reason.

I know Ben was coming back off injury but clearly the run wasn't working, and you could see Bell frustrated in the 3rd qtr. because he had no where to run & everyone in the world knew they were going to run.

He gets hit for a loss and they line up and run it again for a bigger loss.

They are just a bad football team right now.

people are trying to find out the reason why.

That's it. They are poorly coached and prepared.

Unmotivated, no depth, injured, bad drafting and player development, etc etc, etc,

Haven't played a complete game yet.

I will even go as far as saying a few of their early wins were more about what the other team did wrong not what they did right.

Truth hurts

Beause we are running up the middle everytime and the opposing team is putting 8 Men in the box.

Running to the outside means the TEs have to block. We what happened with that James missed his block and the guy put his helmet right on the ball causing a fumble.

A) every season we seem to start with about 6 injured or suspended "key players".

B) Bell is good and all, but he's not a mythic man-beast. We get so used to the idea that he's freaking amazing when in fact, teams probably just don't have as much tape on him as they need early on and as soon as they gather tape, he gets hurt.

C) ah who ******' cares. It's a game and they're sucking *** again due to " not living in their fears" which happens to look a LOT like living in my ******* fears by the way...

Steelers Film Room: Le’Veon Bell Creating Yardage, Making Plays

http://www.Invalid Link - Check SN ...om-leveon-bell-creating-yardage-making-plays/

All I know is we had the ball first and goal inside the ten and he didn't touch the ball one time. Our ******** coaches are killing this team, Haley is making Arians look like a genius. The ten yard losing reverse was fantastic, wasn't it?

Haley is the most overrated OC in the entire NFL. Left up to him (if he really called all the plays) we'd be the talent we have would be the least-utilized in the league. The ONLY reason the O is ever potent is when Ben goes no huddle and calls more of the plays. (But then we run into the problem of always going deep and not moving the chains in the process.) So with Todd, we get way too many bubble screen, trick plays and running Bell into the teeth of a D, just waiting for him. Zero creativity. Todd is terrible. And having a clueless head coach doesn't help matters. This team has been exposed as easy to beat. The D scares no one, the OL isn't all that great, AB can be contained, as we have no other threats. Hey-Bey is a one trick pony, Wheaton has been hurt ALL ******* YEAR and Bryant is dumber than a fence post. D Will, as I predicted, got hurt for most of the season. Ben can be great, but he also has games where he just sucks and seems to just go through the motions, as if trying to say, "Thanks for these dumb play calls."

By the way, how many coaches to not hire their own coordinators? Does MT hire or fire his? Nope. Why is that? They don't trust him to. MT was on record he was going to keep Uncle Brucie and Tricky Dickie, but neither were kept and the Todd hiring was pure Rooney, not Cool Shades.

Our coaches are all dumb as **** with game time and situational coaching. Every person at the table in the bar knew Elliott was getting the ball on that last play to get a couple yards maybe and center it for a FG attempt. Everyone but our DC and sorry *** defense. He should have been walked out of the building with all of his personal **** as soon as the last second ticked off. They've been an embarrassment.

And then they bench Jones which is supposed to make us think they are no nonsense and laying down the law. Other coaches/teams would have him off the roster by now. It took them how long to finally admit he wasn't cutting it? Oh, but that's because he was their heralded first round pick, so they couldn't they were not the "smartest guys in the room." The fans need to send a message.

I somewhat agree, but the reality is that there has been literally no one else to replace him with. Now, Dupree comes back, and Jones is taken out of the line up. I don't think that it's pure coincidence.

How do they do that Pops? You've been "sending a message" since you came on the Board and apparently no one is listening or cares. Maybe because always negative is usually not always right.

Now that you mention it, who was the last OC the Steeler fans liked ? If my defunct memory serves me correctly, there were only a couple that the fans took a cotton to at all. Ken Whisenhunt only lasted a couple years but left with his ears still connected and Mike Mularkey, our other TE coach promotion experiment was about the same...two years and done. At least Mularky kept it exciting.

The rest pretty much dodged eggs most of the time, especially Walton, Gailey, Arians and Gilbride.

Once regarded as one of the premiere offensive minds in the game, Todd Haley's recent past puts him among the middle of the pack when it comes to coordinators. I know this guys play calling doesn't impress me even a little bit.

Gilbride.....wow...it's been a long time. But instead of eggs, I thought he was avoiding punches....
