Walking wounded list

Sure, but i hope that with the WR group and the TE group, where we get to see 4 of 10 on the field, that DK and one of Austin/Wilson and two of Smith/Muth/Washington get most of the reps.
I hope more that Ayahuasca A-Ron gets the personnel HE wants on the field as much as possible.

For those clamoring for 3 TEs, 1 WR setups much of the time, that means a lot of Lil Heyward over Austin/Wilson. Why would you want that?

Great post Confluence, appreciate yaz.!!!

I wanted Jr. H. To be jettisoned just to the price of Cam’s outbreak. We have positions that seem more important than a charity relations case. OL comes to mind, as well as the QB “manipulation” of keeping Will & Skylar and not to mention others as well.

Non - the - less, it appears as though Jr. will retain his roster spot due to injury of another player.

Solid post and thank you Confluence

Think so? I read he wasn’t a great blocker?
I stand corrected...

from AI:

In the 2024 season, Pat Freiermuth's run blocking grade (53.2) was higher than Jonnu Smith's (40.5), though both players had low blocking grades and are not considered elite blockers. Freiermuth has shown more consistency with his blocking over his career, while Smith is known for his athleticism and ability to make plays after the catch rather than his blocking.

Pat Freiermuth's Blocking
  • 2024 Grade: 53.2

  • Overall: While Freiermuth has had better seasons as a receiver, his run blocking has been consistently around average for the position, though not elite.

  • Context: He is a more traditional tight end and has shown consistency in his career, despite struggling in some situations.
Jonnu Smith's Blocking
  • 2024 Grade: 40.5

  • Overall: Smith's blocking grade is significantly low, indicating he is not considered an elite blocker.

  • Context: He is known for his athleticism as a "move" tight end who can operate as a slot receiver, excelling in plays after the catch.
Comparison Summary
  • Blocking Skill:
Freiermuth has the better and more consistent blocking track record compared to Smith, though neither is a standout blocker.

  • Role:
Freiermuth is more of a traditional tight end, while Smith is a more versatile "move" tight end whose primary strength is his play after the catch

Me too, Muth is the better blocker of the two. Just my $22.22 and I can give change to those in need.

Obviously, as long as he is healthy. Same goes for Washington, great blocker but has to be available.

I hope I don’t obtain the Jen Swaine syndrome………………

I can see the attractiveness of that.

I think we might have to cool our breaks on Mt. Washington. He has a solid training camp and I think he will definitely show improved. If you told me in the red zone amp up the percentage perhaps. As you like his blocking ability there as well as his height in pass catching.
I am not claiming that Washington is the next Eric Green, but who knows what happens if given the chance. My reasoning on the 3TE set is that it gives you 2 ABOVE average pass catchers and a 3 unknown option. It also gives you 1 TE that can block like an OL, and 2 others that are competent blockers. These players can enhance your running game while not being a detriment to the passing game.

Muth - He is a very well rounded player that doesn’t get enough chances to show his pass catching effectiveness
Smith - I believe he can be a very good blocking asset, but his value comes in the passing game as WR2/TE2. Anybody remember a guy named Shannon Sharpe?
Washington - Massive sized player that allows you to be in a partial jumbo package any time he lines up on the end of the line. Pulling a G to his side of the field allows a serious advantage to running to his side. Occasionally throwing his way will help keep the D honest, if they want to ignore him, then you feed him till the D adjusts
Washington (red zone threat strong blocker)
Austin ( here we go speed racer)
Wilson (also had a good camp)( strong blocker)
Muth( good at plenty)
Jonnu (great route runner)

These 5 snaps should be dependent on defense faced.

I think you want Jonnu and DK on the field to help move the chains and stretch the field. They dictate reps.
Agreed, DK & Smith are really WR1 & WR2
A team with weak outside corners? You rotate in Wilson and Austin. If they are also weak on the inside put in both.
You swap out a TE for another WR to give a breather
A team weak against the run? You put in Washington and Muth. Or Washington and Wilson
In my D they are already on the field with a 3rd TE, this allows a major advantage to run on a weak run D
A team weak inside pass coverage? You put in Muth and Austin.
Weak inside, there are already 3 TE’s to destroy them on the inside. With them concentrating on protecting the middle the outside is going to be singled up and DK can feast.
A great pass rushing team? You put in Washington and your second best blocker if that is Muth or Wilson whatever. This can be your three TE sets…
Again I have 3 TE’s already on the field so not only are you in “jumbo” for the run game, you are also in “max” protect mode at the same time.
Sort of how I am thinking, let me know if yinz see different.
We see things somewhat similarly, we just have a nuanced difference of style.

They won’t be in the 3TE set 100% of the game, as players need a breather now and then. Those other times you could be 2WR & 2TE, possibly a 3WR 1TE or even 5 wide baby. Maybe even see a FB leading the way when the prohibition on that position ends. My position is that the 3TE set should be 60-70% of the time.

I am the guy “clamoring” for 3TE’s, but Heyward is not going to be the primary option over Wilson or Austin. Sure he could see time, but when a TE needs a breather, I would most likely go 3, 4 or even 5WR. Heyward coming in would be more likely as a second RB or a swing back in addition to a WR. If I am going 3TE ( 60-70% of the game) it will be Muth, Smith Washington 95% of the time

That is vindictive as he!!

I am planning going forward with the Howard/Thompson possibly. That doesn’t mean either or both can’t be upgraded also.

Unless Rudy becomes the starter through injury and completely balls out, I don’t see him as a viable future option. He could turn out to be Maddox, or even Graham
