No one like TJ more than me. But no one gets a free pass. I realize everything involved including the agents etc. But the exact blueprint for this contract exists one year ago with the Bosa deal. They play virtually the same position and their numbers are lock on the same. This is wringing out dollars and it will effect the first 1/4 of the season. You can be in shape as much as you want but you need football callouses to be ready. How much could they be a part and how much has really changed since February. This is getting stupid.

Steelers in house contracts seem to move slow. Yeah the timing of this one seems to be creeping a little too close to game one.

It has to do with guaranteed money and probably the signing bonus. The Steelers don't go anywhere near as high as other teams.

It has to be the guarenteed money. I believe Cope said they only give signing bonus as guarenteed cash. If Watt's asking them to fiscally change the way they do things it's not happening. Otherwise like I said it's wringing dollars on a 140 million contract

If there was a real issue in the negotiations, then the Steelers would have signalled it, or Watt's folks would have used the media to help. That doesn't seem to have happened, so it seems likely that the announcement is forthcoming. Given the start of the season soon, it would make all fans feel better, regardless of deal terms, to have this done already.

Next year's negotiations with Fitzpatrick are going to be even funner.

With the contracts Jamal Adams and Harrison Smith just signed, it going to take 20+ million per year to get it done.

The Steelers are going to have a lot of money tied up into two non-QB players.

The guy never mentioned anymore is JuJu. It's like a forgone conclusion he won't be back. I think he's going to have a great year, and it would be a real shame not to get him another contract. It's all about how much$$$$$$$$ there is.

But two important positions on D. No worries the Steelers will continue manipulation of the cap. They do it well, they do it well yearly. They did it well this off-season.

Not concerned. He will be a Steeler for a long time. With our current depth it also allows them not to rush him in there from day 1 and play all the snaps.

Wise man once say " never stick finger in wet hole, may come out dry"

No media means the deal is there just waiting on timing announcement. Surely the STEELERS aren't going to ask him to honor the 5th year option but then again yaz never know............................ ???

Salute the nation

Probably depends on what hole you are sticking it in I presume.

If you're not writing the check or paying TJ in some sort of financial way...why is this annoying???

Patience, grasshopper...
Because the longer it drags out the more it will effect his season. And you could put the if your not writing the cheques to virtually any situation with the team.

Lack of live tackling at the very least has to be a minor injury concern.

for sure. He will at best play half the snaps in the first two games. They are not going to just throw him in. That would be insane.

Highsmith and Ingram are good enough to carry some weight until Watt gets at 100% of his typical form.

They're probably going to heavily rotate all three guys throughout the season, anyway.

It's what they did in 2020, working Highsmith in a lot, even before Dupree's injury.

If they have three good edge guys, may as well use them all.

Is it possible that it will be happening today or tomorrow? With final cut downs to 53 and compliant within the salary cap?

Watt is just getting his. The greed factors are not important. Him simply getting his well deserved coin is all that matters.

the contract will get signed and he will get PAID

Just saw this on crapbook -

Inside sources have indicated to me the contract negotiations with TJ Watt have been halted. Citing they are not willing to make TJ the highest paid player defensive in the league with two years left of contractual control under the franchise tag. The front office has indicated they will exercise their right to tag Watt through the 2022-2023 season.
