What's up with Bud?

Well there you have it. Bud had been playing hurt. This was his first game out of treatment protocol for his shoulder. Prior to this week, he was on pain pills just to be able to lift his arm on gameday.

This came from a tweet from Jeremy Fowler on ESPN.

Not everyone is getting pulled in goal line defense because they are a liability though. Bud got yanked for Chickillo.
I can't go by what I see on goal line defense because there have been several times that Hargrave hasn't been in on goal line defense

I read about it in an article, probably Dale Lolley's on DKPgh about how Watt and Dupree were subbed out for Harrison and Chickillo in red zone or goal to go plays.

Either way yesterday was an improvement for Bud. When Tuitt is back you gotta figure he will have more opportunities to hit the QB.

So were Shazier and Williams, it's how the Bengals were even able to score their second TD. We had ZERO starting LBers on the field for that play... I didn't understand it at all.

yeah I saw that too. Both Fort and Dirty Red bit Hard on that play action. Just like a couple of weeks before, exactly the same play fooled them again but that time was Steven Johnson and dirty Red on the field IIRC

I gave Bud a bunch of **** and after watching him run himself out of plays for 3 1/2 qtrs I was ready to smack him again.....but he kept after it and got closer to the QB at the end

His best game ever so far... keep it up

Interesting blurb from Fowler on the Steelers team page at ESPN.

Steelers OLB Bud Dupree said last week was his first out of treatment protocol for his shoulder injury. He responded with a sack. For weeks, Dupree needed pain pills to lift his arm on gameday. "This was my best week," Dupree said about his health. "Hopefully I don't go back."

Ouch. Sounds like a crapped rotator cuff. Had that last year. Hurts like a SoB

I'm not surprised at all, just like a few times we've gone with two Dlinemen, neither being Hargrave, on the goal line, of course we've given TDs on each occasion. I think it's part of our "we're going to outsmart ourselves" play calling.

Ah, so he was hurting a bit.

So we have an answer to the below.

1 ) Is he nursing an injury?

2 ) Low football IQ /awareness was a knock on him in college and remains an issue in the Professional ranks.

3 ) Technique and had usage to disengage?

4 ) Effort?

I do not think Dupree isn't a bust. He can be decent when healthy.

Unless he's listed as questionable. he's not hurting.

Ah! Nice backpedaling/misdirect.

According to your own post, if he isn't on the injury report, he's not hurt..i.e. Injured.

We won't forget you still harped on Wonderlic scores as the culprit ad nauseam.

Tool.

Yea, he's too dumb to realize he's hurt...

SMFH...

That makes sense, but it still doesn't explain why he over commits on run plays and gets taken out of the play.

Watt had one instance of that too. On Mixon's big run, Watt overran the backside support, so when Mixon cut back, there was nothing but air blocking his path into the secondary.

It happens. Nice if it happened less, but sometimes the LB'ers are so anxious to bring the ball carrier down from behind that they overrun the play.

Shazier over runs plays as well but I will take aggressive play every time than a few over commits.
