Wallace vs Pouncey. Yeah again

Did they um, take into account how many snaps Pouncey played this season vs Wallace?

That might reduce some of that "elitism". I'm just sayin'. Do we get that money back? Cause I'm good if we do. If Pouncey returns his elite salary while he wears his elite sweatpants and serviceable players go out and play serviceable downs then I'll live with that.

I'm not even arguing that Wallace is a great center. He just actually, you know, plays the position. I'm all for seeing this Pouncey guy. Are we planning on drafting him this year? I hear he has tremendous upside. I guess the knock on him is he's easily injured.

Mods you can move this to coach's thread forgot thats where that discussion was going on.

Wig faulting Pouncey for the injuries he has had is like faulting the passenger in a car accident. Crazy..

You'll never get the people who don't want to spend $$ to see why Pouncey is better than Wallace. If Wallace was so good why wasn't he starting somewhere else?

We got more out of Wallace than Pouncey last year and Wallace sucks. That is the point. Half of Pouncey's career he has been hurt and now he is the highest paid center in the game. We are stuck with Pouncey regardless. Whether he gets hurt again or plays at high level.

Must be pretty damn good if the Steelers still gave him money despite his injuries..

I live in the Miami area. Wallace was badly underthrown and overthrown when he was open for several plays which he would have scored on with better QB play.

Then he became an bad locker room type of player. That's on him.

No one wanted to keep Wallace for the offer Miami gave him. To segway to another point, in free agency, there are plenty of teams that over pay. One of them might like Gay or Foster.

As for Pouncey, he's been hurt a lot and has some minor off the field issues. On the field, his best season was his rookie years. He's a good center when healthy, not in Webster or Dirt's class.

I wish we let him walk. The defense could sure use that cap space.

Yep. Divorce is too costly in this case. If the Steelers cut him, they lose money! As they say its cheaper to keep her at least for now.

Must be because we know they don't EVER make any mistakes on who they extend.

So what was the mistake not having a crystal ball. Its one thing to ***** about injuries but to deny that he is elite is another. And again his injuries are all fluke injuries. To lable him injury prone is crazy. Is Ben injury prone?? Bell?? Just looking at the film and seeing the things he allows this offense to do is worth every penny. I don't fault guys for getting injured playing the most violent sport there is.

Ben played 16 games in 2014 and tied for most passing yards in the league as well as setting other personal season best records. Pouncey played the entire season

Ben did NOT play 16 games last year when Pouncey didn't play a snap. In fact Ben got beat up pretty good with knee, foot and a shoulder injury.

Figure it the **** out already.

Show me the film from last year?

I will pull up a chair, grab some popcorn, settle in for a loooong viewing and watch all the things Pouncey allowed this offense to do last year.

Just for fun, Pouncey entered the league in 2010 and for three years he was pretty solid. Then he was killed by friendly fire. Certainly it wasn't his fault. Nobody can blame him for being brutally taken out by DeCastro in a hit that frankly almost looked like it was on purpose it was so ridiculously bad.

Regardless, that was it for the season and Pouncey was done. However, he did return. And played consistently for another couple years. Playoffs notwithstanding... But then he was hurt again and we saw another entire season go by without the services of the center. If you add up the sum of possible regular season games over his career vs the games he's actually played, you see that Maurkice has scored a solid D. 65%.

And for that he's become the highest paid center EVER! Now, I don't hate the guy. Don't get me wrong here. I want him to succeed as much as anyone. I'm not suggesting Cody Wallace is a pro-bowler. I just get a little weary of people bagging on the guy who actually comes to work and pays the bills while Maurkice convalesces at 65% while making the largest salary EVER for a center. Is he elite. Well his ******* agent is.

the thing is, he already is under contract so what can you do about it? He'll come back and start at C cause he's already being paid as a starter. The other option would be to move him to LG if Foster leaves. But those are the only two options because his contract makes it impossible to cut ties with him so here is hoping that he comes back and stays healthy for whatever's left of his contract

What is your point??? Your bagging on the guy for getting injured. For someone falling on his legs. When he plays he is elite. That's the bottom line. When he has an injury from being a lazy piece of **** let me know. Like I said I will never fault a player giving maximum effort getting injured playing football..

Wig has an absolute vendetta against Pouncey. He's ******* obsessed. Pouncey must have kicked his dog or something.

Not worth arguing with him on this point --- he ain't changing his mind and he can always point to the fact that Pouncey has missed 2 out of the past 3 seasons.

I don't think anybody is saying Wallace is good as Pouncey. What some of us, or at least me, is saying, is I don't think Pouncey is elite, and hasn't been since his rookie year. He's very good when healthy, but NOT worth the cap space tied up in him. And I don't think the drop off (while it does certainly exist) from him to Wallace is nearly as great as many make it out to be.

But see, that's the thing, Antdrew; I am of the opinion that when Pouncey plays, he's "very good", not elite; again, we throw around the word "elite" waaaaay too much nowadays, ....matter of fact, I'm not sure there are all that many "elite" centers in the league right now, as I type this sentence. Is Pouncey better than Wallace? Yes. Does that mean Wallace is crap? No...he's serviceable at best. All those things taken into consideration, Pouncey is not "elite".

What makes him not elite?? Strictly talking about his play.. Because he has a little trouble with bigger guys? No other center can do the things he does.

Wrong Wallace.... Cody Wallace, and yes most passes are way over his head.

Pouncey was drafted in 2010. Since then:

The guy was voted two time 2nd team All-Pro.

The guy was voted two time 1st team All-Pro.

So yeah, I would consider that pretty damn elite.

Fans were all over Shazier for getting injured. They called him china doll among other things.

Pouncey has missed far more time than Shazier. He's also has a much high cap number, which for me is a reason I wish we had not re-signed him and used the money elsewhere.

I don't think Wig or anyone thinks Wallace is the better player at center, but I do think Pouncey was cheaply replaced twice and it did not affect much in terms of wins and losses.

It severely impacted the number of games our franchise QB played in, as well as led to several injuries that may have been avoided had Pouncey been healthy. See 2014 season when he played 16 games.

I don't have a vendetta. I just think it's crappy to constantly bag on Wallace. I get tired of people comparing the guy who can play to the guy who can't. Will Pouncey be the better option when he's healthy? Yes, absolutely. Hey, shy don't we save some cap space and completely remove the safety net and get rid of anyone who can even remotely play center aside from Pouncey. Clearly he won't ever get injured again, isn't at all in any danger of getting injured and it's a travesty that the Steelers even keep a center on the roster while Pouncey draws breath.
