Two weeks til D-Day. Every year there is at least one and usually more player(s) that were widely predicted to be first round picks who fall out of the first round entirely. Who is your pick to have that dubious honor this year?

I'm torn, but I think that Harold and Orchard have a chance to move into the first round. That means that someone is going to be displaced. You could rationalize one of the WRs or fringe OTs, but I just keep coming back to Marcus Peters or Landon Collins. Of the two, my head says Collins because I think he's a little over-hyped as a first round talent due to the weak Safety class. However, I'm going to go with Peters because I think teams will be put off by his incident(s) of insubordination.

There is no way that Peters drops out of the first round. No way. It is a pass happy league and if you don't defend back there you pretty much have no chance to win a Lombardi. Personally, that is my first choice for the Steelers at 1.22.

Could've said almost the same thing about Tuitt last year. And yet, there he was waiting for us in the second. The thing is that kids you don't think will drop (or some you have an inkling will) drop out of the first round every year. I think Peters is a candidate.

How about Marcus Mariotta? Probably not because of the Eagles but i could see him being a guy that gets passed because teams see a guy like Hundley as just as good a prospect.

Maxx Williams - He didn't test very well and i keep hearing that he is turning off a lot of teams with his attitude. His dad played in the NFL so he may have an entitled attitude. There will be several good TE prospects to be had in Rd 2 and 3. Teams looking for more offense will likely be more impressed with the top WRs than Williams.

True, but I see no scenario where he gets past the Ravens at 26. Their secondary needs help almost as bad as ours does and he fits the mold for a Ravens player.

Jalen Collins nor Marcus Peters are falling out of the first.//

CB's have become the flavor d'jour- So the top 3 (Waynes, Collins, Peters) will all be gone by round 1.

I was thinking something similar so based on that there will be at least 15 guys that fall.

It's the curse of too many mock drafts / months of draft hype. Every year it's the same, 45 guys who absolutely will be gone by pick #33.

And then there are the guys who are projected as rounds 2-4 in all the mocks who end up dropping to the 7th round or become UDFAs. They usually have injuries or character flags that fans don't know about, but it's always funny to follow this board as guys beg for us to take so and so in round 3, then round 4, then round 5....and the guy ends up undrafted

And that's before you throw in the guys who previously had a second round grade that "sneak" into the first. An example I'm seeing on some of the mocks/rankings is Byron Jones of UConn.

We know there are character dings on Peters, the DUI issue with Williams and Collins has only 10 starts on his resume and has recently had surgery on his foot. These are all issues that "could" lead to them dropping.

Also, the Depot has an article about Ike Taylor saying we will select Collins at 1:22. That's usually the kiss of death for a prospect going to the Steelers. lol I don't think Ike has ever gotten one of these right.

I am going out on a limb and say Winston has a chance to fall out of the first. Far shot but what if there's something in his character we don't know (hard to believe) and the girl he raped is filling charges in civil court so who wants that drama on their team right off the bat.

I would say Danielle Hunter from LSU could sneak into the first round. Physically he looks like a greek god and character wise I hear he's a freaking saint. I could see someone looking at him and saying in two years I can have the next JPP and it will only cost me the 20+ something pick.

That is going way out there on a limb. Winston is a QB in a bad QB draft. I read before that neither Winston or Marriota wants to attend the draft. Why? Both fear being stuck in the green room. With the civil case, I do think Winston drops a few slots. He might end up a Redskin or Jet.

I think someone takes a shot at him because he's a true QB talent but if there's more about his character that we are not privy to I could see a huge slide. If I am a NFL GM and I even think about taking Winston I am hiring a person to dig up dirt and follow him around to see how many more skeletons are in his closet. But that being said I don't doubt someone before the end of the first round takes a chance on him.

Peyton Manning ... dropped his whole ***, balls, nuts and penis on the face of the TN team doctor (female) and was still picked number one. Now Peyton didn't add to that "mistake" by stealing crab legs, yelling obscenities in the student union and shooting out windows with a bb gun. However, I'm sure that Peyton, like most of us, was involved in some other escapades that would not have reflected well on his character had they been made public.

What I'm getting at is, if teams view Winston as the most NFL ready talent in the QB class, he won't get past TN and Whisenhunt at pick 2.

Perhaps. But if they find that what is public is just the tip of the ice berg I could see him sliding. Like I said I am not privy to all the information that has been collected on Winston but just from what I know from the media it is a enough for me not take him in the top ten

I'm not saying I'd want him on the Steelers. I'm just saying that in a QB driven league with a weak crop of QBs outside of him an Mariota ... he will be picked early by a QB needy team. More than likely #1 by TB, if not then either TN makes the pick for themselves at #2, or they trade it to some other QB needy team for a few picks.

Like I said I went out on a limb but it also would not shock me one bit if he slid. If there's something out there I don't know about or if Tampa just says screw it we don't want the baggage and drama that WILL come with this pick. Personally, I think if Tampa passes his next best shot of being drafted is Chicago.

Not knocking your opinion, especially since all I asked was who people thought would be the ones to fall. Just trying to get a read on what got you to that opinion, and I think I have.
1. The "issues" that point to at best immaturity and at worst a potential criminal.
2. The media circus that may come with such.

It will be interesting to see who, of the names we've put out there, actually does fall out of the first round.

Immaturity, yes. Criminal, yes. He's a proven thief and now being charged with a civil lawsuit for rape. He's more than immature but the question is has the nfl teams decided he's moved past that. Personally I think he is the next Jamarcus Russell. Million dollar arm with a ten cent brain. I guess we will see 5 years from now if I am right.

Hmmmm ... I can name another professional QB accused of crimes of a sexual nature, but not indicted, who was charged in a couple of civil lawsuits. That QB was immature also. Would you say he was a criminal? Did he become a Jamarcus Russell? Personally, I would have used Ryan Leaf as the example since he's the criminal and not Russell. Russell was lazy and undisciplined; two traits that as far as football goes, Winston has not displayed according to his coaches.

Personally I think that regardless of our personal opinions on whether Winston is immature, a criminal or a combination of both, some team (probably Tampa) will pick him early in the first round. After all, Peyton Manning went #1 overall and Greg Hardy has found a place to call home.

And after that, you're right ... we'll see what happens.

And if you remember the Steelers were about to release said two time winning and youngest ever to win a super bowl quarterback and proven NFL commodity. So you tell me if this would have made the Steelers reconsider drafting Ben in the first round if he had these transgressions happened before the draft. And Ben has never been accused of being a thief, there's video evidence of Winston being one.

Will Winston fall to round two? Probably not. But I personally wouldn't have him on my board until round 3 because you know he's bringing baggage and probably more problems off the field once he gets that big payday. I don't think all NFL teams will do that because they will see the talent and think they can change him. Hey, apparently it worked for Peyton and so far it has worked for Cam but for every one of them there's two Jeff George's or Russells of the world.

Never said Ben was accused of being a thief. Would it have made the Steelers reconsider drafting Ben? I believe it would have. I also believe he would have still went in the first round. The thing that I was getting at, and which you kind of hit on is that some NFL team will always look at "talent" versus "character" and think "We can change/help him". They'll look at the risk/reward and decide it's worth the risk. For some it works out. For some it doesn't. Just as some guys come into the league with squeaky clean reps and are later found out to be damaged goods.

Look, I've said I think Peters has a chance to fall out of the first and he has, in my opinion, less issues than Winston. My reasoning is that I believe that if it wasn't for the PR hits, etc. most of these teams would take a guy with a history of criminal behavior who is coachable over a guy who has been insubordinate with coaches in the past to the point that he was actually kicked off a team. Again, that's just my opinion and we will see how things work out in 12 days and for the rest of their careers.

Ike might be deliberate with his misdirection

The issue with Winston might be quite a bit different than with Ben. There is no way to know until the trial or a settlement is reached. One thing that may be hanging over him is the suspension possibly by the roger as the justification is all over the place for these. It will be hard to tell what teams are going to do regarding this and some teams may decide to wait for next years 1st round to pick from a deeper class. I suspect that many of these teams need lots of players besides a quarterback and they may go in another direction

Anything is possible but I still see Winston going to TB. Teams aren't known for waiting, especially when it comes to potential franchise QBs. TB may screw it up and win too many games next year. I'd be shocked if they didn't take Winston.
