Who do you want from the below players that might be available at pick #28.

If we get Bell to sign and extend, I go with Harrison.
if we cannot get Bell to sign and extend, I go Michel.

Isn't Michel though of as more of a second rounder? I guess if early second round it isnt much of a reach.

I'm with you. I think Rudolph is a project, but would be the replacement for Ben in 3 years. Not a sexy pick, but one that franchises do that want to win over time.

And true Gesecki is a receiver first, and would have to learn how to block at this level.

Rudolph is the one I dont want. I believe you can get that guy next year, the year after that or whenever. Ill take Evans, Guise
I think Van Esch will be a Steeler.

I love what the Steelers did by bringing in Bostic & Burnett to plug some immediate holes.

This now really opens up the draft for them, in my view, that they don't have to reach for any particular position. I think all bets are off who they pick at #28, or possibly move up or down. Colbert is a master at hedging his bets.

I pray this will be a year where a big name, blue chip prospect falls to us. Nothing would shock me at #28, anything from a TE, QB, RB, LB, DT or S/CB. Heck, if a good enough top shelf OG is still on the board, that may even be the pick as Ramon Foster won't be around forever. If not, this may be a good year to move out of the first round altogether and add another pick or two along the way, then double down on bringing in prospects up and down the defense at various positions.

and a WR but yeah anything is possible.

Steelers just do what you do BPA. Just please no OLBers that slid due to ****** combine performances. But looking at the prospects I don't see that at 28 this year looking at the who is who's.

Yes. I think we should trade Le'Veon for him. Why hasn't anyone suggested this?

Oh we've had this discussion before...ahem...

Dri Archer - Remember he was a conditional pick and some of us considered him good value where he was pick...

Show of hands, who expected the Steelers to pick Shazier, Dupree or say DeCastro over the past few drafts? That's the type of draft I think this will be, with the 28th pick. I'm preparing for a name none of us are particularly thinking of right now.

Having said that, I hope one of the top ILB's or S's drop to us, that's a no brainer.

curious if they would pick a shut down corner if one as sitting there too................

I had our pick as Zeitler. can't believe the Bungles passed on DeCastro and he fell in our laps! That was awesome!!!

I always get a little depressed this time of the year, doing mock drafts in April. It seems the talent pool dries up quickly after the first two rounds or so.

So to comfort myself and fellow Steeler fans who may think we need to find our studs at the top of the draft, I present the following list:

Round Overall Pick
7 Brett Keisel (DE) 242
7 Kelvin Beachum (OG) 248
6 Tunch Ilkin (C) 165
6 Greg Lloyd (LB) 150
6 Antonio Brown (WR)* 195
6 Vince Williams (LB) 206
5 Mike Webster (C) 125
5 Craig Wolfley (G) 110
5 Barry Foster (RB) 128
5 William Gay (CB) 170
4 Aaron Smith (DE) 109
4 Ivan "Ike" Taylor (CB) 125
4 Martavis Bryant (WR) 118
4 John Stallworth (WR) 82
4 Earl Holmes (LB) 126
3 Mel Blount (DB) 53
3 Mike Merriweather (LB) 70
3 Joel Steed (NT) 67
3 Max Starks (OT) 75
3 Joey Porter (LB) 73
3 Mike Wallace (WR) 84
3 Hines Ward (WR) 92

ps - a little trivia, had no idea our new DL coach Karl Dunbar was drafted by the Steelers in the 8th rnd of the 1990 draft.

DeCastro was definitely a run-to-the-podium type selection. Never thought he would fall that far, but knew the Steelers wouldn't pass him up.

The Steelers need to hit on one of their top draft picks. From 2003-2012, they selected 7 Pro Bowlers in the first round and another Super Bowl MVP. Since then, they've had Jarvis Jones (bust), Ryan Shazier (Pro Bowler), Bud Dupree (average), Artie Burns (average so far), TJ Watt (solid rookie year). You expect to get the guys who help carry the team in the first round and you want them to be very good because of the extra year on their contract. Let's hope we get someone closer to a Shazier or Watt than a Jones.

I'll give you my fictional guy
6'6"
365lbs
315 bench press -56 reps
40 yard dash -4.39 sec
Vertical leap- 52 inches
Photographic memory
IQ- 215
From a small farm in western PA
Has never played football.

Steelers sign him as street free agent after draft. Team goes undefeated.

Not to mention:

UDFA - Donnie Shell (DB)

I’d take Payne in a heartbeat. I think he could be stout enough to hold the middle but versatile enough to play DE.

He will be a stud.

Payne or Taven Bryan are my choices for first round...

If there gone I like Nwosu from USC...

I keep telling myself, I don't care about the draft this year.

It's not working.

There is only one or two people i would get excited about and neither one drops out of the top 10. Barkley and Smith. I guess Edmunds, too,

After that, and all the way down to 28? Meh.

In normal years, i only care about the first three rounds anyway. I don't, and won't watch enough college football to see that player X in the 4th is better than player Z. If there were 3 or 4 people to look at, i might go check them out to see who was better. Sometimes i've gone to several mocks to see who they have available at our pick in the later rounds and check a few at a certain position, but not even that, this year.

We may have been hit or miss in Rd 1, but we've doing well in Rd 2, and that is much harder for an over 500 team to do over time:

JuJu - great rookie year
Davis - 2 year starter with potential
Golson - Injured out of football
Tuitt - Steal and great player
Bell - Best back in the league
Adams - Out of football
Gilbert - Starting RT and highly rated
