We l9st in the playoffs to Tim Tebow

2017 Loss to Jax was the most painful for me. Steelers had the best Offense in the league, unfortunately they had Dick and Mike T to put it all together.
That loss is when i knew in my heart the Steelers championship hopes were done. Ben had everything he needed, Bell and Brown were dominant against Jax and they still lost.
I think 25 out of 32 coaches in the league win the superbowl with that 2017 Steelers team.
Tomlin blew it.

In Tomlin's last three playoff games, his teams have given up 129 points - an AVERAGE of 43 points allowed per game. Did not believe I would look back on the 2016 playoff loss to the Patsies*** 36-17, giving up 431 yards in the process, and think, "Wow, I miss that kind of defense."

But here we are.

Jesus Christ, I forgot one thing about the playoff loss to the @#$%ing Jaguars in 2016 (January of 2017 actually, but you get the point). Recall that the Steelers score a TD to get within one score, 42-35. There is 2:18 on the clock and the Steelers have just two timeouts, of course, because they blow a timeout on offense during the TD drive. Anyway, within one score, clock is going to be/can be stopped 3 times, so what does that coaching genius, the Amazin' Mike, do?

******* onside kick. Jax gets the ball at the 36 yard line after illegal touching penalty, runs the ball 3 times, and kicks a 45-yard field goal. Now a two-score game. Steelers get the ball at the 25 after kickoff with 1:40 on the clock, Ben drives them for TD.

Brilliant idea going for the onside kick, Tomlin. I mean, when you're down two scores ... wait. Well, when you can stop the clock just two times ... hold on. Well, if you don't think the offense can get the ball with about 1:50 on the clock and drive 75 yards ... give me a second here.

I believe the Steelers are the only team in NFL history to allow their opponent to score at least 36 points in three consecutive playoff games.

Tomlin's basically a joke.

I was at that game on the Jax sideline and we got utterly destroyed everytime they ran right. We couldn't stop anything. Hargrave and Tuitt got abused. -3 TOs didnt help but our defense was just god awful. **** went downhill quick just like it did v the Stains.

Man this thread is depressing me...... what could have been

we were missing Shazier.

I'm doubtful it was from lack of respect. They're either really stupid or they intended to lose. They do stick to the script no matter what. It was good drama.
Shades scoffs at your suggestion that his perfect game plans need adjusting.
Remember The Bruce passing all day in below-zero temps in Cleveland and saying we don't change our game plan based on the weather? Awesome.

Browns had one of the worst rushing defenses at the time also, IIRC

Didn't that happen against the jets also? We passed all game in a snow storm.

It's a completely retarded way of thinking. So the reality is they have no Plan B. Ego&laziness? Heck it looks like they don't even have a Plan A. That's given how reckless & unprepared they look sometimes against sub .500 opponents.

I am afraid that is the achilles heel of the team. It's fixable if you leave your ego at home and actually have multiple plans. Heaven forbid they do something unexpected.

Kind of why I think Canada's game plan will be much better as its contigent on making adjustments on the fly. With the current HC and previous OC(s) it was proven that adjustments were not a thing.

I keep hoping that's the case every year. A change for the better when it comes game plans. So far I see the same thing e v e r y s i n g l e y e a r . The same fatal flaws. The lack of taking responsibility for those failures and taking appropriate action to change the way you do things. The magic football fairy isn't going to help.

They need to reset the standard.

Isn't it just that the players didn't execute? If Shades calls a play, it's not his fault that it didn't gain 43 yards. He's not on the field.

I just remember the Chargers being something like three TD underdogs in that Super Bowl, and they barely covered the betting line.

The 1994 49ers team might have been the best team of the 1990s. They were equally great on both sides of the ball.

The Steelers would have given them a better game than the Chargers due to having the superior defense, but I still think they would have had a tough time staying within 10 points.
The 1994 team had Rod Woodson, Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene and Carnell Lake in their prime. The best D in football. They had a 2-headed running attack that could own time of possession.

what they didn’t have was a big play passing game. Eric Green was most potent receiving threat, but this was at a time they could hit.

they lost 1994 AFCCG cuz of overconfidence and 3 lucky plays by Chargers.

could they have beaten 49ers? Yes. Odds would have been against, but if Giants could beat Bills by eating up clock, the Steelers could have as well with some turnovers. It would have required some luck—but they could have done it.

What fatal flaws do you see and how are the supposed to change it?

Its going to take MORE change (HC) to accomplish what you are after....................

I was reffering to in-game spurr of the moment (Canada's O requires that.

It is beyond my comprehension how the Steelers ownership could not look at the long term debacle that has been Mike Tomlin since he got "his guys" on the coaching staff. Even last year. They ****** crushed the Browns in the first meeting. Almost beat them with the seconds. And lost in the playoffs. The real problem is the ownership is satisfied with the facade of contending that Tomlin provides. And apparently many of us are too.

I half contest your last sentence, Yes there are a lot of "average" fans in that degree but MOST fans that have a little football knowledge know it's the ownership and have come to accept the fact that the HC isn't going anywhere.

I'm not sure I'd say over confident, we were up by 10 points with like 10 minutes left in the 3rd. We couldn't run on them, they shut our running game down so we couldn't kill clock. I know everyone looks at the spread for that game and says how big of an upset it was, but the Chargers were alot better than anyone seems to remember. They played a tougher schedule in a much better division than us, and they had the #5 ranked offense and #9 ranked defense (5th vs the rush), we had he #2 ranked D, but #16 ranked offense. Two 43 yard TD passes in the second half was their offense.

and his players. The issue with that playoff loss, is the Browns made some very obvious adjustment especially on offense from the week 17 game. It makes it even more ridiculous that they weren't allowed to practice or have in person meetings all week. We got Watt and Heyward back too.
They were running to our defenses right alot early, away from Watt and just trapping Heyward, but **** we were using 2 Dlinemen vs the best running team in the NFL. Then they went to a very quick and short passing game to negate our pass rush which got to Mayfield alot the previous week. We just left our play making safety deep in that tampa two look while they matched their #1 WR on our ILB that just came off of IR and was out of shape, who for some reason played 88% of the ******* snaps.

Geez, when you say it like THAT Tom, it makes it look like the coaches messed up.

Get with the program, man.

This is the stuff that drives me crazy.

They had a plan because they looked at what we do and responded accordingly. We said "let's just play our game" and did not respond. There is a term for that - "CRAPPY COACHING" Tomlin gets out coached constantly, and it's beyond lame. He is about to go into a time where the talent level is going down. Who will bail his lame coaching butt out then?

The closest thing to "coaching ajustments" we have is when Ben would audible out of a really predictable game plan, or choose to play to his strengths instead of stupid stuff.

Someone asked "did we really piss away Ben's best years?" The answer is "Yes."
