I admit I have no real idea, just thought I'd get the party started.
do they get it this year, or have I totally missed the concept?

Troy was never going to play for the 2015 Steelers. So I don't see how his retirement "freed up" any money.
wasn't he scheduled to earn (x) amount?
How about a Troy replacement, in the draft?

I sure hope they don't extend jarvis.
or coax Worilds out of retirement?Lock up Dri Archer and Mike Adams to long term contracts?
Ok, I figured they would have had to keep him "on the books" in case he wanted to play, and that if he made them cut him, the savings wasn't as big...Yes, but Colbert & company were never taking Troy's salary into account because they knew he wasn't playing for us in 2015. They knew he would retire or they would cut him. So this is not any kind of windfall in terms of salary cap space. They already had enough space to sign a couple impact players but they chose not to do so. They will extend Heyward and Beachum, maybe DeCastro too. Any left over salary cap space will roll into next year.

Seems like he would help the Jehovah's Witnesses a lot more with multiple millions of dollars to donate to them.
