It goes without saying that Ben, Bell and Brown have to do what they do...who else has to step up for this team to get back to where they belong?

5. Bud Dupree - needs to stay healthy and bring consistent pressure from his side
4. Ryan Shazier - when healthy he can do it all. He needs to stay on the field and dominate the inside
3. Burns/Davis - both need to make a second year leap and solidify themselves as legitimate starters on one of the best teams in the league
2. Martavis Bryant - Hopefully his pot days are behind him. HE is what we wished Coates was last season, a beast with speed, a legitimate deep threat and big red zone target
1. Offensive Line - Ben can not hit on deep passes from his back. They have to keep him upright and continue opening holes for Bell

I am going to assume that the standard is what was set last season, so I'll go with who has to play better this year for the Steelers to advance even further.

5. Ryan Shazier - Shazier is terrific, yet I think he has the ability to play like the DPOY. This could be that season.
4. Artie Burns - It's been awhile since the Steelers had a legit shutdown cornerback. He had a solid rookie season and needs to build on it.
3. Bud Dupree - Year three for pass rushers is the year I expect things to click. Time for him to develop into at least an 8-10 sack player this year. More importantly, I would like to see him consistently get pressure on the quarterback.
2. Martavis Bryant - Bryant is in the doghouse for letting the team down last year. When on the field, he's arguably the best playmaker in the league. I expect he comes back in full force and would love to see him reach the 10 touchdown mark.
1. Ben Roethlisberger - Home Ben is fine. In fact, he's excellent. He needs to do better than 9 TDs and 8 INTs on the road and only 3 TDs to 4 INTs in the playoffs won't cut it. The team will only go as far as Ben takes them and he took them a long way last year. He needs to be even better if they want to reach the ultimate goal.

Largely you could replace good with healthy. Burns or maybe possibly Dupree could have step backs but everyone on the list is a fairly proven commodity.

Defense needs to bring it. That playoff game against Miami has shown tons of promise.
Build upon that and it should be a great season.

The offensive weopons are there. The healthier Ben can be, the better. It feels like every season, a key player on offense goes into the post season limping and scraping by on duct tape. Ben gave this team a good shot last season, losing Bell really hurt though

good/healthy...that is why I mentioned healthy in some of them.....

all on my list "should' be good...but as young guys you never know if they will take the expected next step in their development and be the players we expect them to be. If they do, this will be a fun season to watch.

Oh and Ayers needs to run a few PR all the way back......

Knock, knock..."Mr. Dupree? We're ready for your closeup."

I truly hope that Davis excels at the KR position and Ayers takes over PR duties, Ayers really doesn't need to take several to the house, but if he can help flip the field now and then I will be pretty happy

If Dupree plays 16 games I cannot see him not having a big season. Big, fast, strong. I find linebackers and defensive lineman types kinda are what they are. If they look good, barring injury they are good. DBs can have mental things happen. Lose confidence. Burns or Davis could have sophmore step back easily.

Dupree
Shazier
Bell
Bryant

have to be available down the stretch.

I know we can say the same about a lot of other players, but for one reason or another these listed players haven't been available down the stretch. Whether it is from being injured, suspended, or ineffective due to not being 100% from a injury.

Better depth will help with this.

As in your youth TJ,Conner,Juju, and Sutton to a lesser degree. As well as the free agent depth brought in.

the obvious ones of course. the guy I am thinking of is Hargrave.

I know you're taking Ben out of the equation, but I agree with the guy who said Road Ben needs to step his game up. If Home Ben is his usual self and Road Ben is closer to Home Ben than he was last year, we're in good shape

And I think Martavis is the ultimate x-factor. Get him going like we all know he can, and EVERYTHING opens up. You can't just constantly harass AB with two or three defenders. So he starts to feast. Which will allow JJSS and Eli to feast when those two get all the attention. Martavis and Road Ben will determine the fate of the 2017 offense.

On D, I agree Burns, Davis, and Dupree are at the top of the list. I think Shazier is a sure thing as long as he's healthy and will be considered the leagues best ILB by the end of the season. But just as important as these guys is TJ Watt. Yes he's a rookie, but from all accounts, he's picking things up quickly. If he can be at least a 7-8 sack guy, take pressure of Deebo and allow him to come in and be a terror in short spurts and in the playoffs, our D is going to be god damn scary.

If all these things happen with consistency, and we have good luck health-wise, this team could go 16-0. Of course that's far-fetched but that's just the kind of potential these guys have and how much I believe everything will hinge on a handful of guys

The key will be for all 53 to improve, stay healthy, and out score their opponent each game.

Oh, wait, I thought Coach started this thread.

When does camp start?

1) The nickel CB, whoever that may be. Either Sensabaugh, Sutton or Gay has to be able to cover the slot if our D is to keep moving in the right direction.

2) Bud must start smoking some QBs, 3rd year...it's time to unleash the fury

3) Vince Williams...an expanded role will mean he needs to fill a much bigger pair of shoes, and a clown size pair of shoes if/when Shazier goes out for his 2-4 weeks of injuries.

Most all of our players have done this and been there before.

The player that "Has to have a good season" is TJ Watt.

3 years of waiting on Bumblefuck Jarvis to perform have left us at the point where we need to Peak and win,, But we are playing a 39 yr old OLB. We need pressure on Brady. We need TJ to be good. Maybe not by first game,, but by the 3rd or 5th yes.

I'd like to see Bell not miss a bunch of games due to injury for a change.

agree with Aggie, if we are talking about stepping up, not staying healthy, then Dupree, Burns and Davis. On offense I'd say the slot WR has to provide enough help

I don't know when Ben became a bad visiting game QB. He excelled on the road in his earlier seasons.

The playcalling has to improve both on O creating mismatches, and on D creating pressure. This will be the biggest aspect to our success.

Salute the nation
Agreed, but also team lesdership. Take for example the game in Miami and to a lesser extent Baltimore. There has to be accountability among the players where they come prepared for every game. That is your locker room. The coaches have some part of that in setting the tone and culture but so do the players.

Colin Holba

Hella yea. As high as he was drafted in comparison to his position of play, he better have an outstanding ******* season...........(he will)
