Waaatttt!

One of the most impressive things i saw was he was fooled on a play action boot early but when the Giants tried to run it again he was not fooled again..

Pretty sure Chickillo was injured but unless they keep 5 olb yeah he is out. I think they will though. Always a good special teams body on an OLB.

There are some things that I loved about Watt's technique.

First sack: In the thread, it was stated that this was a coverage sack. It was in a way. The receivers were covered, and the QB chose to leave the pocket by coming up between the LG and LT. It was still a sack 3.5sec after the snap, and Watt got the sack because it didn't let the LT engage. His hands were very active keeping the LT from locking on. He kept his eyes in the backfield (like his brother), and quickly moved left toward the QB by sliding off the block. Watt actually was pushing a little deep from the pocket, but he kept his eyes on the prize and got to cash in with good technique.

2nd sack. Play action. Came in free, and quickly saw the RB did not have the ball. His corrective angle to the QB was as quick, correct, and he didn't lose any speed. He had his hands on the QB at 1.5sec after the snap, and had the QB on the ground in 2 sec. Great quickness, great read, and perfect reaction through execution. The QB never had a chance.

His QB pressure on 3rd down. This was my favorite Watt play of the night. He lined up on the opposite side of the field (Dupree's LOLB spot). He dipped under the RT and was immediately pressuring the QB. He had the QB engaged, and I think he could have gotten an intentional grounding call, but the quickness on the snap and his bend is something we haven't seen on the Steeler D in a long time. Harrison can get in quick, but he's more of a power/swim/punch guy than a low bend/speed guy.

His PD. When the ball was snapped he got in quickly with a clear path to the QB. The QB sees him and immediately releases the ball. Watt looked exactly like his brother, the way he went up 2 handed to bat the pass. This is what JJ does if he can't get to the QB. He gets his mitts up and tries to get a piece of the ball. It takes years to hone this technique, and TJ is coming into the league already doing what his brother does.

it was also mentioned earlier by AJ that he was fooled by the play action boot, but he did immediately learn from that mistake and was all over the second attempt. I know his football IQ has been heralded, but I really didn't understand how smart, and polished he was until I saw his first game in action.

There is one final point I want to make about preseason games. They are usually boring, and we are usually trying to find talent who can make the team. Certain young players will flash in the preseason (Kendrell Bell, Joey Porter, James Harrison, Shazier) to show you what they are capable of. Even if it's against lesser talent, a player has to flash some to show the potential of being a starter or difference maker on the field. Last night I saw Watt, Moates, and Hilton just jumping off the page on D. It was a good first run, and I'd like to see Hilton against first string talent next, but I am happy to get excited about some of this team's potential in the first preseason game of the year.

We only had three healthy OLB dressed which is why Watt and Moats played alot.

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- J.J. Watt found out about his brother T.J. Watt's big game from an unlikely source.

“I came out of my meeting and I actually had a text on my phone … and it said, ‘I see your little bro out there ballin’, hope all is well,’ J.J. Watt said.

“And I looked and it was from Kendrick Lamar.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers rookie outside linebacker had two sacks in his first four defensive plays Friday against the New York Giants. J.J. Watt said after he saw the text, he googled his brother to see what he had done.

“I just thought that was the craziest thing in the world to see one of the best rappers in the world, possibly the best rapper in the world, text me about my little brother,” Watt said. “But it was just so cool. It was such an awesome moment to see [T.J.] go out there and do what he does. He’s a great football player. I’m very excited to watch him play. He’s worked so hard. He’s overcome a lot in his career."

Watt added with a laugh: “Two sacks in four plays made me question myself, because I played four plays the other day. So [I'm] a little disappointed.”

After he saw the play, Watt tweeted about the performance.

Watt said he was a little conflicted about what to tweet because his brother plays for another AFC team.

“Last night when I did start watching the game, I didn’t know how to feel because the Steelers are an AFC team,” Watt said. “I want my brother to do good, but then I’m like, wait a second here. I don’t like how this all works out. So I literally didn’t know what to do. I wanted to tweet ‘Congratulations on a great first game,’ but then at the same time, I’m like, no, you’re on another team. Screw you. I don’t want you to do good.

“It’s such a weird conundrum to be in, but it’s an awesome problem to have to have all three brothers in the AFC, all competing for the title. And somebody will have bragging rights at the end of the year, and hopefully it will be me.”

Could be the LB that woodley was supposed to stay as a after he signed that big deal
Som remeblences to other players
size Clark haggans
Motor Rob Nikonvich
Intagables When Woodley was smart and in shape, ability to blow up plays in the back field, relentless motor, high IQ, and is being trained by an ALL Decade OLB in Deebo.

Though I pretty much agree with this, how drunk/high were you when you typed this, on a scale from one to ten?

I think Wood was bigger and until Watt proves otherwise a better pass rusher.

I think Watt will get effort sacks which will perhaps even the playing field.

I also think he ill be a better run defender, and easily drop into coverage with better results.

I think Mathews from Green Bay might be the better compare.

56 did not dress.

They apparently are saving him for the regular season. Like they have been with Harrison. I haven't seen any practices but. ...oh wait... Never mind.

I live in Wisconsin and watched the draft with mostly Packer/Badger fans. I love rubbing this in their face as they traded out of the spot ahead of the Steelers and left Watt sitting there for us.
