A lot of us have stated who we'd like to see taken at 1:24. Who is the one player you'd go absolutely bonkers if the Steelers took him at 1:24? Rules of the game are:
1. The player has to be someone who is slated to be a round 1 or early round 2 selection.
2. You must explain why the pick would piss you off.

Mine is Landon Dickerson - All those injuries man. And, while a lot of folks talk about the short-term aspect of not staying healthy, I'm also worried about the long-term affects those injuries have. Multiple teams have given Dickerson a medical grade of 3-minus, which is the equivalent of a C-minus. Two ACL tears and two major ankle injuries. Love his toughness and talent, but Dickerson is definitely a candidate for early retirement due to injury, the cumulative effect of prior injuries and/or arthritis. You don't waste a first round pick on a guy with a medical resume like this. No matter how talented he is.

Whose your guy?

I'm not sure I want any defender, the Steelers already have 10 players drafted in rounds 1-3 starting on defense (Heyward, Alualu, Tuitt, Watt, Bush, Highsmith, Haden, Sutton, Fitzpatrick, Edmunds) compared to just 7 on offense (Ben, Okorafor, DeCastro, Ebron, Johnson, Claypool, Washington). They need to invest in the offense and the three biggest holes on the roster are center, running back, and left tackle (in that order, IMO). A defender would have to be significantly better than an offensive player to make the pick (ex. Parsons).

As far as players linked to the Steelers, Dickerson's injuries worry me in the first and Samuel feels like a round too high.

Not sure there is a need pick I would go bonkers over. But wouldn't care for Dickerson with his injury past. Or a RT when a LT is needed. On the flip side Joker is growing on me, I also wouldn't hate Williams in 1. My favorite RB. Although I would be ok with Harris and to a lesser degree Et9. I like Horn, like Darrisaw, as well as Cosmi.I also wouldn't lose sleep over Humphrey who some might see as a reach at 24. Samuel yeah would be a hard pass from me.

If they take a rb in the first I will justifiably call them stupid until he is off the team in five years... first round rbs are luxury picks and you don’t win with them
I'm trying to talk myself into a running back because I have a feeling that is the direction they'll go. The drop off after the top 3 is pretty steep and there is depth at both center and tackle. Unless they address center, it won't matter who is at running back because they'll be getting blown up in the backfield. But back to your point, it is unlikely that a running back will get a second contract, but it is very unlikely given how Tomlin likes to run them until their wheels fall off. Given this team is going to have a hard time winning over the next 2-3 years, it seems like a waste.

Another position I don't want in the first is tight end. The Steelers just don't use the position enough to justify an early pick and it is a weak class outside of Pitts.

yeah... Ill root for whomever they take, but a first rounder is almost assured to start for several years even if they suck.... if they get a tackle or center or Db there....or even a qb....and they aren’t a total bust you are looking at a solved position for the next decade... a rb or center can be gotten lower than 1.24.....

Dickerson with 2 ACL's and 2 ankle injuries. I'd take him in Rd. 2 but not in 1. He has the talent but he's too risky.
The second might still be a little too risky especially when the Steelers seem to do well there. I prefer the 3rd. Not that he isn't a high talent.

Justin Fields will not last to 24, but if he does how do you not take him?
Mine would be Landon Dickerson, though I do not want Kyle Trask Either.

I want a better explanation of "he played at Ohio State" for why people don't like Fields. He checks just about every box you could imagine and should be in contention as the No. 1 pick, not being debated if he'll drop below 3rd.

I think FL was just trying to get a rise outta me. lol

bonkers has 2 sides...... crazy ecstatic ...positive and MAD >>>>negative

sooooo Trevor Lawrence .......... I would go crazy bonkers if we got him at 1.24
and Ben Roethlisberger would go BONKERS ( ala Mason Rudolph Pick) ..lol don't need anymore drama on this team

Seriously SteelBuckeye I would have to agree with you on Landon Dickerson...... and I am a BAMA fan......... Just too much risk at 1.24 .... love the guy and would take him later if need still exists and he is available. Rather see CREED Humphrey but like SLASH said that might even seem high at 1 24 ... so possible trade back to add draft stock I would consider. Attempting to land either the C or LT and one of the 3 RBs of choice would be sweet with the first 2 picks

I'd take Fields, just not at 24 ... this team has higher needs ... OL, C. Now, if you are happy to have Ben play behind what's left of our OL, then take Fields and draft OL next year for Fields to play behind.

Both of you have summed it up nicely but one thing............. If Lawence is there at 1.24.......... you take him and not worry about BEN's emotions.

Salute the nation

There is no bigger need for an NFL franchise than QB. If you get top 2 talent fall to No. 2 when your QB only has one year left, you take the QB 10 out of 10 times. You trade up for him if he gets in range.

The second might still be a little too risky especially when the Steelers seem to do well there. I prefer the 3rd. Not that he isn't a high talent.
I hear you on that. I don't think he'll last that long though so if they really want him, Rd. 2 would be the earliest I could stomach it but I would prefer Rd. 3 like you said.

Dickerson - too much injury history for a first round pick

Any RB - fix the OL and the RB should be plug and play. Steelers have had good run games with guys like Barry Foster, Eric Pegram, Merril Hoge, Bam Morris, Duce Staley, Willie Parker, Deangelo Williams, and even James Conner. Sure the best was Bettis but they got him for a low price trade.

That's about it for me. I'd be happy with just about any OL. I agree Mayfield is more like a rd 2 guy because he may have to move to G but i think he will be a good player so he could be a big help.

I hear people's concerns on QBs like Fields or Lance but at pick 24, i'm all in on that risk. They are raw and will need time to develop but there is no denying they both have elite skill sets.

JOK is a guy i'd be against because Bush is also small and i wouldn't want 2 small guys inside. JOK is a guy who needs to be used correctly. I don't have confidence in the steelers defensive coaches to be creative. JOK could be a big impact with his athleticism so it wouldn't be awful. My worry would be more on the coaches not using him correctly than on JOK himself.

Make it so.... Captain
Wasn't you and Sask that was pimping Claypool last year?

Who is yinz Huckleberry this year?

There may have been a small suggestion or TEN along the way about Claypool if I remember correctly.... eh

What are you looking for SLASHMAN
... a 1st round prediction of any player available
or something with some Canadian flavour .... like a Chuba Hubbard taken outa the cupboard before round 4 pick 129 adding to another Cowboy taken at OT in the first.
You could be Right T .... I say possible Left T .......... or we could both be Wrong ....... me likes Tevin Jenkins better than any RT or LT currently on this team

Name the game

Four more days. I have a funny feeling about this draft. Just an "itch" that says they're trading up again this year. Tomlin's extension, Ben's 1 year contract, plenty of $$ to get some key FAs next year (not a lot of them, but "key" ones) ... It all says they're not just looking at this year.
I could be wrong. I mean they pretty much keep **** close to the vest every year. But .....
