Who’s going to be first coach fired tomorrow?

he allegedly quit coaching due to health reasons. If he couldn’t take the stress of coaching Ohio State where he only has 2 or 3 games per year where his opponent even has a shot, then how can he handle coaching an NFL team?

if I’m Trevor Lawrence, I’m not happy either. I would want a coach that will develop me into an elite passer, not a coach who will make me a RB who throws.

Urban Meyer is an interesting choice. I always wonder how how these elite coaches translate when they don't get a roster full of 5-star athletes. It didn't work out too well for Saban, Kelly, Spurrier, etc. and I'm not sure Meyer is my top choice as the franchise hits the reset button with Lawrence. I suppose with the NFL shifting to college-style offenses more college coaches will make the jump.

As the article points out, there's a slim chance of Colbert going back to the Lions. If you're Detroit, it's absolutely worth asking.

Yeah for sure, I'd think Colbert would retire rather then move on to a team like Detroit.

I wouldn't mind Gase as OC, but i don't think Ben will want to learn another playbook at this point.

Interesting thoughts. We're all pretty tired of Finkner. I was thinking Gase might be worth a look if Tomlin does decide to go against type and replace him. I don't know about Ben and a new playbook but I would wonder about Ben and a new hard case of a an OC. From what I've seen Gase is supposed to be a "My way or Highway" kinda guy like Todd Haley was and Ben and Todd didn't really mesh too well as I recall. Ben has a lot of well earned leverage on the team and I think he wants a buddy as an OC, someone he can pretty much control. Just my opinion of course and not based on any personal knowledge of any of the participants.

if he was smart and I think he is, he'll be sitting on a beach in Hawaii with a drink with one of those little umbrellas in it before going to DET.

Just no. I would rather have Todd Haley back.

Jimmie Johnson was successful in both college and pro. Carrol is doing well in Seattle.

I hope we fire randy and hire gase he ain’t **** as head coach but mad genius OC. Beat us in playoffs with coaching up Tim Tebow, put up 200 yards rushing on us another time... he coaches up a balanced offense love to see what he could do with our talent. We got the line, receivers, we’ll probably draft a qb to compete with mason and a running back to complete with Connor... with that young defense and the team not being weighted down by ben’s contract, a good solid offensive coordinator like gase really could set things off... Future’s so bright...

Not a bad idea...

Gase was necessary. It wasn't just the record with him. Lynn, I'd give him one more. They have a promising young QB. I really think he could be good. But he is young and there were bound to be growing pains. I don't think the fire a coach every 2-3 years is a good model. Nor do I think keeping one well beyond his shelf life is either. I think the difference between the Packers and the Steelers should be studied carefully.

After this 4th qtr, it may be Pederson.

I can't believe that he did not put Hurts back in. Local media is KILLING him and want him out of town. Wentz is asking for a trade and refused to dress yesterday opting out of the game. hard to trade that money owed.

The questioning of Wentz started with the SB. Two starting QB's is one too many. If the fish keep Fitz they will end up the same in Miami. But they may well lose more games if they dump him. That writing was pretty clear on the wall.

Rank the head coach openings.

Cap space is from OTC based on a $176 million cap https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space/

Jacksonville Jaguars
-Top-100 Picks: 1.1, 1.22 (projected), 2.33, 2.45, 3.65
-Cap Space: $77.6 million
-Franchise QB: No, but are in position to draft Trevor Lawrence
-Other talent: James Robinson, DJ Chark, Laviska Shenault, Myles Jack, Joe Schobert. There are some good offensive weapons and some ok pieces on defense.
This is an awful franchise, but if they're going to turn it around, now is the time. They are in position to get a top QB, have young offensive weapons, tons of cap space, and a ton of top-100 draft picks. The AFC South is traditionally a pretty weak division.

New York Jets
-Top-100 Picks: 1.2, 1.25 (projected), 2.34, 3.66, 3.91
-Cap Space: $72.8 million
-Franchise QB: No, could build around Darnold, but more likely to draft Justin Fields or Zach Wilson
-Other talent: Denzel Mims, Mekhi Becton.
Five top-100 draft picks, position to draft Fields or Wilson, a franchise LT in place and a potential exciting young receiver in Mims. Buffalo is at the top of the division, but No. 2 is wide open. Jets have the resources to turn it around fast.

Atlanta Falcons
-Top-100 Picks: 1.4, 2.35, 3.68
-Cap Space: $24.4 million OVER
-Franchise QB: Yes, but on the decline. Matt Ryan is aging and they'll have to find a replacement soon--maybe even take one this year.
-Other talent: Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Grady Jarrett, Younghoe Koo
This is a team that's shown it can win. In fact, this year how many games did they blow? Cap space is an issue along what to do with Matt Ryan beyond his current contract.

Detroit Lions
-Top-100 Picks: 1.7, 2.41, 3.72
-Cap Space: $12.1 million
-Franchise QB: Yes, but on the decline. Stafford is a very good QB, but not one who can overcome a bad team. They'll be looking for a new QB soon unless they dramatically turn the roster around.
-Other talent: T.J Hockenson, Kenny Golladay (if they keep him), D'Andre Swift, Frank Ragnow, Jack Fox, Jesse James ;)
Another historically terrible franchise with a similar problem to the Falcons. What do you do with your aging QB?

LA Chargers
-Top-100 Picks: 1.13, 2.47, 3.78
-Cap Space: $31.7 million
-Franchise QB: Yes. There's a chance Hebert doesn't replicate what he did this year, but everything we saw shows he is a franchise QB.
-Other talent: Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, Joey Bosa
They have a young franchise QB with some exciting talent on the roster. 7 of 9 losses were by one score or less...though 5 of 7 wins were by one score or less. Still the "second team" in LA.

Houston Texans
-Top-100 Picks: 3.67
-Cap Space: $15.3 million OVER
-Franchise QB: Yes, Watson is a franchise QB who just had a great season on an awful team.
-Other talent: Laremy Tunsil, J.J. Watt
You have an elite QB but not much else to work with, no draft picks, no cap room, and your all-time great J.J. Watt wants out.

Jimmie Johnson was successful in both college and pro. Carrol is doing well in Seattle.

true, but both of them coached pro style even in college. The guys who have run college offenses have not fared well. Many of the college concepts are already part of the NFL now anyway so I don’t see the need to hire a college coach. The steelers are running a college offense now.

I want the steeler offense to look like what the Titans or Saints do. The core is a strong run game with play action passing. That is the most unstoppable offense there is or ever will be. When a defense has to defend both the run and pass and has to cover short and deep, they simply can’t.

If Meyer goes to Jax, does he take Fields over Lawrence? I know everybody has anointed Lawrence but Fields does actually have more upside. Fields has Mahomes type upside. My only concern with Fields is durability as a smaller frame player, but if he’s a pass first guy and only picks his spots to run then he can survive.

Gotta say these are the top two in this order. Jax you get to mold your guy, have lots of picks to surround him with and lots of money to fill in holes. Chargers QB may not be the guy you picked, but he is intriguing and you have some money to spend. Can't say as I would want to live in either JAX or LA, but would prefer Jax. It would be easy to look at Jets situation and say you get some picks and money to spend, but the NY fans are awful and the team does not have any sort of winning culture. You gotta look at the owner there and say hmmm. DET and ATL you have aging QB's with little talent around them. HOU has a good young QB, but the team is hurling towards a major rebuilt, you have one pick, and limited money. I would prefer living in HOU over DET or ATL and would go DET over ATL as I have seen both up close and personal.

Gotta say Daboll in BUF has a good chance. Done well with Allen and that offense.

The Chargers are dumb as ****. Their coach cultivated their brand new franchise QB and you cut him? This may set Herbert back.

This is Cleveland Brown stupid right there.

Bullfuckingshit. Lynn had to go. That ************ sucks, and the Chargers have sucked for multiple seasons under him now. They had, what, 24+ games the last two seasons where they lost by one score? And many of them via collapse/choke? Yeah **** that, Lynn can go play coordinator somewhere, I'm actually shocked the Chargers did the right thing. And Herbert is gonna be in this league a lonnnng time, he'll be just fine

There is occasionally a surprise coach firing or resignation between now and the end of tge season... one where after the end of year meetings the team wants changes they don’t want... id still watch Cinci and Philly... maybe a Dallas flare up

What is your take on him being a Steelers OC ?

I think Lyn lost his job a month or so ago when he told his team that they were eliminated from the playoffs when in actuality they weren't.
