It is never easy trying to fill the shoes of an All-Pro player, this challenge was one that second-year running back James Conner was willing and ready to undertake coming into this season. To his credit, Conner has not only adjusted well to his new role, he has somewhat exceeded expectations but not in the […]

I think fans are quick to dismiss him based on the rat game.

But when you are behind for me it is too much of a small body of work.

I think it is still too early to lean either way between starter and backup. But some of that film for me is encouraging.

The catch and run to start the 4th QTR was Conner's best play. I'm surprised that wasn't included.

1. Is he a replacement for Bell, only to an extent, but the team does not need him to be Bell.
2. When the D puts you constantly in a hole, the ground game becomes a much smaller part of the game plan. Having a capable receiving RB is what is need st that point.
3. The money saved with Conor is much needed to address issues that are directly leading to losing games, THE DEFENSE.

Conner's has done what was expected in him, he came to camp ready to play. He has nothing to be ashamed of. Conner's paly did not lose he Rats game, the offensive line had a worse game than he. Bell should not even come into the conversation. AS usual we were playing from behind which changes the play call and exactly how much you depend on the run game. The second half the Rats defense shut everything down. Why, they can tackle, they can cover and if a pass completed there would be three players making the stop.

The OL play has not been as good this year, and some starters were out. When he has blocking, Conner shines.

I'd use Conner, with Nix and McDonald a bit more often, flanked by Brown and Ju-Ju. The old pro set might work for the Steelers.

We had just got two OLmen back. But yeah not a good performance from them.

I think I read Nix had one rep....

Let's say Connor is not the answer. For the money we save on Bell we could improve 2-3 other positions. I think Connor will be fine if the oline steps up. With Bells style and the way the oline has been i highly doubt he would be going anywhere either.

I will say, Conner is doing better on 3rd down as a blocker, than I thought he would.
