Alvin “Bud” Dupree has decided to have a breakout season at the worst possible time. After being ineffective for the first 4 years of his career, Dupree is suddenly a bit of a star in year no. 5, the one year the Steelers can’t really make a run. He is outstanding defending the run, and […]

Did he work or go to school or anything college with cool shades?

how much would the tag pay him?

I heard the tag for him would be 16 million. That's way to high when we are a projected to be right around 6 million in cap space next season. There's no way you can feel safe giving, a guy that hasn't be good for 4 seasons, then suddenly shows up in a contract year, a big contract. You can't pay everyone top market value, and some team will give him that on the open market.
We have Minkah and Juju that will need paid after next season, then Watt after that.

I feel as though he had 5 years to show. The fact that he's just now playing sorta decent doesn't buy my love.

Course we all KNOW they're going to give him a new contract. So what's the point of conjecturing?

I'm not sold on Bud. We have been playing some very bad QB's on bad teams.
Hopefully he leaves and takes Mason and James with him.

Who replaces Bud? Seems like the duo is working out to be solid. I see no reason to change what isn't broken. No the Steelers will do their typical type contract and he will be back. There is enough to fix on O without disrupting the productive starters on D.

Bud is tied for 21st in sacks and 50th in QB hits, he's on pace for 10 sacks, that's not worth paying top market price for. That's not worth a 16 million dollar cap hit either, not when you don't have the cap space to begin with and you have 3 big contracts coming up.

Pay that man!! Career high in sacks. Will have over 10 when the season ends. Lock him up

Hopefully they can work out a reasonable contract. I'm not sure I'd do the tag. If he keeps producing it will be hard to compete on the open market. Someone will overpay for him. The tag may be the only viable option. If the goal is championship you want something proven to produce consistent results. Lucky for us we have games left to be played to see how things go. Not that we can do jack **** either way.

1. Approach Ben about a restructure, he's using up over 30 million in cap space. He'll be welcomed back with open arms next season but let's face it, at this stage in his career he needs a solid supporting cast.

2. Transition tag Dupree. I think we'll be able to match other offers, as Dupree should be in the 12-15 million range. The reason, there are other quality edge rushers who will be on the FA market which should keep his price in check. And for those worried that we won't get a 3rd round comp if we tag, well those are a crapshoot anyway and it won't even come until 2021. We're in a win now mode with Ben approaching the end of his career.

You need a drink and a Kraft-like rub and tug...don't be silly...

Ifd that don't work then KONK him over the head with a helmet.

I get a Lmarr Woodley just thinking about Bud after he gets paid.

Gotta keep him. Not fan of long term deal. Could be another Woodley.

I said this in another thread. Could his play currently be:
1. On the juice
2. Finally learned how to play/coached up
3, Players around him also getting attention
4. Little bit of all, well minus the first lol.

Need another year. Tag him. Hope he understands, but he knows his value now is the greatest it’s ever been. I see a tough offseason of decisions coming. Lots of folks need restructured.

Have to eliminate the on the juice possibility.I seen his off-season workouts
I think his improvement is through hard work. Not that a new contract didn't help motivate.

If the Steelers want to keep him they'll find a way to get it done. They always do so it'll just be up to the player if he wants to stay. Bud will have to know his role on the team in that he will not be the highest paid defensive player. Him and TJ are a good pair right now and when you consider they have most of their defense locked up for several years outside of Watt and absolutely no big money players on offense besides Ben, who will be coming off the books soon, they'll have money to spend.
