Not much of a slate this weekend. Mostly mismatches. There are no top 25 matchups. Penn State vs Pitt probably is the most interesting game of the week.

This is the 100th meeting and could be the last for a long time. With the Big Ten now having 9 conference games, it’s tough to have a yearly non-conference opponent.

Penn State, like many teams, looks to schedule schedule 2 cupcakes that guarantee a home date and 1 power 5 team. Their power 5 spot is booked through 2025 or 2027 is you consider Temple as their ‘good’ non-conference opponent.

Upcoming power 5 non-conference for PSU - Virginia Tech, Auburn, Auburn, WVU, WVU, Virginia Tech, Temple, Temple

Hopefully Bo Nix will be in the NFL before Auburn comes to town.

Penn State has played a ton of freshmen and sophomores this year. The raw talent of PSU matches just about anybody as their recruiting classes have been very strong.

but with that comes inexperience and Penn State struggled in the first half vs Buffalo because of many mistakes. This season can go either way.

If the mistake prone team from the first half vs Buffalo shows up, then Pitt has a chance if they limit their own mistake. But if PSU plays to their ability, this could get ugly.

A name to to get to know is Penn State DE Yetur Gross Matos. He will be a first round pick. They also have the super talented LB Micah Parsons who wear’s Lavar Arrington’s 11.

other games of note

Friday - 20 Wash State at Houston

Saturday
Noon - Pitt at Penn State
3;30 Stanford at 17 UCF
3:30 24 USC at BYU - USC athletic director Lynn Swann resigned. Most this Urban Meyer will be at SC next year.
4:00. 19 Iowa at Iowa State - usually a very competitive game
7:00. 9 Florida at Kentucky - Florida has looked sketchy. Possible upset?

I'm not real confident in Penn State this week. I think this is a trap game before they hit the conference schedule. I'm also not sold on the new QB and with them continuing the RPO style. He's not nearly as athletic as McSorley was and McSorley struggled at times with it.

Depressing. I can’t help but wonder how much better Western Pennsylvania college football would be if Pitt had built an on campus stadium and Pitt, PSU and WVU all played each other every year. And they screwed themselves over in terms of recruiting from the WPIAL.

Not sold on Clifford yet but he is a good athlete. He supposedly runs a 4.5 and he had a 58 yard run vs Buffalo which is a longer run than McSorley ever had.

i do think he is struggling on the decision for read option. He’s made the wrong choice a bunch of times.

Heading to the UH vs Washington State game this evening.

I absolutely guarantee that the Cougars will win this game.

Houston is +250 on the money line. Good money maker if they win outright

Pitt will get their ***** handed to them again. Be like 52-14.

Buffalo had some success running in the first half but PSU adjusted. I still think that's their weakness is power runs up the middle. Part of why Buffalo did that is because their QB made some great throws.

I think Pitt's only shot is if they can hold the ball a long time with the run game. To do that, their QB will have to make some plays because PSU will be able to just crowd the box unless he backs them off.

The Idaho game may have done more harm than good for PSU. It was just so easy that they didn't even get much practice out of it. Buffalo is a good team and they gave PSU a battle. I was actually happy that Buffalo played so tough. That's what PSU needed heading into the Pitt game.

I'm surprised he runs a 4.5. In their first game, the announcers were saying how he's not nearly as good a runner as McSorley was and I don't think McSorley ran a 4.5.

I'd be stunned if Pitt competes. Their OL is bad, the running backs go down easy, and the QB is not good. The defense can keep them in it for awhile, but they'll eventually get worn down. Should be an easy 21+ point win for Penn State.

Penn State lightning delay until approx 12:40

Does sloppy field help Pitt? It may if it cuts down on explosive plays.

This is the only time I'll actually root against a Pittsburgh team.

Clifford will ensure this game is close.

State’s D getting shredded by Kenny Pickett by land and air.

Ok, 7-3. See if Clifford can actually do something here.

Yep. They don’t look good at all. Offense, defense, none of it.

State has one damn yard in the 2nd quarter. They are stacking the box against the run because they know Clifford is limited.

Pitt up 10-7. I didn't see that coming.

I've watched Pitt for too long to know how this one will turn out. PSU will re-group at the half and dominate. I know it's coming. Pitt looks good now. . .

Penn States D is very good. Surprised Pitt moved on them that easy. Penn States O isn't that good altogether. They have good RB's and WR's and a great TE. If Clifford can't move them and score it's either that he sucks, the O-line sucks or the play calling is terrible.
