Watt gets paid

I figured they would pay him and make him the highest paid defensive player. At least until Parsons gets his.
Would have been shocked if they had traded him.
Hopefully he stays healthy and produces at a high level the next four seasons. We’ll see!
Btw, thanks Jimmy Haslam you stupid *** for resetting the market. That’s twice now you’ve done that.

3 years deal is a win for the Steelers. TJ should have at least 2 more huge seasons and even if he drops off a bit for year 3, will still be one of the best in the league.

Watt probably wanted a longer deal. If he stays healthy, he may land another good deal, just not a blockbuster.

This likely isn't popular but my feeling was it would always get done but I would feel it's too much for one player. It's exactly how I feel. I agree 3 years is a good compromise given his age, but I don't want to be sitting in the same position in 2028. The cap hit will work because we won't be paying a QB big money during this contract.

I'd like to see TJ being more of a force at the end of the season.

Glad this got done before camp. Interesting it is a three-year extension, though smart from the team's point of view given Watt's age.
Watt will turn 31 this season
The extension covers the 32, 33, and 34 year old seasons..
premier edges often dont fall off till 36 or later.. some are effective till almost 40... this gives him another shot at a decent contract if he opts to continue playing...

I read Watt's new deal is actually a smaller percentage of the salary cap than his contract extension in 2021.

Ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhh.

Nelllssssss I like it.

I wish we paid more attention to cap percentages than raw numbers... they tell a bigger story ....

Player A signs for 10 million year one, the next year player B signs for 11, but the cap went up 10% so basically he got the same deal...

You can see how teams try to keep certain positions within certain percentages and guesstimate where new contracts will fall..
