The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t take T.J. Watt until the tail end of the 2017 NFL Draft, but it looks like they picked a winner when they selected the University of Wisconsin product.

Watt, the brother of Houston Texans J.J. Watt, has impressed the Steelers coaches and teammates since he walked into the team facility. His approach to the game, his intelligence and his overall will to improve and win has been amazing by all standards.

With that said, it was no surprise Watt had a tremendous debut in Week 1 of the 2017 regular season against the Cleveland Browns. His two sack, one interception performance was not only a first for an NFL rookie in his debut, but good enough to earn him NFL Defensive Rookie of the Week honors.

As it was no surprise Watt played the way he did Sunday, it was no surprise he was the slam dunk decision to be the rookie defender of the week.

The Steelers have seen other rookie defenders surge onto the scene, namely Bud Dupree, who had four sacks in his first four games, but slowly plateau as the year progressed. This will be the challenge for Watt as he is putting more tape of himself out there for offensive lines to study and prepare for.

Either way, if you were someone who said Watt was a bust of a pick this spring, you might want to rethink your standing on the matter.

A bigger test this week TJ !

Saw this about 20 minutes ago. Great for T.J. and the Steelers. He had a great debut, but like the article states. How will he be once Olines begin to prepare for him with more and more game footage available? I am hoping just as dominant. He was a beast Sunday.

The more attention he gets the better off the other side or D-line is.

You ONLY get better by playing better opponents. I think as the Offense gets better at stoping him, He will get better at countering that. ALSO the more time they spend planing on him will free up someone else down the line / OLB / ILB/ etc. Great player so far

Salute the nation

Well if he put up those numbers every week he'd have 80 tackles 15 plus sacks and 6 picks. Defensive player of the year not rookie of the year. If tge secondary covers like that, his motor, retrace and hunt come into play. I havent seen a big pass rush beat the tackle skillset yet.

Actually he'd have 96 tackles, 32 sacks and 16 INTs if it did that every week...

PITTSBURGH -- Coming off a two-sack, one-interception performance that earned him NFL defensive rookie of the week, T.J. Watt has made an early splash on the NFL scene.

Here are a few things you might not know about Watt.

Meet 'Big Watt': Pittsburgh Steelers players like to mess around and freestyle rap at training camp, and when Watt hopped into the linebacker cypher, the result was not impressive.

"Not at all," linebacker Arthur Moats said with a laugh.

But the attempt earned him a nickname: Big Watt. Sort of a generic rapper name, but fellow outside linebacker Bud Dupree says it sticks for now. "Maybe we'll come up with something else," he said.

Sack dance inspiration: Watt swung his arms wildly after his second sack of Browns quarterback DeShone Kizer on Sunday. But the moves were not inspired by teammate Antonio Brown. Instead, Watt said he was executing moves from social media standout "backpack kid," who's famous for performing with Katy Perry on "Saturday Night Live."

Watt said he's tried the move in a preseason a few times, too.

Watt loves cruise ships: He practically grew up on one. The Watt family took ships to a far-away destination at least once a year for most of his childhood.

These trips are far different now, thanks to big bro.

"We can't do cruises anymore, because J.J.'s too dang famous," Watt said during offseason workouts. "You get trapped on the boat. We had to find our secret hideouts. We always make the best of each moment. My parents have been on so many cruises that they have lounges they have access to."

T.J. doesn't want to upstage J.J.: Watt might hold a 2-0 sack edge among family pass-rushers, but the three-time defensive player of the year won't hear about that from his little brother.

"I'm just really supportive of him," Watt said. "If he has a bad day, I pick him up, if I have a bad day, he picks me up. At the end of the day, we're just brothers, playing and succeeding at a high level."

T.J. stands for...: Trent Jordan, who wants to make his own name.

"I wouldn't be shocked if he tries to out-do everything that his family has done to this point," said general manager Kevin Colbert during the draft. "He seems to be that kind of guy and he’s going to be very quiet about it too."

Every 5 years or so I order a new Steelers Jersey.

Watt is making it an easy choice as I prefer new players with ability that are not in trouble with the law.

Hope he can replicate his effort this week. This kid is money! Dupree needs that shoulder to get healthy so we can start annihilating QBs

I want to see sack fumbles. My favorite play in the game! You get a sack/tackle/ and Forced Fumble on one play!!

Touche. I tried to say include the odd off day. I think this could be one of the great first down steals that fell to the Steelers.
