What former Steeler has the best eatery?

I guess, the first question is to ask who even still has a restaurant. I think Bus does. Hines?

Who has the best food and best value for the buck?

Usually former-player eateries don't last long. There is more to it than just slapping your name on some place - you have to produce great food for the $ or you will be toast.

I ate at Don Shula's, down here in FL.It was comparable to a Ruth Chris.
 
The Bus' place is open and has good food at reasonable prices. The Burger 36 is my go to.
 
Been to both Hines' and The Bus' places once, both are very good, I'd give Grille 36 a slight edge but Table 86 is slightly less expensive.
 
I know, not currently on the roster but Gradkowski's in Toledo, OH is very good.

He's been in there a few times when I was there. Can't remember exactly what year it was, but the first time we met it was around playoff time (one we weren't in) I told him it was great to meet him but I would rather I hadn't because I wished he were still playing football. He laughed seems to be be a decent guy.
 
I really like Bettis', but it is a little expensive. Dan Marino is a partner with Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, which is very good.
 
Used to always hang out at Woodsons bar in station square when I was little. They had good food for a good price. The team used to hang out there after games.
 
If yinz like a good fruit salad there is Pop's in the small backwood town of I don't give a ****. It's a hole in the wall that usually caters to Patriot fans. I hear they rustle up a mean toss salad. Warning though, the review reads not very big portions, afterwards many customers leave feeling somewhat deflated. There is a camera on site at all times, if you like to film yinz-self eating.
 
I've been to Woodson's, Bettis' and Ward's place exactly once each. While they weren't objectionable, I had no desire to ever go back.

Wouldn't be surprised in Table 86 goes under. I was there a month ago on a Friday night and it wasn't very busy. That's bad news for a restaurant.

Rod still has a place? Just looked up; it is closed. Their name allows them to open up eateries with success, but if they don't provide great food value, they won't stay in biz.

They also have to figure out who they are: Are they a top shelf steak place or a burger and wings joint? They often don't differentiate and that is a recipe for failure.

Shula's went the high end steak place; it's basically Ruth Chris with sports memorabilia.

Basically, it's like anything: You can't succeed long term if someone running it isn't passionate about it. Former players usually don't possess the passion to make it thrive long term. They care at the beginning but then their focus wanes. You won't succeed taking a half assed approach, which is why they eventually fail.

Hines Table 86 is definitely more of a wings and burger joint. Prices don't seem out of line, as long as the grub is good.

it was closed after he acted *****-like on his way out of Pittsburgh....... not sure if the food had a major impact over his exit.........

You've demonstrated insecurities by folks who can think coherently. That is YOUR problem, not others. I believe the "knuckle-dragging" posters make you feel better about yourself. It is what it is.

Ive only been to Grille 36, in 2012. Had the 36 ounce steak. I think I'm still digesting it. It was good.

I always wondered if the way Rod left Pgh if it doomed his eatery. I mean, he won an actual ring with the hated Ravens; that couldn't have helped biz. Personally, I don't blame Rod that much for how he left. Donnahoe was playing hardball with him, telling him he was washed up to get him to agree to a lower deal. Rod got pissed. I think Tom played that angle a little too heavy, as Rod had MANY good seasons after he left.

Lance Moore is no longer a Steeler or in the NFL, but he used his time in the league to land some hotness.

Steelers wanted Rod to change to S, he felt he could still play at CB, not long after he left, they moved him to S.

Nobody told or treated Rod like he was washed up, they felt his speed had digressed from the serious injury along with age.
