Bite your tongue!Goodbye TJ WATT...............................................
Salute the nation
They want Cam on the outside. I would think they would target a nickel/slot corner before they would go after Howard. Unless they feel a certain aging corner slipped more in training camp.Just read that article on Howard demanding the trade. Not sure what it would take. If we could get him for anything but a 1st rounder, I'd have to think they would do it. But, I am guessing they will want at least a first. Then again, they pay him as a No. 2 CB, so they obviously don't value him that much so maybe we could get him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Hayden is gone very possibly after this year so if we don't lose too much draft capital, the cap hit won't be that devastating as he would become our No. 1 DB in place of Hayden.
Bite your tongue!
Yes and no. They are putting Cam outside as he is currently their best option there but he can play nickel/slot as he did before. Plus, as I said, Hayden is probably gone after this year. Cam may work out to be a reliable outside guy but I don't think he is a pro bowler like Howard would be. Team Howard up with Hayden outside this year with Cam inside and next year have Cam and Howard outside with one of the younger guys inside. If the price is right and they think they can sign him to a long-term deal in a year, I'd seriously be looking at it. Unless they think Pierre or Layne are going to both be starters, then I'd stick with what we have. But, Howard would anchor the secondary with Minkah for the next 5+ years if they can work out a new contract with him next year. They want Cam on the outside. I would think they would target a nickel/slot corner before they would go after Howard. Unless they feel a certain aging corner slipped more in training camp.
Completely agree, was gonna post something similar. The guy juat signed a contract and now wants to break itHe is 2 years into a 5 year deal ..he signed.. now wants mo $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...Not happening here
I hear about the mo money but he said he would play the contract but wanted more guaranteed money from it. The Steelers restructure deals all the time to do that. They do it every year for cap reasons and to make players (AB comes to mind) happy. Then after the 4th year of his current deal, do an extension. It could work but it all depends on how much draft capital. If they took a 3rd, we'd be fools not to jump. A 2nd and I'd still look seriously. A 1st and that might be too steep. He is 2 years into a 5 year deal ..he signed.. now wants mo $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...Not happening here
I really thought about this last night and I've changed my perspective...I would WILLINGLY give up a 1st round pick for a PROVEN player. The Draft picks are always a crap shoot, trading a 1st is in my opinion is a calculated move with much more information.
Are you prepared to make him the highest paid CB in the league (and break precedent with contract negotiations) and TJ Watt the highest paid defender in the same offseason?I really thought about this last night and I've changed my perspective...
I, too, would definitely give up next year's first rounder for Xavien Howard. He can come in and be DB1 RIGHT NOW!!! It would take a whole lot of pressure of Joe Haden and, Joe can ride off into the sunset w/ Ben after the season.
Make it happen Mr. Colbert - MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
I like Pierre's story but not sold on him being a starting outside corner. I think it comes down to the nickel corner if they find a good fit in the building. If not then you could see a last minute addition. I am on board with regardless they should..Watt way too important. I think the coaches think that Cam can handle the outside and they like Pierre as the dime and a few battling for the slot. Never know Pierre could flip with Cam as he is Tomlin's boy. They have 12 mil I thin. l as Colbert said was safety net in case of injuries. They will wait til after week 1 for the cuts probably to save money also. Not sure you see much more than what is at camp now.
Touche...and no...but Mr. Howard can't have his cake and eat it too...Are you prepared to make him the highest paid CB in the league (and break precedent with contract negotiations) and TJ Watt the highest paid defender in the same offseason?
