Duck will do whatever Tomlin allows him to do. Just like Mason when he came in for Ben, there was no time to prepare Mason so things were opened up a bit more purely based on the circumstances from the events that day. Then fast forward to Mason's second game against SF and Tomlin and Fitchner dialed things down a lot to make it simpler for him, then the wildcat against the Bengals and plenty of safe passes for Rudy. Then more wildcat and safer passes against the Ravens going deep very few times.

I would expect they will do the same with Duck but the one big thing with this Duck, he'll tuck the ball and run and SD will have to be aware of that. Duck's not afraid to run and he's fearless in the pocket which you have to like, but they need to line him up under center and not the shotgun. I also think lining him up under center is better for JaConn as well since he's a better runner when he's receiving the hand off from the QB under center rather than this sidecar ****. He needs a running start imo since he seems to be at his best then.

And please cut down the wildcat Tomlin. It worked against Cincy but the secret is out now dear friends.

I might add that Mason will not loose his job. It will be waiting for him after the bye week if he clears concussion protocol.

Lets go Duck!

I saw a QB in Hodges who was extremely confident & comfortable in the pocket. I have yet to see that from Mason...

Nothing...as long as Mason is healthy it's his job. It's not like he was playing poorly before his injury.

I hope not. The better player with more upside should start.

Screw this he gets his job back if the other guy is better. Dink and dunk won’t win many football games.

Coach, lets wait and see how the Duck performs in SD. My bet is Tomlin will keep the game plan tempered down just like he has with Mason. In all fairness to Mason, tell me he shouldn't have won the games against Seattle and SF if it weren't for a key dropped pass by Moncrief and a fumble by James. He would have at least won one f those damn games. And who knows against the Ravens if he doesn't get knocked out. This team with him could very well be 4-1 or 3-2 at worst with a little luck.

tell that to Tom Brady.

We don’t have Tom Brady at quarterback so...

If Hodges does well and the Steelers win he should start the next game.

I’m not sure if Hodges can avoid turnovers. I do think he’ll allow the receivers to get more yards in addition to creating better space via spreading the football for the running backs.

so If you feel he cant avoid turnovers why would you want him to start

We have the Chargers then the bye.

Mason is the starting QB when he's ready, what's so hard to figure out?

Doesn't compute with his narrative that Hodges is a better prospect than Rudolph, that's why. Reality is irrelevant, Hodges could throw 8 int that were all directly his fault losing the game and he'd come on the board like he played All Pro. Or he'd blame Sean Davis

Rudolph is doing just fine and if healthy will jump right back into his starting role:

Rudolph's stats:

TD's - 7 INT - 2 Rating - 102.5 PCT - 67% Avg 7.02

If Hodges wins Sunday it will be a little bit of history in the making.

Since 2008, only two rookie UDFA quarterbacks have won a game on the road. The Carolina Panthers’ Kyle Allen, who beat the Saints last season, and former Oakland Raiders’ QB Matt McGloin, who did so in 2013.

Rudolph has been fortunate to get a lot of turnovers by defense. Do you or anyone else disagree? Were are the points off turnovers? I see too many field goal which is what dink and dunk gets you in addition to clogging up the rushing lanes.

We play in a time when DB’s get flags for interference but once again most of our short throws don’t have much contact to take advantage of.the refs . Sustaining long drives for touchdowns without a long run or pass is very hard. We are plus five on turnovers! Ponder what if the defense wasn’t getting them.

Our defense isn’t good enough to win games where the offense scores two touchdowns or less.

Rudolphs playing style does not fit this era of football and he plays it safe for a reason. That is to say he’s not a runner and his arm lacks zip. He’s also locking on to much to his primary receiver.

I do know if Hodges as a rookie can make it work but I have seen how his arm and playing style can lead to down the field plays. The offense just changed when he got in the game.

Presence for a QB is important. Just haven't seen it yet from Mason...If I need to go into Battle right now, Hodges would be the gunslinger I want by my side. And I ONLY saw him for ONE QUARTER of Football. Mason plays timid....

That is presence....

I am not that confident in Mason yet....Hodges just rears back and fires.....That is today's NFL QB

Win the next 5 games and make it impossible for them to take u out, Minshew Magic!

Oh , JuJu fumbled that chance away

At this point... have a pulse as Rudolph is undoubtedly out for at least the next few weeks.

Numbers aside, Hodges looked better than Rudolph has, in his very limited sample size. Would have led this team to victory if not for Ju Ju fumbling. I say if Hodges plays that well again, go with Hodges, not like Rudolph will be the starter next year anyway.

At least he was willing to push the ball down the field. I don't know if that is a scheme issue (I doubt it, why would you open up the passing game with your 3rd string QB) or if Mason is ultra conservative and afraid of turning the ball over. However, once Duck came in and we started attacking down the field, the Rats LB's backed off the LOS and we started having some running success as well. You have to show that you can go vertical or it allows the defense to stack the box, stuff the run and take away the screen and check downs.

Don't forget Hodges did throw a bad interception and was lucky to get it called back on a penalty that had nothing to do with the throw. He threw the ball right to the defender. Sure he looked good overall but I see no way Tomlin moves him to starter ahead of Rudolph unless he won a couple games impressively with Rudolph out. But, since Rudolph will, more than likely, only miss one game (since he gets basically another 2 weeks off with the bye week). We will never know.
