Be a franchise QB?
Sorry guys but I truly believe we are running out of time for Mason to prove he can be a franchise QB. Maybe I’m overlooking something obvious, but don’t franchise QBs typically at least flash by now? Have some type of “it” factor that make you excited about having them back there, make you look forward to the next X number of years with them as the QB?

Sorry but I feel like Mason has had plenty of time to demonstrate he can be the future for us but has not. His best games are when he safely dumps off and lets the defense do the work. His deep shots only work when wide open (part of this is on crappy receiver play too, to be fair).

Today he was flat out brutal. Some of those INTs were just, pure and simple, Nathan Peterman-esque. I believe tonight told us a lot about who Mason is.. some of it good (like standing up to bullies and being a tough SOB) but a lot of it not so good. He is absolutely terrible at feeling the rush, cannot create space for himself in the pocket (which is a must), and processes things incredibly slowly. Not to mention he is painfully inaccurate on short yardage/tight window throws. You just have to be able to consistently hit those and keep chains moving.

I hate to say it but I think I’m out of patience with respect to “waiting for him to develop” into a franchise QB. A true franchise QB would not still have so many red flags and open questions at this point.

Quack quack *****. Get better soon Ben

Yea. I'm losing confidence with Rudolph. He isn't accurate enough . I like the guy, but we need a better option at QB.

I know nobody will agree with me, and i can't believe i am saying this, but i would take a look at bringing in Landry Jones. He sucks, but he is better than Mason and knows the playbook.

Dink, dunk, interception. Time to start Duck?

I was certain as soon as the turnovers and defensive scores stopped, Rudolph would be exposed. His accuracy even on the short passes leaves a lot to be desired. And he’s fumble prone.

With Rudy in there we get few yards as an offense.

Unfortunately Mason is regressing. The book isn't completed yet mind you, but the cover isn't attractive. I don't even mind the dink and dunk but when you are missing easy 3rd and 1s and you are slow to diagnose anddddd then cave and hand out INTs like they are candy. It is time to see if someone else can spark the team. After the first drive after halftime he should have been benched.I am not ready to title his book, but regardless like any other position a coach has to know when a spark is needed.

Plenty of places you could have typed that no reason to make a new thread lookatme. Doesn't matter if you are correct when you love you some agenda. Very predictable coach. Your chest pounding is what gets you ridiculed tiny Tim.

How’s your grey matter doing? I don’t care what you or others think. I made a prediction and it was correct. We have no offense with Rudy.

Who would you start next week?

Plenty... Drew Brees was abysmal in his third year. The chargers have up on him, drafted Rivers, then it clicked
Tom Brady had a lot of the same knocks on him the Rudolph does right now including not having magnificent arm strength.... his third year(second starting) he had a 6.3 ypa, went 9-7 and missed the playoffs. Plenty of people thought rodgers was going to bust cause he wasn’t nfl ready coming out of the draft... he sat for years behind favre working on his reads...

Last night was the first time the pressure got to Rudolph and he looked horrid... but no one is getting open, there are tons of drops, the only true deep threat caught his first pass of the season last night, route running isn’t really precise, we have no run game at all, and the oline takes turns allowing immediate pressure.

They needca high end qb coach to work on footwork for mason... thats a must... we have none because ben didn’t need it.

Mason had a horrible night, and eventually that was going to happen. 90% of first year starters blow monkey balls... we should have just kept it moderate instead of telling him to pass 50 times against abetter pass d than run D...

While Rudolph isn't looking good, neither is Fichner, the wr's, the rb's. I look at the HC to correct shortcomings like this. Perhaps this is too big a problem for Tomlin to overcome.

Payton Manning, Troy Aikman, Bradshaw all looked bad in their early games. Mason started his 7th game last night. He took some good steps vs. the Rams, last night he was really bad last night, especially trying to lead them from behind in the 4th quarter in obvious passing situations. Aikman made a great point about his footwork against the rush, that hasn't improved at all since college.

I do think its worth mentioning Mason is playing with a bad offense and a bad play caller, much like an Aikmnan early on. I'm not defending how he played last night or comparing him to Aikman, Bradshaw or anyone of that level tho.

No QB we have or that we could get makes them any better than a wild card team at the absolute best.

They might as well let Rudolph play a few more games minimum, be sure there is a full eval on him. I know its hard to watch, but I think we forget Duck only threw yhe ball down the field like 3 times vs. the chargers anbd one of those passes was a horrible pic that gave the chargers a chance to win that game. Duck can have the the last 2-3 games of the year if Rudolph still struggles, and **** 32 year old kneeling ***** Kaep

I've reserved judgement on Mason up to this point. I hoped/assumed he would steadily improve, but I no longer have hope for him at all. I just don't think he's capable. I'm not blaming him for last night though...Our receiving corps was not good to begin with, then we lost 2 of our top 3. Connor, who was obviously not ready to return, went out, and the O-line was awful. And I am yet to be convinced that the coaching staff is actually designing a game plan that plays to Mason's strengths other than letting him throw WAY too many long/low percentage passes. BUT...I would have expected to see at least a couple of flashes of potential...never did.

THe reality is...if the Browns didn't kill themselves with all those penalties on our lone TD drive...it would have been a shutout.

I read your initial post earlier this morning and was going to agree with you. Then I get to my office, and read the gem i quoted. Maybe you don't care, but **** like that is why people don't like you. People come here and discuss football, and you come here crowing about being right proving how smart you are. And to act as though you are the only person that figured it that way. Lots of people said the same thing.

I know you don't care. That is why nobody should say anything in your defense when posters slam you. If you read in the threads you would have known the answer to your question.

Mason isn’t very good but working on a short week with little time to prep really hurt him too. A young QB like him needs practice reps to go through the game plan. That WR group on the field after Diontae left was the worst in the NFL by far... we still somehow had a chance to tie. Meanwhile browns with a totally healthy offense and needed gifts from our offense to score.

When you have Holton and a practice squad guy activated 2 days ago as your main wr's you are in a bad position. When nix is on IR, Snell is out, Connor is out and you only have jaysam, Edmunds who has been a healthy scratch most of the season, and practice squad guy taking snaps in the run games, you're in a bad position.

We can put some of this on the defense, going down 14 pts. Having to throw to come back. Put pressure on Rudolph. Losing his main receiver and starting rb didn't help.
Can you imagine fichtner on the sideline trying to figure out what plays he can run with so many package personnel out of the game. Anyway I don't give up on him yet. I seen our sb winning franchise qb **** the bed plenty of times, and it wasn't his his first year starting either.

put Ben in there in the 2nd half and even he struggles. throwing to Washington, Holton, and Jones does not end well for any QB. MR is not Ben nor will he ever be, but in a system that realizes that , he can be successful.

I don't know BLITZ, the browns were trying to hand us that game. You put BEN in there and I bet we get the W.

so sick of hearing the comparisons to Brees, Manning, Brady, Ben, it's ridiculous.
1. Those guys all showed flashes early in their career, made some throws that made you say damn.
2. It was so much tougher to throw back then, the NFL is geared towards passing and much easier on QB's. The last time I looked there were 11 QB's with a 100 or more rating, and two guys at 99.7, one being freaking Jacoby Brissett. In the early 2000's when everyone wants to compare Mason to, it was an accomplishment to get to a 100 rating. 2005 only 2 QB's finished the year with a 100+rating.
3. I don't care who the WR's are, you can still tell if a ball is underthrown, which almost all his passes over 25 yards are. 3rd down throw to Samuels, the one the LB broke up, that ball was behind him, if he puts it in front of him the LB can't get to it. I said during the game, he throws a great PI ball because every pass is underthrown.

Do you not remember the 2015 playoff game at Denver? No Bell, no AB our WR corp was Bryant, Wheaton, Coates, Bey. Running backs were Touissant and Todham.

He threw for 339 yards against the best defense in the NFL, that same defense that shut Brady and NE down the following week and the same defense that destroyed Newton in the Super Bowl
