Who is your "no, just no" guy in the 1st round?

# of receptions by the 3rd WR under McCarthy over his entire career:

21, 47, 33, 32, 50, 38, 49, 49, 38, 50, 60, 53, 59, 45, 39, 34, 31

McCarthy's 3rd receivers over the years, per pro-football-reference. 6-8 of his years only 2 WR were listed as starters, so not as much 11-personnel. Regardless, he wasn't drafting 1st rounders to fill the role.

Jalen Tolbert (3rd rd)
Michael Gallup (3rd rd)
Randall Cobb (2nd rd)
Jarrett Boykin (UDFA)
Jordy Nelson (2nd rd)

It's insanity that people want to spend a first rounder on a guy that will catch 25-50 passes, some even want to trade up for it.

Draft day cannot get here soon enough.

It’s draft season…it’s all about insanity

A good class becomes a bad class as the “experts” have too much time to pick them apart and then guys “shoot back up boards” later as the week of the draft hits

Like this every year

It’s just talking heads, that largely know minimal more actual info than the astute fan, chasing their tails for weeks on end and trying to have continuous talking points.

Like this every year

The fans get so crazy too in the waiting game…
Did anyone notice Will Howard went into the HoF this offseason? Highly unusual for a guy who has yet to take a single nfl snap.

The problem is length of time between end of season and draft, social media and “full time” football guys. Just trust your eyes if ya watch a lot of ball and take advantage of some kayaking, hiking, surfing, jamming…whatever your pastime is and tune out the bobble heads.

They’ll circle back to almost where they started

Like this every year.

What you said doesn’t contradict or provide a significant counter argument to my point or the general theme. Regarding the last segment, you missed a key phrase in my statement. I didn’t engage in any sort of statistical cherry pick. When considering active players, you omitted a significant name at the top of that list. If you’re going to be slick or wordy, “you better at least be good or better” than the person you’re attempting to contradict. On that note, I’ve had enough of this place, so, goodbye.
Yaaaay!!!

That is exactly what I think as well, Slaine. By pick 21 ...

Almost, I would say up or down but they won’t trade out of the first. Why? Because that one more year is desirable.

And Steelers did a decent job shoring up depth. They need quality more than quantity.

Now after one everything is on the table trade away a pick(s) for one round higher. And or use them to trade up for quality in whatever desired round.

How I see it at least….

We don't have the juice to trade up more than a couple of spots. And for who? Maybe if a top 12 guy falls to 18 somehow. Maybe.

Meanwhile, if you're sitting at 21 (likely) and one of the top 2 OGs in the draft are there (likely), bring him to the stage!
The Steelers have a ton of ammo and those 2027 picks are going to be worth $$$ to teams. I'm not sure there are any guys worth trading up for once the top 8-10 are off the board.

It's all down to whether someone slips for whatever reason. Or if the Steelers view one of the tackles as a genuine left tackle option. Maybe Max Iheanachor makes it to them once the run of tackles starts.

I think IF we draft someone with a decidedly different skillset than what we have now they will get more than simply WR3 splits versus a Boston who is just a long term replacement for one the guys we have.

OT Protecer great size but abvout said carrying 20 LBS of bad wieght could be future replacement for Jones if his injury is more serious than expected.

Concepcion. I like the kid in his interviews, but I've seen him play and those hands are just pretty scary. It doesn't suddenly get easier to hang on to the ball in the NFL.

I have not seen Concepcion much at all. You made a very good point, however. If he has trouble catching the ball, he is not a 1st round guy. A guy with tools who is still working on catching the ball is a 3rd or 4th round guy, like Lance.

Tyson's injury history is BRUTAL. Not touching that.
Just the same they were different injuries. I won’t say that overall you wonder if that will continue ..freak injuries. Who knows? I will say Hines Ward should be able to give some insight to his physical makeup. The Steelers medical evaluation will give insight.

Then we know they have had a decent level of success lately with players that had a certain medical risk level.

Still round one you will get those risks microscoped.

I will say usually the Steelers don’t have access to that talent level picking in the 20s on the norm.

If and that is a big if he falls to the Steelers we have to trust their evals. If they pass on him or ultimately select him. I won’t be pounding the table one way or the other.
