Why are so many teams trading on the cheap this year?

I've never seen player being traded for such low draft picks. Ha Ha went for a 4th round? He was a 1st round pick, and not a bust. Thomas to Texans for a 4th? Did
Denver already give up on the season?

Lions dish Tate for a 3rd? Seems low.

I don't recall any season where teams were letting good players go for so cheap. This just in: Pgh sat on their hands. As good as the Rams are, they STILL upgraded by getting Fowler for a 3rd, 5th.

Salary dumps. Players for picks open up cap space. Those picks are fixed costs per the rookie contract structure. These guys traded are costing a lot more money. They give teams cap flexibility

I haven't looked, but are all the teams having fire sales in need of cap space?

Lions, Pack, Jags, Broncs, etc.

High paychecks are making players expendable.

I understand, but are the Packers really more likely to win a ring without Ha Ha? I mean, they haven't given up on the season already, have they?

They must feel the guys replacing Ha Ha are just as good.

CHEAP prices and the Steelers did ZILCH......And there are players who were moved, that we could definitely use.

Unfreakin' believable

Ha Ha is a free agent at the end of the year and the Packers know they will not be able to resign him for what he is worth. They feel they have some good young and cheaper defensive backs. They also said they plan to be active in free agency next year so that would potentially cancel out any comp. pick for Ha Ha so they got what they could for a half year rental player.

Clinton-Dix is a 8 game rental. New contract after this year. GB has Josh Jones waiting. Thomas set to make 10 mil+ next couple years. Elway has younger receivers who are much cheaper he thinks are ready.

Tate was a surprise TBH. Some rumblings were that NE had their sights on him (and Clinton-Dix) but Belichick thought they were asking too much. NFLR had someone on that Philly swept in and grabbed Tate from NE when they upped the pick to a 3rd. In any case Belichick didn’t make any moves either. Guess he sat on his hands....

Those players went cheap because teams like the Steelers aren't dumb enough to give up multiple picks, 1st or 2nd picks. Plus Peterson wasn't available. NE & KC got no one. Looks like their GMs suck too...

I agree somewhat, but the only player I would have went after would have been Tate. I think Thomas is washed up, HaHa has not impressed me much, Cooper certainly wasnt worth a first. Dont know much about Fowler so cant comment on the value there. I wonder if Dallas tried to get Tate. Cooper, Tate, and Beasly would have been a good trio there.

Tate at 30 years old is not worth a 3rd. imo.

Even though BELL wasn't available, had he been you would have seen very similar offers. Those of you who think teams are going to give 2-1st rounders for him are slightly delusional. I bet he garners a 1st and 5th conditional or a 2nd and 5th conditional. GUESS what.......I'd take either of those in a heartbeat.

Tate is not what the steelers need. He's similar to JuJu and Washington, more of a physical guy. Steelers need a speed guy, a field stretcher. That's not Tate.

The guys reportedly on the block who would have made sense for the steelers would have been Desean Jackson or Devante Parker.

Tate has had 90+ receptions since 2014 and only didn't break 1000 yards once. I understand the need for a speed Wr, but we would have had 2 legit #1 WRs and a border line #1 with JuJu. I just don't see anyone being able to cover all 3 WRs + McDonald. We probably have a narrow superbowl window i think our would have been worth a gamble.

I think teams are realizing they are done and they would rather not wait for the compensatory pick.

But again, are they more likely to win a ring without him? Last I checked their seaon wasn't over, in terms of a run.

Is Hey-Bey on the roster? Why?

They really like Josh Jones and don’t feel there will be a drop off so why not get a draft pick. Jones was a second round pick who the Steelers really liked and brought in for an official pre-draft visit. I was surprised when the Packers picked him one spot before the Steelers pick when the Packers had Ha Ha and other needs. The Steelers ended up picking Ju Ju but I would like to know If the Steelers still would have taken Ju Ju if Jones was still available.

One other Steeler pre-draft visitor that year was Pat Mahomes.

Because analytics rules the NFL now.

Look, I like Tate, and he is a good receiver, but he is JuJu, and that isn't really a fit. You can bump JuJu outside, and if we picked up Tate, I'd do that, But JuJu is a better blocker and has more upside and is a size mismatch inside.

The best fit for us, for the price, was actually Josh Gordon. But the Pats got him. And even with him, they were still shopping for another receiver. So I guess Josh might not have it anymore?

Des is done, Cooper was too expensive, and Thomas is too slow, and is starting to trend down.

We're better off running personnel concepts with the players we have. Want to go quick? Use Switzer, Samuels, or Bell in the slot. Want to go big? Put McDonald in the slot. We're fine there. I'd be fine with some presnap movement putting McDonald outside over JuJu. That would give Ben some nice looks. Attack the inside with JuJu on a LB or outside size mismatch with Vance on an undersized CB. This is how you scheme to win ballgames.

I will also add that Hunter or Washington need to step up. We have a lot of football left. Hunter is doing the dirty stuff really well. His blocking is great, and he's springing guys downfield. He got 2 big first downs early to extend the drives, but he has to be consistent getting those deeper shots. Ben is finally getting the ball there. He just has to fight for them.

Cope I fully agree but seem to never see the scheming you suggest. Am i missing or just not paying enough attention to it? I'll watch a lot closer this week. It seems in the past the STEELERS OCs were slow in trying this stuff but I also think in-game adjustments tend to be put on back burner too. In my defense, I watch MOST games in paradise at a sports bar and this VERY PRETTY RedHead manager always grabs my attention--span--.

This post seems to assume we (in collective) wished we traded for a WR. I am not among that contingent. Help at ILB or CB would have been nice. Whether we use Burnt or Sensablow at one corner spot is scary as hell.

I thought your team got Josh Gordon.
