What's up with Heyward?

Maybe because teams are running away from his side or maybe because the Steelers are asking him to contain more and sending the blitz from other angles? But, I assure you just because you don’t see the stats you looking for doesn’t mean he’s not being effective.

You understand teams are going out of their way to block Cam. That's why Tuitt has been better. Cam also drew multiple holding calls the last two weeks.

No one seems to like Coach......unless he runs this thing why doesnt the moderator just ban him? Seems eternally negative and annoying. Must have been dropped as a baby a lot.

DUDE, if you don't realize this I'll spell it out.................. It takes all kinds of posters, good, middle range and not so good. You may classify one as bad yet another may classify same one as good. Your post here could be considered CRAP by many and GOLD by others. I personally like many of Coaches post(s), just not all of them. I'll take his and many more others as those are what keep this BEST ever MB alive and well. Coach has sparked many a diverse discussions and some great as others not so great. I'll take the diversity of ALL the many posters here as opposed to banning one individual for speaking what he thinks is true. Please find your safe spot but keep contributing as the rest of us seem to do.

Salute the nation

Heyward did blow up the play at the end of the game where Tuitt got his sack. So, he isn't totally invisible. I also think he is the only DL that might be getting double coverage. And, we continue to not rush Watt on the majority of plays.

You put your neck out on this one...

Crickets...

He's not playing up to his standards. What fan disagrees with that? As I though Crickets...

How many 'non-calls' did you account for yesterday??? I know the answer - I'm just waiting to hear your perspective. Here's a clue - Cam cameoed in more that one of these calls...

Did you see what I did there???

I saw Cam getting pressure yesterday. I saw him getting held egregiously, and I also saw hands in his face when he was called for hands to the face.

Dude the ref's sucked in that game. Watt was being held several times. At least three times from what I saw. On one of the PI plays, the ball was in-catchable and iffy at best. I didn't see Heyward close to making a plays, as stated he had but 1 assisted tackle for the enter game. So if he was being held, it wasn't close enough to the QB for me to notice.

Now, if you want to debate whether he is not playing up to his 2017 standards, well let's just say your going to look silly in that debate.

And now Coach has his answer - I saw it at least 4 times yesterday on just Cam. The refs didn't even bother to call holding in our favor yesterday - NOT ONCE!!!

Where did the dude come from who put a gun to your head, forcing you to read Coach's posts? Censorship is the tool of scared frauds. Are you American?

Video please. And he refs were just biased. Other players made plays despite being held too. So why didn't Cam?

I get it. Some fans are just homers and to critique any part of the Steelers ( even when its correct ) is taken personally to the point there they are bothered.

I agree with you on censorship and for the life of me can't understand why the people who dislike my posts either read or reply to them. I guess they have nothing better to do or thin skin. Doesn't bother me.

he gets double teamed every play and they are rotating Tyson and big Dan more

I haven't looked yet. But, did you start a similar thread for Watt today. I mean other players made plays despite being held too. So why didn't Watt?
Answer, they both maintained their responsibilities, were held by OL AND while maintaining their responsibilities within the TEAM DEFENSE and not freelancing, plays did not flow their way. Question - Would you rather see Heyward (and/or Watt) maintain their discipline and forego individual stats while freeing up others to make plays, or would you rather they freelanced, discarded their discipline and made plays? We've seen how the defense works when individuals start trying to do more than their job, and it ain't pretty.
Cam is fine. So is Watt. Yet, I notice you make excuses for Watt while maintaining that there are none for Cam. Of course, this fits in with your pattern: "Cam stinks now", "Davis sucks", "Dupree is terrible and dumb" "Tuitt lacks character and intelligence"... all the way back to "Troy's head is too big". On the flip side, players like Watt, Chick and DeCastro when he was struggling for a bit last year are either future All-Pros (Chick... lol) or their struggles or lack of stats are excused away.

Watt had five tackles, and a pass break up yesterday where he timed the tackle with the ball arriving that resulted in an incompletion. Who says he could not make plays? You're striking out quickly The Ravens right tackle ( Brown ) held him visibly like an Octopus. By the way that dude is freaken huge.

I get it Cam's an Ohio State boy.

Numbers rarely tell the whole story; you should know that, as a fan of the NFL, and all. Anyways, Ironhead had a sack taken off the board due to a very iffy PI call, and was having his way with the rats o line for the most part. I don’t want to see our defensive lineman making 10+ tackles a game. If Ironhead had 16 total tackles for the year, but our run defense was top 5, I’d say that he was doing his damn job. For his career, Big Snack averaged something like 2-3 tackles a game; during his time here, we went something like 50 games without allowing a 100 yard rusher; is he not contributing to that cause? ****, he was one of the biggest damn reasons for it, and why our linebackers were so free to make plays.

Coach, none of us have the 2 hours needed to select and cut up clips for you to ignore. Even when facts are pointed out to you, or you are flat out corrected by me, you fail to retain the knowledge, or ignore it entirely.

I suggest doing the work yourself by rewatching the game and look for Cam. He's working his tail off, he's not a load, and if you put in a little work, you can see for yourself.

Glad you think so. Tuitt does not have Heyward's smarts or character. So its not lack of effort with him. Anyone can have a bad game, but three bad games in a row, and you should be worried.

how do you know Heyward is smarter and has more character than Tuitt? and yes I think heyward is doing just enough to help the Steelers win.

No no dumbass. Not letting this go.. respond to it. This is what you said. Tuit doesn't have Heywards smarts or character. Blitz called you on it.. You ignored it and argue about other stuff to get away from it.

Has nothing to do with Cam being a young man who went to Ohio State ("Boy"? Interesting terminology there) and everything to do with understanding the role of a DE in our base and sub package systems. If you take the time to understand those responsibilities, you come to the understanding that sacks and tackles are not stats that they will normally rack up. Last year was an anomaly in that Butler was more aggressive in his stunting and letting the big boys go. Normally a 3-4 DE's job is to take on the blockers and clear things up so the LBs can make the tackles. Pretty simple concept: "Grunts and Glory Boys" if you will. In that regards, by commanding double teams and making it so that the OL have to hold him, Cam is doing an excellent job. Check out Smith and The Beard's stats, they were the epitome of 3-4 DEs. You won't find many games where they led the team in sacks or tackles.
As for Watt, like I said, he's doing his job too. However, if an 3-4 OLB is supposed to be making sacks, he's fallen off in that department over the last couple of games. And, one could argue that he's not only inconsistent when it comes to getting sacks, but that he's shown a surprising lack of them this year when it comes to teams that aren't the Cleveland Browns. Me? I'd say he drops into coverage a lot since we've been bringing the Safeties and Corners. I'd also say, that he's making tackles because he reads his keys excellently. Still, there's that pesky lack of sacks and pressure against most teams that aren't the Browns this year.

In case anyone is interested, coming into this season, Cam had 263 career tackles. Divided by 7 (the number of years he'd played prior to this year), that means he was averaging 38 tackles per year. At the halfway point of this season, he has 21 tackles, which would put him on pace for 42 tackles on the year. As far as sacks go, coming into this year Cam had 37 career sacks. That puts his yearly average at approximately 5 sacks per year if you round up. So far this year, he has 2.5 sacks; which projects to .... 5 sacks on the year.

Coach? Not trying to bust your balls , just want to know what you know.

Avoiding the obvious by deflecting the content. TJ had a average day, mainly because Zeus Jr. was mugging him all day. But to continuously ignore the basic concept of Cam, Tuit, and Hargraves role in the defensive scheme itself, reiterates your inability to objectively evaluate players, coaches or the game itself. You want to call folks “homers”, but you are the antithesis of them. You have an opinion, which is fine. But you will prove your opinion even when the evidence or even your “rationale” disproves them.

As Buckeye explains well enough below, that even you with your agenda narrative, you still don’t acknowledge objectivity disproves your statements on Heyward.

If you did acknowledge the obvious, you understand why Tuitt is playing well in the stretch (3 sacks in 3 games). Heyward is being constantly double, sometimes tripled teamed, thus opening up lanes for others. All the while, still causing constant pocket pressure to the QB.

I would like to add TJ’s abilities seems to allow him to get sacks in bunches, almost like when Porter, Gildon, Woodley and Worilds were there. They would get into a rhythm, then cool off. etc.

Also would like your know your sources about Tuitt’s intelligence factor versus Cam. You going to answer Bleeder’s question? Or go traveling again for a week?
