Wallace played the position extremely well. Makes me wonder why we gave so much to Pouncey. Not saying he isn't great, just saying coin could have helped other positions.

Fans were all over Shazier for getting injured. They called him china doll among other things.
I think we lose Foster this offseason and would be all for trying Pouncey at LG to try to get him through a season. Foster made protection adjustments, something Pouncey is familiar with as well. Having 2 guards that have that type of athletic ability could really bring back the pulling guard plays and give us versatility as to which guard would pull. Just spit balling here.
Who do you plug in at center then? Please don't say Cody Wallace.
What makes him not elite?? Strictly talking about his play.. Because he has a little trouble with bigger guys? No other center can do the things he does.
Elite means he has talent that makes him a cut above even great players. Wether he is "elite" or not should have nothing today with wether he is over paid (i don't think he is) or injury prone (maybe). Were Gale Sayers and Terrell Davis NOT elite players because they had their careers cut short by injury?
Well, being that it IS football, "having trouble" with guys bigger guys is going to go against this idea of being an "elite" center. Again, not saying Pouncey is "bad" or "unsatisfactory", but he damn sure isnt elite, and you better believe that his availability plays into that as well. And, just what exactly does he do, that "no other center can do"? Lets hear the technical analysis of it.

Velasco also has the position versatility we love, he had past work experience with Munch and was gone as soon as Munch was hired. Not sure if there is any connection, but I liked Velasco a lot for what he brought us in a pinch.
Fernando Velasco I think was even better than Wallace. Velasco replaced Pouncey the first time he was hurt, and upgraded the run blocking.
Agreed, I think Velasco is pretty solid for the most part
I'd take him over Legs, Wallace or Hubbard. Over any two of those guys. Speaking of Munch, he's outstanding.
