They have no clue how to use him. You have a running game. Spread them out and go vertical with your receivers. He should be throwing 7 or 8 deep balls per game and running at least 5 or 6. The play calling is brutal. It took Roethlisberger on the sideline to figure out what would work.

I have to hand it to him for not letting his confidence be destroyed after a rough start. He hung in there and made huge plays when he needed to. He was terrible through a lot of the game but I have to give credit for that.

I got to be honest I was looking for the hook midway through the third. I just couldn't stomach another defensive gem wasted.

I'm really starting to think Todd Haley's becoming a liability to this team, people give him props when we win big and actually call good plays, but then I'm hearing in pre-game that there's times where Ben says he audibles and calls 80% of all the plays in game himself... I'm starting to wonder about the guy.

Me too, then my son quickly reminded me that I was pissed that Jones couldnt move the ball either.

Haha. My boy said almost the exact same thing. He was like dad in Pre season you said watching Landry Jones sucked the soul out of you. Give Vick a chance.

The Dolts had zero respect for Vick, and he made them pay for that. What an emotional high. My alarm goes off in 5 hours

I'm just happy he didn't fumble. That was my biggest fear and for two weeks now, he's overcome it. But damn is his medium range accuracy is terrible. And he's so damn late in throwing the ball to the sidelines. He's lucky the Bolts defenders couldn't catch.

I hate vick but pulling him with the game on the line would have been dumb. You cant put in a cold 3rd string qb who probably got 0 reps with the first team in that situation. Maybe early to mid 3rd i would not have minded landry coming in. Overall our record is where it should be. We blew the balt game and stole this one.

Like I said since he got here, he doesn't fit the short quick pass offense... he needs a Bryant type wideout... that wheaton play was right up his alley... wait for teams to sell out to stop his legs and bomb it for the wr to run it down or jumpball it down the field... what we should do is steal the ravens Flacco playbook till ben gets back

I am thinking Ben making play adjustments is more on how he sees their D aligning and less on what Haley is calling... every great QB can make adjustments at the line.

As far as Vick, he was one run and a few passes away from being the top 5 worst QB performance I have ever seen.

He is what I thought he was a washed up QB who can throw the ball down the field, and run. Almost three INTs, against a better D, I am not sure the Steelers would have won.

If he plays like he did Monday night, against Arizona.

not good things

But let me give the devil his due.

He dogged it most of the game, but he came thru at the end.

props to him he played as hard as he was capable of

He made the plays to help win at the end. I was damn near sure this was a loss. I was happy to see i was wrong.

Yep, as awful as Vick was, he looked like a different quarterback on the last drive of the game. They need to adjust so he can make more plays throughout the entire game, not just near the end.

You may be correct but if SD was half way good they had three picks in Vick two returned for TDs. He was terrible. Sorry. The entire night the entire def was in the box. Change the play.

Vick is a major concern regardless of how they use him. Take away his 3 long completions and he was like 10/23 for 66 yards. That's a lot of punting. Not to mention the throws that should have been picked off.

Vick wasn't good last night, but he was good when it mattered. He didn't fumble. And discounting the end of half INT (which could have happened to ANY QB), he had divine luck on his side and somehow didn't throw an INT. Hopefully this was the confidence boost he (and the rest of the offense) needed. Play him against AZ and save Ben for KC.

I think if Ben can play, you play him. Playing Vick is accepting a likely loss but hoping to get lucky again.

Overall, Vick played as well as could be expected. A few bad throws. Haley was the reason we couldn't move the ball. I said this when Ben went down. These few weeks will show how good or not Haley is. So far, Haley has shown once again that he sucks as an O coordinator and Ben is the only reason he still has a job on this team.

Why risk ******* up the knee even more?

I think this was another case of playing down to a lesser opponent's level. I hate when the team does that. Damn lucky to get the W.

No. If by "a few" you mean about 8 or 10, then yes, he had a few bad throws. Haley made none of them.

I think this board is a couple of dropped interceptions away from being one huge "Vick Sucks!" Fest this morning.

other than a few passes, Vick sucked ***. His TD pass to Wheaton was under thrown but he was so wide open, it didn't hurt.

His pass on the last drive on 3rd down to Heyward-Bay really left him open for a big hit,....

Who says that risk exists, especially when he's wearing a brace? Is it anymore of a risk than injuring the other knee, a shoulder or his head when he returns?

The Steelers have two losses with games against Cincinnati (2), Seattle, Denver, Arizona and I hate to say it, Oakland, remaining.

Every time Vick starts, I think the Steelers are risking their season.

Vick definitely had 3 bad passes that could have been INT's. He was continually put in bad situations all night by Haley. Haley never let him settle into the game from the beginning. Haley didn't let him throw down field early. Haley didn't let him run a few times early. Etc. Etc. Etc. Sure, Vick is not Ben and no one thinks he is. But, he can do more than Haley was willing to let him try. The play calling was HORRIBLE. I've said it in other threads countless times. We telegraphed EVERYTHING. 1 WR on the field means we are running. On 3rd and long, it means we are passing. San Diego blitzed both scenarios. That is not Vick's fault, That is Haley fault for putting our backup QB in those types of situations. There is no reason we shouldn't have had Vick run the ball, roll out and have 2 to 3 WR's on the field for 1st downs just like when Ben is on the field. Stupid, stupid game plan and play calling.

With that said, I will take the win that Vick led us to. He finally was able to throw long and it resulted in a TD. He finally said **** it and took off running on the final drive and put us in easy FG range and then completed a great pass to Heath to put as at the 1 foot line. He is our back up QB and won the game for us. Landry Jones would not have.
