Steelers Blow Game Against Patriots Thanks To Moronic Play By Ben Roethlisberger
Just what the hell was Ben Roethlisberger thinking?
With time running down late in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ contest with the New England Patriots on Sunday, the Steelers had third and goal with time running out Roethlisberger made one of the most bone-headed plays I’ve ever seen.
The Steelers were trailing the Pats 27-24 and had the ball on the seven yard-line with the clock running. Rather than spike the ball, bring out the kicker for a chip shot and head to overtime, Roethlisberger decided to go for the old “fake spike” play and tried to win the game.
As he dropped back, Eli Rogers was the only receiver in the pattern, and he ran a slant instead of a fade. There’s no way of knowing if he was supposed to do that, but as soon as it happened, Roethlisberger should have just thrown the ball away and played for overtime. Instead, he tried to force the ball to a covered receiver in a crowded area.
Yep, a game-sealing interception on a thrown that never should have been made.
That’s just a bone-headed play. You have to throw that ball away. There’s no excuse for that and it may have cost the Steelers home field advantage in the postseason.

At least in corrupt sports like boxing if you just knock the guy out you win and not let it go to the judges. For the NFL it would be like the judges calling a low blow deducting a point for a head shot.
I knew I was right about them. I've known it for a long time,yet I still watched. Much like people watch studio wrestling knowing it's all fake. Pretty sad.

PS Nothing new here as this has been going on for quite some time. The fix is in and the cheaters are the benefactors.
I have no problem with the coaches and Ben going for the win there at the end. There was obvious PI on the play otherwise it was a TD and we win again.
On the James catch, if that is how they want to interpret the rule, they need to change it again. The dude had a foot, and a knee down with complete possession. He then made a football move to dive over the goal line. It makes no sense to say that the ball moving once he finally did hit the ground makes it an incomplete pass. The league has been so inconsistent with every rule all year long. In addition, his right hand never comes off the ball. He therefore, never loses control. The ball is allowed to touch the ground as long as the receiver still has possession. So, why doesn't that apply here also?
And, then there was the poor officiating. The Cheats had 2 penalties for 4 ******* yards the entire game. Are you ******* kidding me? Let's just look at their final drive for a second. There was an obvious block in the back on the return that would have pinned them deep. No call. Even Romo called that and was shocked. How about the obvious hold on the pass to Gronk down the middle? Marsha was going to get popped on the play and our guy was tackled. Again, no call. Then, the dude grabbed Rogers going across the middle. No call. It was either a hold or PI but again, no call.
Everything was handed to the Cheatriots to win. Sure, we could have made a few more plays. But we had that win taken from us. If we somehow get AB back and have Haden back, I think we beat these punks in the playoffs. Our O play calling was actually pretty good most of the game. Our man to man D was also good other than covering Gronk. We need a bigger body on him. I figured out how that slow **** gets open so much, he grabs his man and pushes him coming off the line on every play. You are allowed to within 5 yards of the line but NOT grab the other player and throw him out of the way. That is holding. He is never called. So, we need to put a bigger body on him coming off the line. I wouldn't mind seeing Watt take Gronk coming off the line (hitting him the entire time) and then letting the smaller and faster Davis take it from there. Gronk won't be able to throw a LB out of the way like he does to a small safety.
Enough rambling I guess. But if we can somehow get AB back (very much a long shot) and Haden and not lose anyone else between now and then, we can and WILL beat these ******* no matter where we play them.

Now, now, you can't defend Ben with that crap, since the refs didn't call the PI it didn't happen and had nothing to do with the play, so the Ben bashers say.

Ben also didn't make the call. The coaches did.
I'm on Ben's side but just cause he didn't call the play doesn't mean he couldn't have just thrown the ball out of the endzone.
Eli was clearly grabbed and pushed by Rowe which is allowed him to tip the pass up.
Bottom line, officiating was absolutely atrocious.
Agreed, but it looked like Ben was already throwing to Eli before the DB pulled and turned him away from the ball, that's why that missed call was so horrible, the DB used Eli to pull himself into position to tip the ball

Roethlisberger played a nearly flawless game Sunday, completing 22 of 30 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran three times for 10 yards, helping to convert 10 of 16 third downs. But it was his final pass, a ball he forced to Eli Rogers, that was his lone true mistake in the game. And it was a big one.
Roethlisberger gave a convoluted explanation for what transpired after the game, first saying he wanted to spike the ball to stop the clock and run another play but that he was told by the coaching staff to run a fake spike. Had Roethlisberger spiked the ball, it would have been fourth down and the Steelers would have had to attempt a tying field goal. Then, Roethlisberger said the play wasn’t a fake spike, when he clearly faked the spike.
He did also take the blame for not throwing the ball away. But running a play in that situation was the right call.
As for those who think the Steelers should have called two plays while Jesse James’ touchdown was being reviewed and then overturned, that’s really tough to do in that situation.
Todd Haley has no idea what is going to transpire on second down from the 10. It’s not like calling a play from midfield. If, for example, the Steelers gained 9 yards on the play, you’re not going to call a play you had called from the 10. The same holds true if Roethlisberger gets sacked and you’re facing third-and-17.
As it was, Roethlisberger threw a check-down pass to Darrius Heyward-Bey on a crossing route — no, he was not the first, second or third option — because the Patriots understandably dropped their coverage into the end zone. And Heyward-Bey didn’t get out of bounds.
Then, this transpired:
The Patriots had seen Roethlisberger do that before, most notably with Brown against the Cowboys last season, but Roethlisberger didn’t have Brown available this time.
Rogers did what he was supposed to do, which was run a slant. He’s typically the slot receiver. They’re not going to ask him to run a fade, which would have been Brown’s play in that situation.
The argument that everyone else stood still and therefore didn’t know what was going on doesn’t hold water. Watch how it happened against the Cowboys last season, thanks to WDVE’s Bill Crawford:
On the play against Dallas, everyone sells the spike by just standing up, except Brown, who takes off down the field. It looks just like the play against the Patriots.

Ben yelled clock it, everyone on our O is ready for the clock it play, then Haley calls in to run a play, there's no time to huddle, just hand signal a wr to run a route. Yeah after the play is over it's easy to say throw it away, but Eli broke open, Ben throws to him and then Eli is grabbed, turned, and the db uses Eli to pull himself into position to get to the ball, but hey why let that part into the conversation, that takes away from the "blame Ben" crowd.
