Ward or AB, who deserves Hall more?

Brown said the team was not all in and putting in the effort this year that is why he quit.

He looks like a cross between Culio and Odell Beckam with his haircut and blonde mustache, matches his low IQ.

I would vote Ward based on his tough, brutal blocking reputation alone. He also caught a lot of passes.

Even adjusted for era, Brown is one of the best WRs ever.

Ward was a great player, but he was never widely regarded as the best WR in the game for a five-plus year period like Brown has been.

Brown's had a great QB throwing to him, but so what?

Jerry Rice is the GOAT, but does anyone honestly believe his numbers were not inflated by having Joe Montana and Steve Young throwing to him all those years?

I'm not fan of Brown's antics, but the guy is on a first ballot HOF trajectory. Ward is borderline.

Love Hines but he will struggle to make the hall. I think he changed the game at WR with his blocking and that is the definition of a HOFer. AB is already pretty much a lock to get in. He has been the best WR or arguably the best for 5 years now and has the record with 5 (don't think he has 6 now but my memory ain't the best) seasons in a row with 100 catches and 1,000 yards.

Can't be considered the best when Kordell and Maddox are your QBs playing in a run first offense with a HOF RB.
Mike Wallace was on a historical start here, what happened when he left?

So the original question is who deserves the Hall more, Brown or Ward.
We can only go by what we know NOW. We cannot possibly predict the rest of Brown's career past today.
Breaks Rice's marks? Catastrophically blows out knee on jetski and never plays again? No way of telling.
So as of now, it's Ward.
Obviously, this can change based on how Brown finishes his career.

But allow me to interject this due to the back and forth about who the better WR is between the two that ensued.
As far as catching the ball and creating separation - It's Brown.
As far as being a COMPLETE player - It's Ward.
Ward changed the game with his blocking. As previously mentioned, there was a rule created named after him because of his style of playing WR. HE CHANGED THE GAME.
Ward was never mentioned in the same breath as Terrell Owens, Torry Holt, Randy Moss, and Marvin Harrison. All of them were considered better receivers.
But none of them were as big a part of their teams' running game as Ward was.
Ward wasn't as tall. Wasn't as fast. Didn't have as big of hands. Didn't have the highest leaping ability. Etc. Etc.
But Ward did ALL of those things really well, was the best blocker, and was a former QB. He was cerebral and knew his route and everyone else's assignments on offense.

As also stated above, Ward was/is the far better PLAYER and far better TEAMMATE.
Sandlot football? I'm picking Ward over Brown EVERY time.
Building a team from the ground up to compete and win rings? HINES WARD.
When I think of prototypical Steeler player? Ward.
Who I'm more likely to remember and talk about amazing/splash/memorable moments and plays? Hines.

Hines' 2001 - 2009 years he was Swiss Army Knifing like a BOSS!
Running, Catching, Throwing, Route Running, and Blocking all equally well.

Both are fantastic players.

Who deserves it more? If your voting on a great football player it’s Ward all the way.

If your voting for stats in the hands off timeline, it’s Brown.

My pick is Ward.

I think Ward is a better football player, but as a WR, he isn’t close to AB.

Different styles of play but I think both should be in the HOF. They changed rules because of Hines.

I say both too. It's not even their catches that are my favorite part. For Hines it was the awesome hits ex: Welker, Rivers. And one of my favorite moments in all of football history was AB kicking the **** out of the Browns punter. Hi-yah, mfer!

He has six, most ever.

It depends if the voters can separate eras, Ben attempts like 15 passes a game more than Kordell and overall completes a much higher% of his passes. So AB, and all wrs in this era havr way more opportunities to make plays

This would be an excellent question for Ben to answer once AB leaves or retires.

I believe he would say, Ward.

With my heart, I'd say both.

With my head, Ward will probably struggle because he was never seen as an elite "receiver".

Brown, if he can maintain his current pace will likely be a first or 2nd ballot HOF guy.

Now, all that said, can any of you imagine
A) one current player on the Steelers roster who would give a media statement while doing an 'ugly cry' about how he and his teammates let another teammate down in attempting to get a SB ring? And

B) can you even imagine a player on the current roster than ANYONE WOULD cry for if they failed to make it to the SB?

Didn't JuJu cry after his fumble against the Saints?

LMAO at Brown being the greatest of time. You could make a good argument that he's not even the best in the game right now.

Brown is the better receiver. Ward is the better football player. I believe both are HOFers.

Cope, looking at their respective careers as of today,......AB has a little bit to go. I agree he will be a HOFer but today he is borderline in my opinion. Ward is complete career and I think he gets in eventually but when AB's career is over I think he will be 1st ballot. THere is always a catastrophic chance of injury and a reasonable chance of stupidity to go hand in hand with AB.

Salute the nation

What is wrong with you guys. The question is who gets the nod now and we can only go off of now numbers
Currently AB is no where even close to the Hall. He will need at least 3 years of good stats to be considered
Right now ward has 1000 catches playing with guys like korky and Maddox
He's a Super Bowl MVP and a team leader. A big reason why the Steelers went to the Superbowls
Brown has only 837 catches wihich ranks in 28 on the list behind guys like tod smith and Muhammad
No superbowls

He may be a HOF guy one day but currently as this thread ask
Right now he's not even a little close.
If he doesn't make a Super Bowl or anything then I think he will need at least 1100 to 1200 catches to get in the hall that's 3 or 4 years of 100 catch seasons . He's lucky to have 2 or 3 total years at a high level left

Like I said he may get in but he has a lot of work to do. In today's era receivers finishing with 1000 to 1100 catches will be a dime a dozen.

AB has outperformed Ward AS OF NOW...what the hell is wrong with you...WARD did not get in because his numbers are basically basic...Pedestrian if you will...Deal with it...Different players but Ward is NOWHERE close to AB...You did not watch the last 7 years?

All true but Ward was a possession receiver and not so much a downfield guy. May not have a crap-ton of yards but he has 1000 career catches and pretty much everyone with 1000 gets in the HOF.

Ward always gets points from me for his devastating blocking and coming up big in the SB. With both players I think an argument can be made for and against a HOF induction. With the committee reluctant to vote in Steelers players you wonder if either will make it. ABs could very well take a hit this off-season with a move.

Yes possession receiver nails it. 6 months ago this answer would have been different from Steeler Nation. Most would have sung his praises and rightly said he IS BETTER THAN WARD. But the damage is done

AB is great but he ****** us all

Fact is everyone here is hurt because of what this dipshit AB has/is doing....We loved him a few months ago. It is like my ex girlfriend. Right now there are times I really, really hate what she ruined for her and I. AB has done the same to all of us...

Many here DO NOT WANT A FRIENDSHIP with AB now. We HATE HIM just like an ex who didn’t value us

Hardly pedestrian

Hines Ward's Hall of Fame credentials

A third-round pick in 1998, Hines Ward played in three Super Bowls and had 1,000 career receptions.

Hall of Fame voting results in recent years seem to show that outstanding individual production (Cris Carter), even when combined with consistent team success (Andre Reed), no longer guarantee a wide receiver a bust in Canton.

But Hines Ward, the all-time leading receiver of a franchise that already has a pair of Hall-of-Fame wideouts, has as good a case as any receiver for a bust among the game’s greats.

His numbers are impressive in their own right: 1,000 receptions (eighth all-time), 12,083 receiving yards (18th) and 85 receiving touchdowns (T-13th).

Ward’s production as a pass-catcher is even more imposing when one considers that over the duration of his 14-season career, the Steelers were the NFL’s most run-heavy offense. Pittsburgh ran the ball on 48.8 percent of its plays from 1998-2011. No other team ran the ball on more than 47 percent of its snaps over that span.

More so than in any other sport, wins and losses aren’t attributable to a single player in football. But the Steelers' success with Ward on the roster can’t be discounted. During his career, the Steelers won 140 regular-season games, third-most behind the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. Pittsburgh’s 12 postseason wins over that span were second to only New England.

There is also the matter of Ward’s two Super Bowl rings, and his strong play in the Steelers' Super Bowl XLV loss. The MVP of Super Bowl XL, Ward had 244 receiving yards in his three Super Bowl appearances, seventh-most ever in the Super Bowl. And only Jerry Rice (151) caught more passes than Ward (88) in postseason history.

Although catches, yards and touchdowns are the most important items on a wideouts Hall of Fame résumé, shouldn’t a receiver’s performance on running plays also be part of the equation?

It is here where Ward, regarded as one of the greatest blocking wide receivers in league history, differentiates himself from the group of receivers waiting on a call from Canton.

Ward’s blocking helped the Steelers rush for nearly 129 yards per game from 1998-2011, more than every team except the Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars. Even last season, when the 35-year-old Ward was on the field for fewer than half of the Steelers offensive plays, Pittsburgh’s rushing game was markedly better with Ward in the game. The Steelers averaged 5.3 yards per rush with Ward on the field compared to 4.1 with him on the sideline.

The line of wide receivers waiting for a spot in the Hall is long, but Ward’s career résumé on one of the league's most successful franchises could earn him a spot near the front.

Well, we know who is going to present Ward's candidacy for the Hall of Fame next year!
