Well it comes down to buffalo

Look, the Jets have impressed me. They have won 5 in a row, and this week would make 6. I dont recall the Jets doing that, perhaps ever. I give them a chance to screw it up. .

I did not see much of the game but from what I saw, I'd agree the Jets looked pretty good. Not what I'm used to seeing from that team. I think they know whats at stake and will roll over the Bills but you never know what will happen. As Oddball from Kelly's Heroes said, "Have a little faith, baby. Have a little faith."

He will be back and he will be dominant, probably just not this year.
There's a skip on your record, chief. Keeps playing the same thing over and over.

I will be glued to the tv, but I just don't have a lot of faith when it comes to backing into the playoffs. I am so disappointed in this team right now I can't hardly watch. GO BILLS!!!!!!!

I'll watch, but I won't be "glued" to the TV. Even if we make it in, this D - as currently coached - is so bad, and game time coaching is so horrid, based on ego, that we have little chance of making much noise. Trying to win with Tomlin is like trying to run with a ball and chain on your ankle.

I think it is entirely possible that the Bills will win.

I'm of the mindset that they don't deserve to go to the playoffs but I'll watch the game and root like hell for the Bills because I never like to see the Steelers football season come to an end. You never know if it will be your last.

All that being said, when it comes down to miraculous scenarios that had to come true in order for the Steelers to make it into the playoffs I go back to Chuck Noll's last trip to the post season in 1989. They needed:

1) Win final game at Buccaneers
2) Saints Win
3) Giants Win
4) Vikings Win

All that somehow worked out and they went on to snag the last wildcard and win at Houston (the Oilers) on New Years Eve. I remember that game and celebration afterwards like it was yesterday. The following week they came damn close to upsetting the Broncos and lost by one stinking point. I remember driving home that night seriously pissed off. Made last weekends loss equivalent to getting upset at a partly cloudy day.

Here is a great article on that scenario and the 89 Season: http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/12411205/12853966

JMM, if I remember correctly didn't Rod Woodson lay a big hit at the end of that game that caused a fumble, to seal the game vs the Oilers?? Is that the same game you are talking about. Then they lost to Denver in a shootout where Merril Hoge couldn't be stopped. If I remember correctly Hoge was a beast that day.

Woodson, Lloyd and company nailed the Oiler RB and forced the fumble in OT. If the Oilers picked up 15-20 yards they would easily have been able to kick a FG. Instead old dependable Gary Anderson kicked a long field goal to win it.

The game against the Broncos was as exciting and I guess you could call it a shootout for back then. I think the defense ran out of gas in the mile high air and after the game in the House of Pain

No chili last week. I also did not wear my 91 Kevin Greene jersey which had brought good fortune the previous couple weeks.

I will take full responsibility for the loss. :)

I wore the new AB jersey that the wife bought me for Christmas and not my usual Ben jersey. I figured it would be a good thing.
The lucky hot wing mojo performance was below the line obviously, so this coming week I will be back to deep-frying them. I make hot wings for EVERY game, either baked or deep fried, and cook them one way until there is a loss then change to the other for the next game. Been doing situational wing cooking since 2005.

Deep fry wings for 14 minutes
or
Bake at 400* for one hour, turn over after 30 minutes.
Sauce:
1/3 cup of butter
1/2 cup of Frank's Red Hot
1/4 cup of honey
Simmer in a small pot until blended.

There was a terrible divergence in the negative force.

I admit, I gave away a "Steelers Flag" for Christmas. We had a guest and I was informed that not only had the family not prepared for him in terms of gifts, but that he was a Steelers fan. I ad-hoc'd a gift and gave him my game day flag.

God only knows what I may have done. On the other hand, Tomlin could have elected to kick the FG's so there's that.

Yeah, woodson drilled Lo White, caused the fumble and he recovered it. Anderson then kicked a 50 harder to win it 26-23. Hoge was great that game too, had 100 yards and a TD. The game is up on YouTube. The next week the steelers lost 24-23. They had a 10-0 lead early in that one.

I hope for the best. And hope the Bills win and the Steelers win.

Just hoping the Jets pull a Tomlin ..... the odds are against it.

But the Bills did have a OK year by their standards...maybe we will get lucky.

a big maybe but I have my fingers and toes crossed and penis twisted.

:mask:

Well I am actually from Buffalo - Cheektowaga. Born there and lived there for the first six years of my life before moving to Pittsburgh. This week has caused me to fire up some previously dormant brain cells. Was able to re-connect with some neighborhood friends. Sounds like the fans there are pretty fired up to take down the Jets.

Also see on Google Maps that I lived only a few blocks from the Airport. No wonder I had nightmares about those old prop-driven planes.

Believe me, Rex wants nothing more than to sweep the Jets. His defense forced 4 turnovers in NY in the first game and I totally expect for him to have his team pumped for this one to make sure the Jets are home on their couches when the playoffs start. May even throw in some gadget plays to keep them on their heels.

Looks like Buffalo is getting all the lake effect snow today and some tomorrow... Sunday will of course, be sunny.

Absolutely. It's basically the same situation as the Ravens-Steelers last week.

Steelers (again) are favored to win in Cleveland. Could they lose (again) against a scrub team? Of course they can. The Steelers coaches will have a challenge keeping the younger players motivated to be playing at a higher level than ever while everybody is looking at the scoreboard for the Jets-Bills scores.
Things could go great for the Steelers and score on every possession like they should have last week. In a shoot out I don't think the Brownies can match up with the Steelers.
In the end I think the Jets are a lock to win.
These two Rats games this year and the Seattle game pretty much sealed the fate of the Steelers chances for the post season.

At this point it don't really matter what the defense does because our success is predicated on how our offense and Ben plays.

1 - 1

1 - 3

1 - 2

0 - 2

3 - 0

2 - 1

3 - 1

4 - 0

0 - 1

3 - 2

Some may know what these numbers are....those that don't, these numbers here tell the whole story of our success/failures on offense. The numbers are TDs/INTs in games Ben has played

The first four entries are the losses. The bottom 6 are the wins. As you can see, theres been only 1 win where Ben didn't throw a TD pass and had an INT vs Cincy. DeAngelo went off that day vs Bengals.

Seems that magic number is 2. If we have 2 or more INTs its usually an automatic L. The exception is the Denver game (and he almost single-handedly gave that game away with that 2nd pick trying to seal the win)

3TDs and 8 INTs in the losses (4)

15TDs and 5 INTs in the victories (6)

*I didn't include stats from the Rams game in which he got hurt but he had no TDs and 1 INT that contest

Bottom line...QB play in this era is vital and Ben needs to not give it away (multiple times in a game). If he manages to accomplish that, its a win. Judging by the numbers, at 14 INTs, chances are likely he will have at LEAST one INT this week vs Browns.

He plays well in Ohio...so I predict a win.....but it could get interesting if his game is off again. Hes been battling illness this week and got sent home from practice. Hope his *** is ready for the challenge and redeems himself from last week.
