By Matt Papiernik, @Matt_Papiernik on Twitter SteelerNation.com The Pittsburgh Steelers have a decision to make, as tight end Vance McDonald is scheduled to make up to $6.4 million during the 2020 season if they decide to pick up his option (which they have to decide upon by March 18th). One of many people who do […]

ok the line up for FA replacements all short term 1 year plug ins who all these will only be in pure passing sets, aside from 1 or 2
Delaine Walker
Jordan Reed
Mercedes Lewis
Vannett resign and draft notre dame TE or Moss J?R on day 3 unless he moves up to a rnd 4 projection as right now he is a day 3 according to many websites so needs a good combine and pro day. then you make sure Gentry reports in at 260 and bring Vannett back on a 2 yr 2.5 mill deal. and thwen the lost spot is up for grabs

there are 2 guys we can trade for Jake Butt with Denver drafting Fant they don't need him or barley use him send a 5th or future picks forOJ as he is alll around TE

Without a restructure there is less than 25% chance he is back. Just my opinion

Salute the nation

I say keep him and try to restructure. I don't like any of the FAs and rookie TEs never succeed. He only missed 3 games in the last two seasons and we need to keep some continuity for Ben's last couple go-rounds.

The Steelers don't have a replacement for MCDonald currently on the roster so I don't see this happening, that would leave a void on the roster. Could they draft a replacement or sign a replacement FA? Maybe, but there's no guarantee the Steelers will get one.

A restructure on several guys is needed. They're really close. The defense is championship level. The offense needs to bring it up two notches.

It all hinges on BB getting his arm back up to par and doing a **** ton of work to get a year of rust off.

Missed 3 games in 2 years. Show me a current FA with a better mark and similar skillset.

How many times did he go to the locker room and not return in addition to missing those games? He's a humpty dumpty, time to move on.

Not sure, I only track the game that our players are active and play in. A lot of current FA TEs have terrible game played numbers. At least the ones in our price range.

I fully expect McDonald to sign a 2yr deal.

6 million puts him in the middle of the pack pay wise when it comes to TE's, he'll produce alot more if Ben is back.

I expect McDonald to be back. I wouldn't be shocked if it's at a renegotiated rate. He'll be just fine. I personally feel Vannett may be more of the Heath Miller/Jesse James TE he likes to throw to and could be a good option along side McDonald.

McDonald >>> any available FA. Dude is a very good blocker, a threat in the passing game, a weapon in the red zone. Right now, the Steelers just cannot give up any more weapons on offense.

Well, unless the CBA is approved, it will be awfully difficult to FT Bud Dupree if McDonald isn't cut.
Cutting Chick, Barron and Foster won't be enough.
Not to mention guys you want to tender...oh, and paying for your draft picks and in-season money.

I am all for keeping McDonald...I just don't see how we can with the cap situation we are in.

It is called extend him and or others. The Steelers will keep the starters they want. They have and will continue to. This team is one at the best at working the cap have some faith.

He'll definitely have to restructure but it's not impossible to get done.

restructure as this is a poor draft for all around te you can find a te in the draft to replace streaching the field up the seam and a security blanket, butaside from the notre dame te all the others wouldd struggle run blocking in singleback sets twin te where they are expexted to clear a path. only reason why i would restructure vance and if vannet is going to cost to much sign Eifert on a 1 yr deal and draft eithier the notre dame or miz te as your long term and with Gentry expexted to beef up by 20-30 LBS you have good competition for PT.

If he is so great why wouldn't he go to another team with more cap room and rake in the cash?
